Size does matter!! The 390 F is stationary due to maintenance, but the trucks still gotta roll..

  • Stepping in with a 352 F for the 390 F, to keep the trucks rolling and to maintain some production, at a road project south in Norway.. Someone told me, that a 352 was able to load as much rock as a 390..🤪 Can't say I agree..😅 I'm used to load 772's with 4 to 5 passes in just over a minute.. Take the time on my loading cycles here and try to count number of passes with the 352, and tell me this is as fast as a 390 F can be! Or not..😄
    My calculations tells me that we load and haul up to 700 tons/hour, with the 390 F I'm loading at a pace of 1600 - 1700 tons/hour!

    The 352F has the right bucket for that job. In a quarry next to me they have a 352F too and changed the Hitachi ZX 870 now with a CAT 390F. You can watch on my channel that 352F loading a 775G dump truck... oh man...

      Hehe, I would like a other bucket for loading rock..😉 I feel the machine loses to much breakout force due to the length of the bucket, at the same time it is so narrow that I feel everything is sliding of the bucket when I start to turn toward the truck...🙈😄 But, it is very nice for service works like digging ditches, clearing the rock face, excavating roots and stuff that is hard to get a hold on! These 352's are used in various operations, so it's ok with tools that have a wide variety! 🙃
      I will have a look at the video you refer to!👌😁

    I just realized that this is mostly limestone being loaded and handled. I like seeing blasted limestone loaded, I'm guessing that it's easier to dig and handle? Wow with that size bucket, I'm guessing that you had to make a lot of trips to the hall trucks. Hehe, this was just a guest artist task, as I was waiting for a new project for my 390..😅 Was only here for two shifts, the first one 3 months earlier than the shift I was filming this, and this one..😄 Had an old 349E the first shift, and had this 352 F this turn! Jepp, the bucket is small, but a 50 ton excavator doesn’t handle our materials with any larger buckets..🤪 Heavy and hard materials, you know!😂
      Jepp, I wrote something about production on a 390 compared to this one! I might add that the 390 won’t handle any larger buckets than we already have either..🥵😅
      I nearly exhausted myself trying to hold these trucks rolling back then, 11 to 14 passes per load is insanely hard to do fast 12 hours a day, for 7 days!😝😄 I van manage to load between 500 and 700 tons per hour with a 352, and up to about 1600 tons per hour with the 390!😅 Some difference huh?😂

    • @norwegianearthmovers
      @norwegianearthmovers  3 года назад +1

      Haha, you are right about that!😅👍 Twice the time actually, and twice as much effort from the operator..😝😂
      Management points at the average production between sizes sometimes, but keeps forgetting that a 390 needs over twice as much materials available to keep the average up..🤪 When loading with a 352, there is sufficient with one drill rig to keep feeding rock, with the 390 I need 3 large rigs!😄
      The main issue when it comes to larger equipment, is better haulroads, larger and several more places to dump materials, more equipment to make ready the blasts - to get higher frequencies of the blasts!😄
      On narrow sites, a 352 can be more efficient than a 390 because of lack of space, and the 390 won’t load any faster when waiting for trucks or more materials..🤪😅
      My best shift (14 days) with the 390 is 140 000 m3’s in a large quarry with full flow, my best ever with a 352 was about 75 000m3’s..😅 Some statistics to bring to the table, for planning ahead!🤪😄

    • @rockkitty100
      @rockkitty100 3 года назад

      @@norwegianearthmovers It is truly amazing at all of the variables that you need to exam to determine which equipment is the most economical on a job site, especially in mining! You just mentioned a few but there must be so many more variables but the common denominator is downtime kills profits. Doesn't matter if you're sitting on a 390 waiting for a haul truck or material. But at the same time, you don't want too small of equipment or you are missing cycles. In your industry, the P&L is really having the right equipment for the right job. That is why I'm grateful that I get to bid our work (although 90% of our work I negotiate) and hire a contractor to do it. Thanks for the great insight and Happy New Year!!!!!

    • @norwegianearthmovers
      @norwegianearthmovers  3 года назад

      @@rockkitty100 no doubt about that!😄 We do have a lot of different equipment, and the large ones are meant for the big blasts! The challenges comes up when we enter narrow parts of the projects, and it’s then these statistics seems to be brought up..🤪 At a project with 200 - 300 men, there will sometimes be some struggles, but the smaller machines will keep up production since they don’t handle that amount of materials. The 390 will suffer fast, if blasts get smaller than planned, or it suddenly gets difficult to maintain maximum ability to process the materials at the reception! Without a 390, we wouldn’t be able to push production that hard when we do get to it, so it is a pretty heavy burden on those who does the planning, both in equipment and in the project!😄
      For me, all these factors makes the job interesting and fun, to participate in overcoming obstacles or issues - finding alternative methods and ways to push forward, and to find the optimal combination of machines at site do get the job don profitable!😁
      Not an easy job, and sometimes the decisions are taken way above me! But those times I’m included, I really gives all to be a part of the solution!!😅

      Hehe, dette var jo en hyggelig kommentar! 😉 Gjør så godt jeg kan da vettu, har en underliggende kubikkfeber hber gang jeg får spaker i hendene..🤪😅 Tror nok ikke jeg er alene om å kunne laste jevnt, men det er nok ikke så mye mer å hente ut av maskina enn hva som gjøres her..🙃 Annen skuff og XE maskin vil nok være litt raskere, men det blir jo en helt annen 352..😄
      Takk, er morro når hva jeg viser settes pris på!😊

      Hi!🙂 Thank you!🙏😋 To be honest, I don’t know what type of rock that was..😅 I think that the rock had similarity with “gneier”, that google called it..😄 I worked with that some years ago, think it looked and felt about the same!

    you maximise efficiency by loading with the pattern and set up you work, cant do any better than that and it would help the numbers of the smaller machine just like it does the larger machine, at a construction job near me they are happy with 1000 m3 per hour from there PC2000!

    • @norwegianearthmovers
      @norwegianearthmovers  3 года назад

      Hehe, 1000 m3’s is around my daily goal, so a machine twice as large should probably chase a little higher goal?😄 It is however difficult to to say anything about why, there could be safety reasons that can slow the production down as well..?🤪
      There has been sometimes that my production has been affected by safety measures as well, I have had some shifts where I was forced to work in other ways and lost a lot of productivity due to working with other techniques..
      However, I have had to adjust my goals a bit on this new project.. At my last, we had very fine rock, that really would fill the bucket wide up! We loaded and hauled about 1000m3’s every hour when loading the trucks in four passes!!🤩
      It takes about 15 seconds longer to load in 5 buckets, so even with slightly larger loads, it is harder to achieve the numbers I like..🤪😅 I guess we now average about 700 to 900 m3’s by the hour, on this site!
      Thank you so much for your kind review, I must say that what you write flatters me!🙏😊 Techniques are important when it comes to every machine in every size, it is very nice that what I do, gets recognized!!🤗

      Hehe, I see that I have answered for wrong machine, when it comes to numbers..🙈😅 I have been working with so many machines this year, that it’s not easy to keep track anymore..😝😄
      But we did chase out between 3 and 400 m3’s by the hour with this tiny thing🤪
