  • In this video I will show you how to steam a synthetic (non-heat friendly) wig away from the face, relax flipped ends, flatten Permatease, and change the part. I am showing you these techniques using Cameron by Jon Renau in 6F27, Caramel Ribbon (even though Cameron does not have Permatease). I'm also wearing Zara Lite by Jon Renau in FS6/30/27, Toffee Truffle, in a ponytail.
    ** Link to my full review for Zara Lite - • Why I Prefer Wigs Over... .
    ** I purchased:
    1. Cameron from wigs.com
    2. Zara Lite from wigs.com
    3. the "isteam" steamer from Amazon
    4. the Rioa Hair Clips - 12 Pack Multicolor Plastic Duck Teeth Clips - from Amazon
    My head measurements are:
    Circumference 22”
    Ear to ear 12.25”
    Forehead to nape 14.5”
    Hairline to bottom of chin 7.25”

    I wear a bob and I needed this video for the exact reason you made it: to address the orientation of the fibers at the front of the face. I am glad I now have a solution to re-directing them away. Hoping I do as well as you! Thanks!

    I would love to see more videos on trimming bangs, adding waves, straightening the hair, thinning, and trimming the sides or back of wigs, etc. I would have enjoyed your "flop" too (on adding beach waves that you mentioned in another video) I can learn from those too ;)
    I tried shampooing a synthetic wig with a little fabric softener and didn't see much of a difference. I would like to see a video on how you wash your wigs and what products you use.
    Thanks so much for the steaming a wig video! Another note.. I agree with a few other people who commented. I appreciated that you didn't fast forward this video. It was also helpful to hear why you would return a wig. THANKS AGAIN!!

      Yay!! I'm so glad to hear that you found my video helpful!😀 I hope you love the results! If there is a lot of visible permatease right on top (not just a little bump), I would suggest disguising it by zig zagging the part instead of steaming it. So great. I have a topper that has too much hair falling forward I haven’t figured how to deal with. Sooo I actually brought it to a wig place and the plucked !? Some hair out but I saw no real diff and she mentioned steaming on my other topper w/permanent tease but didn’t do it. Disappointed as I used them before and the owner although so encouraging for hair loss just terrible at customizing. She hacked a $700 Jon Renault REAL hair topper! so I thought since only place around try someone diff. Very young. Anyway, you gave me confidence to give it a try. Hope the steamer you used is listed!

      Good luck! I used the "isteam Steamer for Clothes" from Amazon. The steamer is great for flattening a Permatease bump. If the Permatease is all over the top and visible on the surface, I would use the Zig Zag parting method shown in this video - ruclips.net/video/l-GjnVy4Qds/видео.html 😀❤

Just FYI, if there is a lot of Permatease visible on the surface, then I don't recommend steaming the top to flatten it. Also, I think flipped ends (a/k/a "tusks") can be a pretty look - it's just a question of personal preference. According to Harper's Bazaar this hair trend is back!👍💖

    Thanks again for this video on steaming. I just recently purchased a steamer and will be following your directions.
    I have a question regarding trimming the synthetic hair. Does it dull your scissors? I have very good sharp hair scissors that I use for cutting human hair so I don’t particularly want to use them if that is the case. Should I purchase a pair of scissors for using only on synthetic hair?

    • @micheleswigreviews
      @micheleswigreviews  2 года назад +2

      You are so welcome! That is a good question about the scissors. I have read that the synthetic fibers may wear down the blades faster than natural hair. I use the same scissors for both my hair and my synthetic wigs and have not had a problem. However, if you spent a lot of $ on your good scissors, it might be a good idea to have a separate pair of scissors for the synthetic wigs. Hope that helps... good luck!😀❤

    Do you ever use the plastic hot air brushes? Do you find steam is just easier? I’ve seen more and more reviews and guides using dry heat. What are ur thoughts on both?

    • @micheleswigreviews
      @micheleswigreviews  Год назад +4

      That's such a great question! I do use a plastic hot air brush on synthetic fibers. I think both the steamer and the plastic hot air brush are great tools for styling wigs. I prefer using the steamer to change the part and style the fibers away from the face because the steam is very hot and can really change the style without stretching or damaging the fibers. I like to use the hot air brush for relaxing curls and flips. I'm much more careful with the hot air brush (either using it on low heat or on high heat while keeping the brush moving, not keeping it in any one place for too long) because you are simultaneously heating and pulling on the fibers. If you're interested, here is a link to a video where I use the hot air brush. ruclips.net/video/-noABApJwjc/видео.html Hope this helps!❤

    Can you steam if there is dried hairspray on the wig or must the wig be clean first?

    • @micheleswigreviews
      @micheleswigreviews  2 года назад +1

      That is a great question! I'm not 100% certain of the answer but I think it would be a good idea to wash the wig to remove the hairspray first. If you steam your wig with hairspray on it that might cause the fibers to be pulled on more than usual which can damage them. Hope this helps!😀❤

    • @micheleswigreviews
      @micheleswigreviews  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Annie, I normally only steam my wigs once, when I first get them. When you change the style on a synthetic wig with steam, the new style will stay in place even after washing. Of course, you can always steam your wig again, if necessary. Be sure to direct the steam at the fibers, not the delicate lace front or monofilament and keep the steamer moving. Good luck, I hope you love the results!👍💖

    • @micheleswigreviews
      @micheleswigreviews  Год назад

      Drew is a beautiful style!👍I'm sorry to hear that you are having a hard time getting her to look the way you want. The term "Permatease" is a combination of the words permanent and teasing. Basically, some fibers are crimped at the base of the wig. Permatease is generally used to add volume, lift, and body to a style. It can also be helpful for concealing wefts. If a wig has a full mono top and/or is fully hand-tied, you will have less Permatease in the style, if any. Hope this helps!💖

      Good question! I haven't ever done that, so I can't say with certainty whether it would be safe or not. I would recommend washing your wig first if it has product in it.
