Patrick for taking me back, to Whitby a majestic holiday I liked it a resort much history and great fish and chips too.Ann Deakin 2021 springtime good fewer crouch’s then Abbey a greater feeling of majestic air in the Church great!
I've never been to Whitby before, Patrick, so this video has given me a good insight as to what the lie of the land is like around the town. The harbour looks spectacular, and where it goes out towards the sea are those most brilliant lighthouses. The Abbey and the church on the hillside look amazing, and the town itself has some good looking old buildings. Robin Hood's Bay seems quite a pleasant little village, too. Most enjoyable to watch Patrick, thank you.
Whitby is a favourite for many people and I love the place. Definitely worth a visit if you get the chance, as is Robin Hoods Bay. Thanks again Ffranc for watching and commenting 👍
Whitby a great seaside resort narrow lanes and the fish and chip shops nice meal to be had.Spent days on. Holiday in the 196/7/8s .The Abbey a great religious place to spend time in the pews nice p,ace.Robin HUD’s Bay a nice seaside stop over too.Great show nice trip at nighttime too .
Very nice to see Whitby I was there about 10 years wanted to do the Heartbeat thing and it rained the whole day but I still enjoyed what I saw , I did the walk up to the abbey lot of wind and rain so seeing your video was a treat.
Whitby.a loverly place.to stay had a great holiday in the 1960/7/8/s loved these holidays in this great seaside flow. Loved the Abbey ruins a spiritual place church nice church too.
Spent four days in August last year staying in Scarborough North Bay and visited Whitby one day.. What a beautiful place.. The Fish and Chips were amazing and I lost count as I walked the steps up to the Abbey lol
Love this, Patrick ! Well produced. As a Yorkshireman living abroad at present, watching this was a pleasant way of spending the latter part of the evening. Thanks !
great vid of Whitby..somewhere I have never been but we have planned to visit this year on the bikes with a few friends.after watching this am now looking more forward to visiting.
we have been saying for last couple of years that we would visit, myself and a couple of friends are keen motorcyclists and its a place that they have visited some years back, but its a place I have yet to get to.....if the weather is as good this year as it was last it would make a for a great days ride out and maybe stay over....loved the vid again, cheers wayne @@solitaryrambler
Lovely Whitby. Me and my fiancée first visited in 2015, I think it was, with my stepdaughter and we fell in love with the place. We haven't been for a few years, but we'd love to return one day.
It's funny, since I last commented, we visited this summer with my stepdaughter and two boys. We have another trip planned in two weeks when me and my boys are off school/work as part of our trip to York. Can't wait!
Really enjoyed looking at Whitby , with you Patrick , you always seem to get the good weather , this is another place that were planning on visiting soon , Thank you for sharing yet another ramble with us ... you certainly like your scampi mate ... take care , best wishes from Frank - Lee .....
Ha ha well people kept saying to me "when you go to Whitby you must have the fish and chips from Magpie cafe, etc" and normally I wouldn't eat fish/scampi in a pub or restaurant, but I took the advice I was given and certainly the scampi was pretty yummy!! You'll love Whitby Frank and Lee, Robin Hoods Bay too if you get the chance. Cheers, Patrick :-)
I think Robin Hood's Bay is far prettier than Whitby. It's so cute and has so many nooks and alleys. I had a lovely holiday in Staithes as a Kid too. Playing in the rockpools and ice cream everyday :)
Fantastic video Patrick who needs holidays abroad when we have so many lovely places to visit in north yorkshire and the rest of england, scotland ect.I love Whitby, i must go there at least 25 times a year.Ive always said i will live there when i retire, hope it comes true
I visited Whitby in August 2016! And i went back again last April 2018 though the weather wasn't as nice as my first visit, but even Whitby looks good in the pouring rain😃! I hear that's nice robin hoods bay! I thought that was in Sherwood forest 😂🙉🙈🙊! Lol
What a beautiful film and accompanying music Patrick, loved the night shots at the end,you have had so many amazing days out,I am so pleased for you,and so grateful that you have shared them,I love the quirky little traits in your films like when you show the busy street after your first scampi comment, and all the people walk past, and then you walk past totally oblivious to the camera like you are just another passer by,those moments always make me smile. I don't know exactly what job you do for the council but I can tell you that your real talent lies in film making and presenting, this was another wonderful film. I love Whitby and so it was great to see you there, and again I learned so much more and I thought I knew quite a lot about the place beforehand, one of my favourite things there was the Grand Turk, the big Man O' War ship, but I see that by the time you had filmed it had already been sold and moved to France,I visited this summer and am delighted that in its place they have a permanent full size replica of Captain Cooks Endeavour with a cafe below decks and it's amazing. Thanks for another great film. Pete.
Thanks Pete, I wanted to get some night shots in for a change. You might be surprised to learn I do actually get embarrassed when there are a lot of people around whilst I am filming. If I feel I'm being watched whilst I'm speaking to the camera I freeze up, so there are many outtakes of a shot that viewers never see! :) I'm always a bit careful now what I say as well bearing in mind I am sharing my films with the public. Another lovely one to shoot anyway. Thanks again for watching :)
I know both well as I grew up 35 miles away and my dad had a small yacht in Whitby (and later one in Runswick Bay) so we visited often. My son went to Fyling Hall School in Robin Hood's Bay when I lived in Saltburn-by-the-Sea 20 miles up the coast. It is certainly a nice place to live or visit, but it can be cold and wet.
Whitby a nice holiday place-to visit great sea views remember trips when younger with parents then friends .Agree the fish and chips great .love the Abbey able to go to a services at the Church in. The town atmosphere spiritual.Liked shops and cobble streets maybe tarmac per now?
I generally visit the East Coast 4 times a year basing myself in Scarborough. I have in the last couple of years also included Whitby. What a beutiful place! The video does it greay justice. May i suggest the Black Horse pub (i think it's literally opposite where you had your scampi and chips) Fabulously welcoming pub, good beer and great people! Thanks for the video it has generally perked me up in these restricive times. Your account of Scarborough is gem too. I'm guessing the caravan site is just off the A64 taking a left at the roundabout on the Seamer Road about two miles out of the town centre 👍👍
Absolutely loved your walk . It’s a placeyou just have to go back to. Hope to next year.Patrick. I visited it last month and definitely want to go back to see The Cook connections. I took a tour bus up to the Abbey stopped at the arch and by the pier. There is an excellent museum there too. Pleased the piers are listed. They deserve to be.
I've not been back to Whitby since I filmed this in 2015, but hope to one day as it's lovely as you know. Thanks for giving this a watch and for your comments 👍
Another fabulous video, thanks for a brilliant informative video. I am very fortunate to live only a short drive from Whitby; its a great place although it does get ridiculously busy in the summer, so I prefer to visit on sunny winter days. Robin Hoods bay is another favourite of mine, so pretty. Not as nice as Runswick bay, but lovely none the less.
Thanks again. I was staying in Whitby for a few days back in 2015 from where I made this, as well as the Scarborough video and a couple of others further away from the coast in the North York Moors. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and for commenting. Cheers, Patrick :)
I'm really enjoying working my way through the backlog of your videos. I was enthralled to learn about the possibility of subterranean passages in the area. The fact that you do your own soundtrack is a great idea too. I am a guitar player that is struggling to begin learning the keyboard at the age of 50! atb snack.
Thanks for giving them a watch Snack! For me creating the soundtrack is the best part of making these films. Hope you enjoy learning the keyboard, I can recommend it very much of course! :-)
You sir, are leading a blessed life to be able to visit all the places in your videos. I live in Virginia and I've been thinking about going to Yorkshire for over 10 years. My dream trip would be to York, Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay, Thirsk, and any place Herriot related. I've been to London twice but I would love to see the North, thanks in part to watching All Creatures and to a lesser extent Last of the Summer Wine. Great videos and very informative!
Thanks for the nice comments Andy. I've been lucky over the past 3 years or so, to be able to spend my time making these films, so I've definitely been making the most of it. Thanks again. Cheers, Patrick :-)
Well, I visited Yorkshire for almost two weeks back in June. I went to York, Thirsk, Staithes, Robin Hood's Bay, Scarborough, Whtiby, and took a mini-bus tour of the Dales. I loved every minute of it. Whitby was my favorite and the food was great. It was a dream come true to see it all and I love Yorkshire a lot more than London.
I've always liked Whitby but never stayed there for a holiday. When I was a kid I stayed a lot in Scarborough and often went for walks on the old railway line, and sometimes we drove to Ravenscar and walked on the railway line to a pub called the Hayburn Wyke, or walk in the other direction towards Whitby, have you done these walks before. A walk I wasn't keen on was the Cleveland way because my fear of heights.
Love Whitby have been there twice your video was very good with lots of facts i didn't know loved Robin hoods bay would have gone there if I had known about it. O I too love scampi must have Tartar sauce :)

Hi Patrick, what a great video, and your music is a perfect accompaniment. You take me back to long summer holidays in the 30s and 40s, we stayed with relatives near Saltburn but spent happy days in Whitby, Robin's Hood Bay, Saltburn, Staithes etc. In fact, I hadbeen listening to my great-great-aunt, Tamar Fletcher, with her wonderful Yorkshire accent (ruclips.net/video/0Wq0pvMpi7w/видео.html), then RUclips took me onto your Whitby video.
