The stuff was worked at Acre Mill by Cape between 1939 and about 1970 and people were still suffering from it for decades afterwards. A nice place now, but with a sad past. I'd only ever passed through Hebden Bridge on the train before, Patrick, and never thought anything about the place. But, looking at your video here, the town has a great deal to offer for tourism. Many of the buildings in the town seem to reflect the town's past with its industries - quite an affluent place. A good place where it's located is ideal for people who want to do some rambles on the South Pennines. I'd certainly give it a thumbs up for the spectacular scenery within and surrounding the town. Many thanks for showing us the town and the local area on this film, Patrick. Good health.
Thanks Ffranc. I've not been back to Hebden Bridge since filming this, but when I get the chance I will as I remember it was a great place with good walks all around. Thanks for watching as always 👍
Nice to visit this film again Patrick , we watched last year before spending a bit of time there , l ast summer we spent a couple days there , it really is a lovely place ,and like the film we found it to be a very busy plce too , especially near to the white swan , close to the bridge , for us though the highlight was a trip up to heptonstall mate , visiting the museum , which as you may know was based inside the old school , there are so many momento,s from the towns past in there , i found the churchs just wonderous to walk around and photograph ... its such a peaceful place too ..we went up there on a sunday ,and i think we only saw five or six people in all the time we were there ...We had lunch at the small cafe , opposite the post office and very nice it was too ....Thank you so much again Patrick for reminding us just what a lovely part of the country this is .....Regards Frank And Lee .....
Hadn't realised you'd watched this before so thanks for re-watching! Another great place. It was quiet when I arrived but by the end of that day is was busy, especially by the White Swan and bridge like you mention. I thought Heptonstall was amazing, lovely little village on the hilltop. I'd like to go back sometime and spend more time there. Thanks again Frank and Lee. Cheers, Patrick :-)
Love this channel. Such a nice chap, always great to hear his thoughts, lovely music and editing and totally relaxing to have on in the background when working. Hoping for more once lockdown is over. 🙂
We love hebden Bridge, we are keen walkers have been visiting sometimes having holidays there also Heptonstall and old town staying at the hare and hounds pub b&b which was mention in the video. You don't have to be a walker / hiker to visit we would often take my late mum and mother in law they too loved the area. Who wouldn't the fresh clean air is just amazing we now take our Grandchildren on visits they love the park and enjoy feeding the ducks on the river. Cheers
I was born in Hebden Bridge 75years ago, I lived in both Hebden Bridge and Heptonstall. Things have moved on but is still truly God's own country . Memories.
I was born there in 1948 and lived there till I was 18. I have never missed the place actually, even after visiting my parents up until the early 80's, or just on a day out, but it is wonderful to see a video about it.
i visited this beautiful place in 2016. went trail running and hiking around here. i am from malaysia and this video make me feel so good bringing back memories. will revisit there if i have the chance again. thank you for the video.
Brilliant video Patrick. I walk from Rochdale to Hebden Bridge once, sometimes twice a week and know every blade of grass along the canal towpath. So good to see the countryside in your video along the Calder valley. Heptonstall and Hardcastle Crags are also wonderful places to visit and walk through. Cheers.
Many thanks for your kind words and for watching Barry! 🙂 Yes it was lovely spending the day in this area back in 2015 to shoot this film. Thanks again 👍
it's rare to come upon something which rivets the attention and has you concluding 'wish I had built that' ... perhaps because the little structure is imperfect in almost every way, yet still functions well.
Proud Yorkshire man , stuck in Covid lock-down in Manila. Know many places in Yorkshire but sadly have never visited Hebden Bridge. Looks great and as soon as I can get on a flight , I'm having 6 weeks in Yorkshire Dales and after this video, will add a week or two to stay in Hebden Bridge. Looks a delightful sort of place. Excellent and informative video. Thanks Solitary Rambler.
Many thanks for your kind comments and for taking the time to watch. I hope you do get to Hebden Bridge when you travel to Yorkshire. Thanks again and all the best. Cheers, Patrick 😀
What a charming place, Heptonstall too. Definitely putting those on my list of places to visit. You make an excellent point about foreign holidays; a lot of peoples idea of a holiday is a hotel in Spain where they sit around a pool for a week or a fortnight and see nothing. They are truly missing out and if it wasn't for the fact that our weather lets us down so much I would never go abroad as there is such a huge amount to see in the UK and boy are we blessed as this video clearly emphasises. Thanks Patrick I thoroughly enjoyed it. What a treat it was.
I think when we get good weather you can't beat it, so yes I still stick with my feelings on holidays abroad. Pleased you enjoyed this Eric, many thanks for watching :)

Yet another glorious video of one of my favourite places Patrick. There really is so much to see and do in and around Hebden Bridge and the Calder Valley. And as you might of seen on Facebook recently the walk from Hebden Bridge to Stoodley Pike and Gaddings Dam is a long but very enjoyable one. Thanks again for bringing back more great memories from one of my favourite places.👍😊
Cheers Ian, yes I love Hebden Bridge and the Calder Valley, don't go as often as I would like as it's that little bit further away, but would like to return at some point. I did see your photos on Facebook, some great shots there from what I recall. Thanks again Ian for taking the time to watch. Cheers, Patrick :)

I do put a lot of work into each film indeed Pete, but I hope the results are worth it. This is a lovely part of Yorkshire I'm less familiar, but a lovely place to visit and film. Thanks again. Cheers, Patrick :)
Lovely video! I love Hebden Bridge in all its quirkiness. Had the pleasure of playing at a couple open mics there, too. I love the alternative shops and the unique cafes. Heptonstall is wonderful, too, and I remember the graveyard being one of the most evocative places I'd ever been, especially on the grey and misty day I'd visited.
Really enjoyed learning so much from this video Patrick. I had too had only visited once, while walking the PW. It was atrocious weather slogging down from Stoodley Pike into town and up again to Heptonstall. Now I have a much better understanding of what I actually saw and understand the history of the area. I have to agree with you, Britain has such amazing places to explore. It's great that you can make your own soundtrack as it really sets the mood for the walk. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Patrick, I hope you're well. On Monday I had to leave Wales for a couple of days for a meeting with the publishers (fotoVUE) of my soon to be released book 'Photographing the Snowdonia Mountains'. They're based in Hebden Bridge so that's where I went, staying in a house just below Badger Lane near Blackshaw Head with tremendous views across the valley to Stoodley Pike! I had the opportunity for a couple of walks while I was there and moorland scenery is stunning. I was really struck by how beautiful the town is and how the atmosphere of the place is one of creativity and simple but good living. It occured to me this evening that perhaps "Patrick has been there" and you have! Thanks for taking me back to such a wonderful place.
Morning Nick, yes indeed I visited the lovely Hebden Bridge three years ago so nice that you enjoyed your stay in the area. Glad you did some walks there, as you say the scenery is stunning. I must have walked pretty close to where you were staying then! One day I'd like to walk up to Stoodley Pike itself, so that's on my to-do list. Thanks as always for watching. Cheers, Patrick :)
