So far after studying a few videos, past 3 days of practice and now can incorporate this primitive instrument in pop and rock. Before I had no idea. I took my djambe to my local jam night pub and the concepts i learned from the videos has seriously worked. Before I was playing with bongos but feel djambe is a much more powerful drum for keeping up with a amplified band.
I'm a beginner with the djembe, but your videos and beats are very motivating for me. I also like your sound of the modern playing beats, although I`m learning till now the traditional african rythem and beats. I'm going on follow you here at your channel!
Following your videos quite a bit recently, and while its true you are a skilled player I have issues with your use of mic, I feel it makes it so much easier to present these beats. As an acoustic player playing your beats I find they don't carry the same feel as presented in your videos and would like to request some acoustic recordings with out the over head mic and on a traditional djembe to hear these beats in the natural djembe sound. My personal opinion above aside.. thanks for your contribution to djembe learning.. I do appreciate the alternate approach to bring further dynamics to a traditional instrument, some of the videos gave some nice inspiration which has some of our local players asking how I play what I pick up from here. I send them your links.
Thanks for your feedback! I kinda miss also playing a traditional djembe for a change. About mics - I actually haven’t used an overhead mic for about 8 months on my videos. I find my video sound is somewhat dry, to be honest - don’t use many plug-ins, only EQ and slight Compression with a hint of Reverb. Final output is obviously maximized with a Limiter. Anyway, I’d be happy to play some videos with a traditional djembe, using zero Reverb. Cheers for sending local players links 🙂
