Mirlitons have been a local favorite for families in Louisiana. Those who didn’t buy them grew them in the back yard. Its interesting to see how others cooked them. I wish we could talk sometime. 🥰 Happy Thanksgiving
Pam, I'm shook! You'd think that my being from N.O. that I would have known that mirliton seeds were edible. Had no idea! Thanks for the tip. Also, had never heard of shrimp and mirliton soup! Will definitely try both. :)
Hey Y’all! I’m a cousin on Mike’s side. I’m Faye’s daughter, Millie’s granddaughter. I totally forgot that y’all have this cooking channel! I’m making mirliton and shrimp soup today and was on the internet looking for recipes. That’s how I found your channel! Can’t tell you how happy this made me. I’ll let y’all know how it comes out today.
Hello and welcome to our channel. Paula, we are thrilled to have you as a subscriber and better, a family subscriber. 🥰 Pam’s Milliton & Shrimp is one awesome soul. I hope you like it as much as we do. ❤️❤️❤️
I'm a NOLA native living in Kansas City and loved every drop of this recipe! I have fond memories of mirlitons during holidays. Now if only I can recreate the spinach and crab soup from Whole Foods from the 90's I will be complete.
@@TheSandersKitchen Oh please do!! Pretty please! I remember it having a Cajun/creole flair to it so probably some crab boil or something was used as seasoning. I'd love for you to recreate it or a similar version!
I was looking for a recipe to use up last years Mirliton and found your recipe. Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I’ve been missing this all my life!! Thank you for sharing. Now I have to do a Sander’s Kitchen marathon😊
I made the mirliton soup night before last. It was awesome! Enjoying your videos. Huge fan of Frank Davis as well. Waiting for your oyster dressing recipe. FYI born in N.O. and grew up in Slidell live in Houston for 30 years. Yall take care.
Hi Patrick, Glad you are liking our videos. I think most of us were born in New Orleans right. And guess what, I do have Frank’s recipe for oyster dressing. I’ll talk it over with Pam to see if we can get that one in soon. Thanks for supporting our channel!
I'm 65 yrs old and the first I'm hearing about this soup, looks so delicious . Going to share with husband . I'm enjoying your videos . Thanks!! That's how I pronounce mirliton, same way you do.
What’s amazing about mirlitons and really any kind of squash is that it absorbs the flavor of whatever you’re cooking with it. This soup looks absolutely amazing! Thank you for sharing ♥️
Mirlitons AKA Chayote, Christophene, Vegetable Pear. - Most of the mirlitons that we purchase at the grocery are imported from Costa Rica, labeled as Chayote. I grow my own mirliton and stuff them back into the (mirliton) shell with shrimp. Or, you can also do a 'Mirliton Shrimp Casserole.' Thanks for sharing your recipe. :)
I love this receipe. It is something I plan to serve for Christmas this year. I love the manner and way of Ms. Sanders, so comfortable with cooking and sharing and I will definitely continue to follow.
We hope you will try this recipe. It’s absolutely delicious. And, we will soon do another great recipe using mirliton called, stuffed mirliton. It’s easy to make and so delicious. I can hardly wait to do this one.

Very good!
This is the first recipe I have ever seen using mirlitons. I have seen them in the store but I had no idea how to use the or how to cook them.
We hope you will try this recipe. It’s absolutely delicious. And, we will soon do another great recipe using mirliton called, stuffed mirliton. It’s easy to make and so delicious. I can hardly wait to do this one.
Would it be OK to use stock from the shrimp shells?
Yes!!!! 😉
How many servings does this make? Can I freeze the soup?
You definitely can freeze the soup. 6 Quarts. 24 servings. Approximately
@@TheSandersKitchen Thank you.
In Westwego Shrimp went into many different meals. Buy male, female plants grow let them climb a big trellis or fence
We always had them growing when mom and dad were young and we lived in New Orleans.
I also add cutup mushrooms when I add the shrimp .
Sounds like that would be a good addition.
I didn't see any recipe! Where's the ingredients list, please?
Look below the video. On a computer not on tv.
I'm not watching from a TV! I always watch from my phone, and I don't see it, just comments. Does it "have" to be watched from a computer only?
@@hpankie If you touch the descriptive words under the video the entire recipe pops up. I just tried it and it worked for me.
Thank you. I didn't know that.
My mother would have loved this soup.
I got a little out board motor!😂😂😂😂😂

Come see!
It starts at 4;15
