Want fast results with the djembe or any other instrument? Practice as much as possible. If possible practice often in smaller time sequences, rather than for hours and less frequently. Don't try to learn to many things at one time, stick with few new phrases or rhythms, learn them well, only then move to new things. Practice with metronome, start slowly, increase speed gradualy. Follow the golden rule "can't sing it, can't play it": learn to internalize what you are learning and playing, rhythm and music does not start in our hands, it comes from our mind's. Be patient.
Thanks for making these videos, getting my first drum tomorrow. Been doing steering wheel solos for 20 years and played a traditional drum kit for a while in my 20s. That solo bit at the end was enlightening!
On the idea of slow playing. It would be useful to have videos of only slow play of two or three of the beats with very little talking. It would be great if you did this for all the beats. We would be able to follow you like drum circle. I am new and was doing straight beat, but got lost when you sped up. I kept having to rewind.
