    Dear Mr. Fujita
    This is the one, guitar wisdom here I come.
    65 years old, been playing the guitar almost every day for 50 years, not gifted, not talented, never be great but it’s a big part of my life. I learnt from chord windows, then tab, both really useful in the beginning but they box you in on the sly.
    I once played a piece, as best I could, to a professional musician, (who you know) he said “that’s great, now play it another way” I couldn’t because I didn’t understand what I was playing. This completely brought home the failings of tab and made me realise the need for a bit of theory to help me work out what chords I was playing. Hopefully I would then be able to identify chords and scales in different places on the fretboard. Work in progress, I can often find the chord but struggle to give it a name.
    Your RUclips videos, particularly the triad ones, have been inspirational but this one has made me decide to take the plunge and give up a lunch a month. Maybe I will become a better player and slimmer too! Both would be helpful.
    If only I had your advice 40 years ago, don’t compare, don’t expect too much too soon, be kind to yourself. But, it’s never too late to learn so
    huge thanks for making your expert tuition and great philosophy available to everyone, especially me.
    Looking forward to the journey.

      Thank you so much for your kind words! You made my day!! I love sharing teaching fun journey of guitar playing. My Guitar Wisdom is simply my passion where I want to give it back to others. Myself, I wasn't talented or gifted! I had a worst time feel and no sense of pitches but I thank to all my teachers who believed in me and I just kept working on guitar playing without expectation. I did not believe any fast magic! I believed what takes to accomplish something great. We equally have 24 hours a day. But we feel different way, we use it different way... but I believe we all have this chance equally!

    I stopped looking at tabs many years ago. I am self taught and when I was young and discovered tabs I was able to learn and play some song that i like. But I agree you don't really learn theory and application. You get kind of boxed in and limited. It really pays to have a strong foundation and patience when familiarizing yourself with the chords. Right now Im getting back at playing guitar and strenghtening my basics. I play now with more feeling and can jam unlike before I just look at tabs haha .

    • @tomleaverland2458
      @tomleaverland2458 3 года назад +3

      I think the opening chord of St. Patrick's Day is actually an Emaj9 because that F# is so prominent. But yeah I also get this phenomenon, it's like the absolute worst form of perfect pitch because I can identify the chord only if it's voiced identical to another song where it's featured prominently, e.g. the opening chord of St. Patrick's Day.

    I’m not sure what kinda of lighting setup you have, but there’s a couple things you can try. One moving the light to be above the height of your head or off to the side could help. As long as you have a bright room and you don’t turn to face the light. Another option that tends to work well if your closer to a wall is turning the light source to the wall so it bounces off the wall. That should soften the lighting and help you avoid the glare on your glasses.

    This lesson is so much information, especially the F#7(13)/E and G#7(b13). I have to learn about them, where they come from, how to use them...
    Thank you sensei for this lesson.

    That’s such a classic walk up from the F#-7! Great for any musician to have that in their bag of tricks! Edit: that double dot on the ninth fret had me confused for a second at the beginning haha

    Great voicing for great progression. Thanks, I learn a lot . I'd just like to point the last EM7 add2 voicing ( before Ebm7b5 - G#7b13) end in the 7th and this note, D# clash with the E note of the riff before the melody starts again.
