- Good morning! Today I am taking you along on my super early 5:30 am morning routine. As an Orthodox Jew, you will see some of my daily religious obligations like my morning handwashing ritual and my morning prayers (davening). I will explain as I go, and leave some links here for more detailed explanations. Feel free to drop me a comment if you would like more information on anything! I'll also talk about my caffeine habits, water drinking, and what I eat for breakfast as well as morning exercise routine and taking care of my new pup, Bella. Overall, I talk about working on good habits and things I am working on in my life.

Hello and welcome! My name is Chana, I’m married to my best friend, and together we have three wonderful children together. We also happen to be Orthodox Jews and we homeschool our kids. This vlog is a sneak peek into our daily lives :) You can see how this particular homeschool mom sets up her days, rolls with the punches, and gets it all done. Thanks for watching this day in the life of an Orthodox Jewish homeschooling mom of three!

What is something you like to keep in your morning routine?
Deff coffee and spades. 😊
Stephanie h. I miss coffee in the morning 😂😂😂 When you say spades, do you mean the card game? Gosh I haven’t played that in forever! I need to teach my family!
@@jaroffireflies yeah spades the card game. I need to teach my kids too. I got a free app on my phone and sometimes I play on pogo vs real people.
Stephanie h. I love it! I used to play all the time with friends. I miss it! I need to download the app!
Definitely Dry Brushing
I love how you had to keep as quiet as possible to not wake up anyone. I feel your pain. One creak and my toddler is in my face hahaha. I love seeing how other mamas get ready to tackle the day. Have a great weekend and thanks as always. 😁
Summer K so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for watching!!! Ya that quietly moving around in the morning is no joke 😂
it’s good to see Bella adjusting well and getting into a routine.
She definitely is! She’s fitting right in better than I could have hoped :)
I’m an early bird as well. My favorite thing is lighting a candle and enjoying a black cup of coffee ☕️.
I love lighting a candle too :)
I always enjoy seeing what others do every day. I had to chuckle at your being quiet to keep anyone from waking up. That was always my problem when mine were small if was as if they had radar that went off when Mom's feet hit the floor. I also enjoyed seeing your spiritual practices. After 65 years as a protestant, my husband and I are taking RCIA classes to join the Catholic Church and we are having to learn a lot. Thanks for sharing Chana.
Arlene Grimm yes I feel like a ninja sometimes dodging toys and such while they are sleeping 😂 I was raised Catholic, it’s an interesting religion. Steeped in traditions much like Judaism. Best of luck to you on your religious journey! Very exciting!
You have officially made me feel ok with playing a game in the morning. I never realized that I do it for the same reason you do until you said it. It really does wake me up and gets my gears moving in my mind. No more guilty pleasure attached to it.
Btw, I love your content Hannah, and I am not Jewish. I just appreciate the culture and send love to you and your family. Keep uploading! ❤️🙏💯
I am so happy that gave you some guilt free game time in the morning! Yay! Thank you for your kind and encouraging words 💜
So nice to learn about your morning. Blessings.
I NEED a routine! Working on it. I’m a Conservative Jew , my name is Hadassah and I’m doing online college which is stressing me out . I’m trying to daven more. I like to do the Nisim B’chol Yom. I love your videos . BTW your fur baby is soooo adorable.
Hi Hadassah! It is hard to get into a routine! And I feel like I am constantly tweaking and changing it lol Adding a little more to your davening every day is a great way to build that routine. I think its amazing that you are working to fit that into your routine during online college! Good on ya! :) And thanks about the pup, she's a keeper for sure :)
Its so lovely to see you and Bella enjoy your early morning time together x
😊❤️ Love that pup!
It’s been my dream to find a frum RUclipsr and here you are! Can’t wait to watch more of your videos. Keep on rocking :)
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you found my channel :)
So fun to follow along with your peaceful and productive morning :) I’m with ya on the carbonated water, natural light, AM podcasts and list making. Thanks for sharing your morning with us!
Shmuel the Camel thank you so much for watching! It’s been a great routine for me and I’m glad you enjoyed seeing it :)
There is definitely a early morning routine for me too. The hubby is usually up before me by 5 am, and I help him get his lunch together and out the door, then coffee, prayers and bible reading hopefully done by 7 to get the kids breakfast going. We need to get things going pretty early otherwise the day gets away from us and nothing gets done. I love the idea of taking a morning walk, I was thinking of having a morning walk with the kids and our dog before we start school lessons everyday. Hopefully that’s something we can start doing. 😁
That all sounds like a great morning routine! Though I must say that I’m super glad I wake up first, it really helps me as an introvert. I hope y’all start morning walks! It’s so nice! The walking makes me feel accomplished early which is a nice way to start the day :)
Wow, just when I was trying to understand how to pray in the morning, you post this video!
I use HomeRoutines for my whole routine and in the morning I’m doing mostly daily chores, yoga and a run (3x a week).
Aw I love when things align just right!!! Basic praying in the morning is like I said, morning blessings, torah blessings, shema and amidah. Start with just part and add if that works better for you as you are getting started. It’s a beaut practice and a great way to start the day :) ps yoga in the morning sounds fantastic! I’m going to have to check out the HomeRoutines you talked about. Is that an app?
@@jaroffireflies Yes, it's paid (just once though, no subscription) and quite basic, but I like the zone cleaning feature and sometimes basic is best.
@@Medalea Awesome. I will check it out. I am always looking for new ways to stay organized! Thank you for the info :)
Loved your video. I am always happy when I see that you posted a video. I love my morning davening too. Sometimes it's the only time of the day that I can connect with Hashem in peace and quiet. Thanks for sharing your routine. 💗
I’m so glad you are enjoying the videos! Thank you so much for saying that :) I appreciate it so much! I totally agree about morning sometimes being the only time of day to connect with Hashem. It’s so much harder as the day gets going! 💜
Also. I love your walking skirt. Can you put up a link for it? Where do you get your tichels? Have a sweet, blessed and joyous New Year.
Andrea Ruiz unfortunately the skirt was purchased several years ago on close out sale, so I don’t have a link for it. As for scarves, there are lots of hand me downs that I wear frequently, but the ones I purchase are typically from The Mimi Boutique. They have a fabulous selection!
Thanks. It looks super comfy. It looks similar to one from Kosher Casual. I think I'm going to get one.💗
Andrea Ruiz it’s very comfy :) I wear it lower, on my hips as opposed to my waist so it covers my knees. Love Kosher Casual! Such comfy clothes :)
I love morning routines!! 😊
Maria Segovia 🎉 Yay! Me too!
I love that tapestry on your wall!
Thank you so much!
I definitely have a list every morning
It’s so helpful right?!
Thank you so much! I am a convert who is in the process and I have a siddure, I was trying to figure out which ones I needed to recite in the morning because the book I have has about 40 minutes of morning prayer. This helps so much. We have a SUPER similar routine.
I’m so glad this was helpful! Basically you want to say modeh ani, hand wash, morning blessings, Torah blessings, shema, and Amidah. Check with your rabbi of course :) so exciting! Good luck on your journey!
Your walking shoes are fabulous!
Thank you :) :) :)
New subscriber here! Your tile floor is BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you so much! And welcome! So happy to have you here!
I just have to tell you:
Your head scarf is so beautiful!
Have a good day 😁
Annabelle thank you soooo much! You have a great day too 💕💕💕
Thanks for the video! I'm a night owl, not a morning bird, so I watched/listened to this while doing dishes at night. I wish my toddler slept in! If I wanted to wake up 3 hours before him, I would have to wake up at 3:30am... Instead he wakes me up and I'm happy when he lets me sleep past 7 🙈
ERinaa I used to be a night owl! But my kids need so much of me at bedtime (including laying with them for a bit), so I end up falling asleep or at least getting to tired to get back up lol My kids do stay up pretty late though (9/10), so that really helps with them sleeping in in the morning :)
You are so lovely and your family is beautiful:)
It’s such a pleasure and inspiration watching your videos!!! You carry yourself like a true bat yisroel!! What a nachat to Hashem! Keep up your positive happy attitude, it inspires a lot of women! ❤️🙏🏻
Curious- what time do you usually go to sleep that you’re up by 5:30😬
Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊💜 I usually go to bed around 9:30, and am asleep between 10:30 and 11:30 most often
Uhhh I love lists!! Gotta have it
Yes! All the lists!!! 😊
Baruch Hashem 🙏🏽💙
I love lists. It really reduces the anxiety of carrying around too many things in my head!
Me too!!!
This was so interesting! I found you from Megan Fox’s page and I noticed you commented about your channel. Definitely a new subscriber!
Thank you for popping over to check out my channel! I adore Megan’s channel! It’s so fun to learn about other people lol Thank you so much for subscribing and welcome!!!
Jar of Fireflies Absolutely! I love watching women different from me. Mostly because I know that if I wasn’t covered in tattoos I would have a completely different life and would do everything different! But now I’m just a heavily tattooed Christian woman. And that’s ok too.
TheMomWithTheThroatTattoo It’s definitely ok!!! Having drastically changed my life by converting to Judaism, I get it :) our choices affect our lives and hopefully in good ways :)
Jar of Fireflies Absolutely agree ❤️❤️❤️
TheMomWithTheThroatTattoo 🥰❤️💕
i love faith !!!!!
Me too :)
I am loving your videos. Thank you ! p.s. Where did you get your siddur?
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! My husband got me the siddur in New York, but I’m sure it could be ordered online at a shop like Eichler’s. It’s the Orot Sephardic Weekday Siddur, and I have one for Shabbat as well.
Hi Chana, how are you so awesome?!
You are so sweet! I’m so glad you enjoyed this :) It’s been hard adding all the davening back in, if I didn’t wake up this early there is no way it would all happen. Podcasts!!! I am loving the Brave Writer podcast, and Homeschool Unrefined (my current binge). I’ve enjoyed most episodes of the Sage Parenting podcast as well but she hasn’t had a new episode in a while. The rest of my podcasts are all for the kids lol Do you have any recommendations? There’s a new one also called To Mom Life, it’s an Orthodox Jew, and I just haven’t listened to many episodes yet, but I have met her and she’s awesome. Definitely check it out!
@@jaroffireflies Wow, thanks for the recommendations! Will check out the Mom Life!! I like Brave Writer, she is GREAT but I havent heard many. The Homeschool Sisters I really enjoy! Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy, sweet new yr
JewishEducationatHome I need to check out the Homeschool Sisters, I hear about them a lot! Thanks for the recommendation!
I like La Croix, it's a sparkling infused water (I like the berry flavored only). I know about caffeine, I'm addicted to diet coke.
Yum!!!
My 3rd son's name is Davan, (rhymes with gavin) which is a variant of David, meaning "Beloved." Does the term "Davening" stem from King David and the Psalms, or even the meaning beloved? Very neat to see this in practice. Thank you for the peek into your morning routine.
Hi Jennifer! What a cool name for your son! I’ve never heard that before! I did not know the answer to your question, and I did a little digging but all I could find is that daven is a Yiddish word from Eastern Europe. It’s very widely used by Orthodox Jews to say “pray”. So much so that I slipped and used it all in this video without translating lol Which is why it was in text as a translation. I’m sorry I don’t have a better answer for you! But your son does have a very unique name :)
For your desk you could get a Himalayan sea salt lamp and that might provide enough light, yet be more natural?
Maybe… I really prefer the light from outside whenever possible
Wow!! You daven too!??! Super Imma!!
Simons5862 I do my best! In all ho edgy it doesn’t happen every single day, but I make every effort to wake up early so it does get done :) Once my kids are up all bets are off 😂😂
I actually don’t have a morning routine other than my morning prayer that too is not constant when am on my period I obviously won’t pray , I need a morning routine I will start working on it 😊 thank you
I love your workout skirts! Where do you find them? I find short ones but never the longer ones.
Thank you! I picked up this skirt from a sale at Orvis a couple years ago. I thought it would be a good camping skirt, but I ended up using it for my walking instead :) It’s the perfect length and thickness! Sometimes you just never know where that perfect skirt will come from :)
Love that scarf!!!!! Where did it come from.
Thank you! My sister in law brought it from Israel to me about ten years ago…
As muslim we must pray every morning around 5.30am to 6.30am
5 times a day around
6am
1.30pm
5pm
7.30pm
9pm
Cool! I knew y’all prayed many times a day, is it always the same times even when the days are shorter or longer? We have set hours to pray certain prayers in, but it varied throughout the year, and we just have to get it done before the hours are up, so not a specific time per day but a time block if that makes sense.
@@woah455 thank you for clarifying!
I am your new subscriber, the russian jew living in Texas
Hello and welcome! I’m so glad you’re here!
I would be willing to bet you are not fooling your dog.. :D She hears the faintest stirrings.
By the way, she is adorable.
Thanks :)
Could you do a video on covering your hair?
I do have one video on hair covering, but I plan to do more. Here is a link: ruclips.net/video/7M59cGjrcpY/видео.html Thanks for watching!
May i ask where you bought your davening book please
My husband purchased it for me, but it’s available at Eichler’s
Adorable dog, what is her name? X
Thank you! Her name is Bella :) You can meet her in this video: ruclips.net/video/aKdohpKmfLs/видео.html Enjoy!
This is a serious question: do they make kosher dog food? Does your dog's food have to follow purity requirements?
They probably do make kosher dog food but my dog does not need to keep kosher :)
Also, if you are working out at home, do you wear exercise shorts? Leggings?
I could wear whatever I want :)
This is a random question but does dog food need to be kosher?
Great question! No, my dog does not need to eat kosher :)
Hi, which prayer book are you using , shall I know the name is there English version to buy
It’s called the Orot Sephardic Siddur and it’s available from Eichler’s online. It has both Hebrew and English side by side which is really nice. Commentary / notes are in English
@@jaroffireflies thanks a lot , will they deliver to uae
@@deepthiprakash3127 I don’t know the answer to that but definitely reach out to them and ask. If Amazon delivers to you check there also
@@jaroffireflies sure thanks a lot , watching all your videos and trying to practice the Jewish aspects , thanks
@@deepthiprakash3127 awesome! Good luck!
Perhaps I missed it, but when was the Modah Ani?
Before I get out of bed :) I try to do it first thing when I wake up
I am a conservative jewish to orthodox jewish convert marrying an israeli-moroccan orthodox jew - I am so confused at which siddur I should be reading from... where do I start? We are currently split by international border lockdowns and all the Rabbi's around me are Ashkenazi.
I am so sorry you guys are split! I hope you can be together soon!!! The rabbis around me are Ashkenazi also. I use the Orot Sephardic Siddur (there is one for weekday and one for Shabbat as well as a set for chagim/holidays). Its a wonderful siddur with English and Hebrew side by side. You can buy it on Amazon or at any of the big Jewish online Bookstores like Eichler's.
Which pandemic?
Always very curious about jews lives, please do some videos on how to educate kids 👍
Check out my homeschool playlist! Lots of great info there :) here’s a link: ruclips.net/p/PLqxZU_RTv3pvPu--yWZOCygxii8hjK75A
where is modeh ani, the morning praying?
oh, youre not like doing it first thing* in the morning?
I say Modeh Ani as soon as I wake up, its literally the first thing I do each day :) Before I even get out of bed. So its said before I grabbed my camera :)
@@jaroffireflies but here u show it otherwise... oh, or that does not include it, i must say is really much to say,
didnt u use to get frustrated in the start? i mean first days ever on that?
@@mayanlogos92 yes, it was not included in this video. I didn’t start off saying all the prayers I do now. I started with just modeh ani, then added morning blessings, then added Torah blessings, etc until I am where I am now. Sometimes I add more, sometimes I don’t have time and it’s less. I do my best and that’s all we can do :)
@@jaroffireflies great, so its fine for an orthodox?
@@mayanlogos92 I am an Orthodox Jew, the prayers I say are pretty typical of an Orthodox Jewish woman :)
WHY ARE YOU NOT DOING THE HAND WASHING FIRST BEFORE YOU DO ALL THE REST OF YOUR STEPS YOU TAKE AFTER YOU GET UP?????
JUST NEED TO KNOW
Would it be considered disrespectful to your culture and religion if someone outside of those practiced your culture and religious ways?
Great question:) Lots of people do try to follow our holidays and things, and there is no general consensus about it but I have heard a lot the question why, because a non Jew is not obligated in most of what we do so why would they do it basically
@@jaroffireflies I ask because I have a connection to the Jewish culture... I wholeheartedly believe that the Jewish are God's original people and honestly I can want to communicate to God the way his original people do... as far as the practices I don't understand but prayer i understand...Just interesting to know exactly what prayers the Jewish recite regularly. Thank you for sharing!
