I’ve got a gaming rig, and have tried to run on max graphic settings, and usually it ends up crashing back to my desktop because my 16G tower has run out of memory. My tips, Save often (nrass has a cool mod to help here), and set video settings high enough to look good, but low enough not to eat up memory like Cookie Monster in a biscuit factory.
I've watched countless of videos like this and i still learn new ways to make the game work better. The bonus tip was what surprised me the most, im trying that right now! Excellent video!
For use more RAM. The Sims 3 is a 32 bit game and with no 64 bit version available on anything besides Mac OSX setting the RAM to anything above 4gb will be the exact same as just setting it to 4 gb as 4 gb is all 32 bit applications can use. This setting will become a lot more useful if they ever decide to make a 64 bit version of Sims 3 for windows but that's very unlikely unless Microsoft does something to Windows where it can no longer run any 32 bit applications.
thank you so much! i've been playing the sims 3 since i was about 9, and it's just started to run worse over the years. i had no idea what nraas mods were, but now i do!! thank you for the helpful video!!
If you've had the sims 3 for a long time, try out "Regul Save Cleaner" it will help delete cache files and clean out saves that you have played in for a long time
Sims 4 players: you got to install mods just for the game to run better. Me: And you have to install mods on the sims 4 so the game itself can be better…
Regarding the ”Use more RAM” step. A disclamer is that it has nothing to do with ram. It regards the max script heap and is set to about 20gb originally. It’s not recommended to change that. The game is 32bit and can therefore only use up to about 4gb which is does by default already without any intervention. Some people have mentioned the game running smoother after using the downloadable 4gb patch (which unlocks other 32bit game to use 4gb instead of the original 2gb) but in theory it should not do anything since this was already fixed with a patch during late night expansion pack release.
im gonna see if i can edit that out, honestly there is a lot of unclear information floating around, I just shared specifically what I do since everyone is always asking
I've done some research and there seems to not be a clear consensus on this, experienced modders seem to disagree with you but I really don't understand the technical stuff well enough to say either way. I am finding 4000000 to be way better than 2000000 but, anything above that doesnt do anything when testing this morning.
TS3 was made LAA since the Generations patch, so using those third-party programs to make it use more than 2GB is pointless. It does literally nothing.
Thanks to this video and your "10 necessary mods" video, my TS3 is playing brilliantly! Even more amazing is for the first time I can experience Island Living!!! 🤗 Thank you So much. You have a new Subscriber here and I look forward to viewing your previous and future videos. Ty again.
Thank you so much!! I've been trying to troubleshoot these issues for days, and now it finally works! Thanks to you, I can return to the Sims 3 after many years :P
Thank you so much for the sims 3 lag fix , now i can finally play sims 3 again, because sims 4 was so broken and laggy even with a fix it still didnt work
Thank you so much! My game has been slugging recently and this helped. Obviously I didn't know about the tips (the pathfinding/sims getting clumped one I didnt know about) so that totally helped!
Use more RAM topic is misleading. By default Sims 3 is a 32 bit application and can use RAM no more than 4GB (actually 3.5GB is already cause instability). That is why we have been asked for 64 bit executable for decade. The 64 bit executable only came to Mac in late 2020 but not for Windows.
Yes, this is the MAIN thing keeping The Sims 3 behind. They'll never fix this because if they did The Sims 3 would be better than The Sims 4 in literally every way.
@liurabaum8746 Having more than 4gb is still preferred since Windows 11 itself already takes 4gb and some will open a browser for loading mod/cc. 16gb should be minimum today. 32gb if you are building a new pc. 10 years ago 8gb had long been considered as enough for Sims since the game takes 4gb Windows 7 fully patched 2gb and browser around 2gb as well.
@@canirunit8162 I only have this 4 and a Windows 10 that somehow bugged and can't download updates since 2019 HAHAHAHA I work with what god gives me, ok? 😅
@liurabaum8746 If you have only 4gb ram I suggest downgrading to Windows 7 without update. It only takes 800mb of ram to run. Don't update since it will take 2gb instead.
I usually never comment on youtube videos, but I'm so glad I've found your video!!! I didn't play Sims 3 in a long time due to the lag but also didn't want to play Sims 4 due to obvious reasons haha! But thru your video my Sims 3 finally runs so smooth, it feels like a complete new game! Thank you!
One thing that tripped me up recently was that once I switched over to using the Smooth Patch Launcher, my FPS limiter that was applied on the original TS3.exe was no longer in effect. Believe you may see this same issue based on the walkthrough.
Use more RAM was the only step I was missing!!! (and that bonus tip..) Thank you so much :) EDIT to add..OMG? Lag is gone...in my Sims 3 game. That feeling is hard to put into words lol
brother, thank you, Finally a video that helps and explains it quickly and easily It helped a lot, although I had enough fps before, but there was endless micro-stuttering when I wanted to move left and right with the mouse.
You explained this so well, thank you! I got TS3 again because TS4 got so boring for game play lol, but the lagging is crazy. I've uninstalled other games I don't play, made more room, but I forgot about the PC properties to check the space I have 😂 I've tried changing the Sims3 number from 2 to 8, but when I went to save it, it said I don't have permission, and it's my own computer 😭😂 I was looking at the NRAAS mods last night, so I'll definitely get them. I know it's been two years, but thanks for this video! 😊
Since I'm home recovering I've been trying to catch up on videos I haven't seen yet. This one was a cool surprise. No more origin though, which I think was a huge mistake and rip off. Good job. Nice presentation. 🌹
I have to saay I never really had major issues with how the game runs. Sure some sims are stuck or buggy but I never experienced major Lags accept for Isla paradiso lol. The only time my game constantly crashed was when I only had my laptop when I was living in dorms
Some people find helpful when they download clean Isla Paradiso town (like custom map it's just the same without people already living there) and is working much smother for them. Maybe try this?
Late to the party but on the "use more ram" part, it wont let me save it in the same filetype, only as a text file. Says im not allowed and need to ask the ownser/administrator, cant seem to be able to open it as an admin either. Im on windows 11 btw
Tip: if you do literally everything and nothing works, rename your sims 3 file in documents to backup, and start the game so it generates a new one. Solved my lag spikes when zooming in or out when nothing else worked.
@keisvanity you have a Sims 3 folder in both your documents and c:\ program files folder. Locate the electronic arts folder in your documents folder, then find the Sims 3 one. Rename it instead of deleting it if you have custom content/mods. Then run the game and it'll generate a new one. You'll need to move the mods you want back, but the culprit could very well be a corrupted cc file too.
I get what your saying with this but...I had an old laptop with intergated graphics, it ran perfectly smoothly. Hardly ever had a problem. It should stutter for about half a second one a while. The only thing was it would make the laptop eventually overheat and shut down😥
I have been having problems with stuttering in my game, I have tried cleaning out my cache but that did not work. My sims every few seconds will just freeze for 5 seconds and then resume. The weird thing is that the plumbob still spins but the sims freez and I can't click on anything. (By the way I'm on MacOS)
Ngl I really missed Nraas mods. I registered on their old website back in dec 2011. There is so much customization that MCCC can't even compare, it is like Twallan was the Sims 3 developer themselves. If you have a Sim stuck doing nothing in Sims 4, the error trap will reset your sim shortly (that just how responsive the mod is at times). Reorder the task may be annoying, but it's not like the Sims remember it anyway in TS4. Btw, smooth patch shoves my loading screen from 2 minutes to less than a minute (~40-50). Crazy to think that traveling to 3 lots in TS4 has a longer loading screen 🗿.
I'm personally having some trouble with the Graphics Card Recognizer as when I click on the Device ID Recognizer, nothing happens, and when I check the DeviceConfig, it matches it but wont find it. I wonder if it is because I am using Windows 11 (unfortunately, I just haven't bothered to change it back since eventually we are all going to be forced to change to it) and not Windows 10 like it says in the App Notes. Other than that, great tutorial! If anyone has any advice, please let me know
There hasn't been much experience in the community with windows 11, and I'm not expert but that could possibly be the issue. Honestly, I got the most improvement from the smooth patch, others said the CPU fix is their best result. Either way you should see a great improvement even without the GPU matched, specifically with loading times and build lag.
this is just unbelievably ridiculous, that a consumer has to do such things, to fuckin play the game. i mean, i paid for it right? so why the fuck do we have to patch it like 80 year old pants? to the people who are writing this programs and patches. thank you so much for your work.
Well after everything my game still is running horrible so I tried to uninstall the game completely. It won’t even allow me to remove the sims 3 folder now it keeps saying I don’t have permission to do it. Guess I shouldn’t have let those files run as administrator if it was gonna do this.
Help, when I try to run TS3_GPU_Addon it literally doesn't do anything! I first get the warning, then I get the option to run it as Administrator, then I run it, and then... nothing. Not even a pop up. Not any error messages. The thing just refuses to run!
@@Rekowcski Omg it posts a fucking comment!? That's so awkward for the creator! Sorry about that! This video was super helpful, and I appreciate the perfect balance of "I'm not going to patronise you, but I'll try not to make it too complicated" That takes a fair bit of effort and you really could have dragged it out for view time so I just appreciate you Also "if you don't know how to unzip, just look up a tutorial" was spectacular and my adhd ass thanks you for leaving it at that ♥️
Smooth Patch is not instantly loaded variety material or commonly outfit category but with Smooth Patch, only loading type variety material/outfit when scroll down so not need wait too long fully loading all variety material/outfit & repeated wait too long again when switch back to same material/outfit without Smooth Patch. Other mod about more ingredients or something that adds time loading title game (not in loading save game) but add more fun or challenge (hot dog need not only links but must use long bun). June 18, 2024 I have a gaming laptop. I just downloaded the sims and all the exspasions. My game has no lag.. i can remember back in 09 the lag with creat a style. i havent found any lags on my pc yet... I"ll keep trying lol
I can't find the exact line were you should type in the 60 fps limit in the nvidea control panel. My windows 10 is in dutch. I looked after every option but I don't see an option were I can change the fps. It's either choosing between "on", "off" or "1, 2, 3, 4" wich makes me confused. I only found vertical synchronisation.
Smooth thingy, I have neither steam, nor origin. I have the disk version, I hope 1 or more of these work. I find that it's Island Paradise (water animation) that has given my game grief. I knew about the RAM, I have 32gb and changed it to 16gb. Nrass cupcake was the only 1 that didn't work for me... I always test each mod separately (except when needed multi, like controllers) and follow the creators instructions.
I'm on integrated intel and only have the alder lake patch so it'll run on a modern 12th 13th gen cpu for those that can't get it to start. The only issue is that there's no vsync in full screen mode, and it runs slower in a window when the screen has vsync. Intel doesn't seem to have a force vsync option for full screen
About the Sims 3 GPU Add On, it says that my graphics card was found and supported. But when I want to apply the patch, the green arrow to apply it is greyed out. What do I do?
I just launch the game each time with that launcher, but i know lazy duchess has another launcher some people use. This is just the basics to get things fixed as simply as possible.
i tried using the gpu addon, and everything went fine like in your video, but my text file still says "found 0 matched 0". i looked in the troubleshooting guide but didn't find this problem. does anyone know what to do?
@@Kurapikock yeah, all you need to do is open the game, and then it will work, it’s actually simple :) i learned this from a youtuber, acottonsock’s, video on island paradise
If you don’t have a gaming computer, Sims 3 runs very smoothly naturally on lenovopad laptops or desktops. They are extremely powerful when it comes to games, but the good ones are expensive I paid 2,000 for my 17 inch one, might as well have bought a gaming pc right? Lmao
To be fair, I built my pc for gaming (but it's very budget and old so idk if it counts as a gaming pc) and Sim 3 runs like shit hahaha. (i7, 16gb Ram, GTX 980 Ti) This game is a mess.
I agree, sims 3 ran much better than I expected on my ideapad for some reason. Granted I only have like 2 expansion packs and not much CC (I also tinkered with settings and nRAAS mods like errortrap and overwatch for game stability)
What about the Sims 4 on Lenovo designed laptops I have a HP and I’ve been asking my mom to give me a Lenovo Laptop because I need a smooth laptop to make sure it is running 💀 I use to play the Sims 3 on a hp laptop with a model that has 8 gb and I can switch to 16 gb but sadly the laptop was only 32-but while my newest laptop is 64-bit and 4 gb 😭😭
But the thing is that the Sims 3 ran so smoothly on my moms laptop on the highest settings and that shit tab so smooth as a baby’s milk bottle then my game kept crashing and my save files became corrupted and were automatically deleted and erased 💀🥺
Gonna try setting this up later today. I just got back into Sims 3 since I am tired of 4, and it's so laggy I can barely function. I hope this works out.
The smoothness patch alone helped so much! I just got it done, your video helped so much, but just so you know the first part is out of date, Lazy Dutchess did change it so you no longer need to launch the patcher, it automatically does it if placed into the correct files, but I never had heard of this mod until you, so thank you! I'll be trying the other things eventually, but already, the load screen is much faster, and the game isn't a slide show! Loved the video! ❤
That's great! I knew about the smooth patch update so I was mostly commenting in case you didn't find the update, but it looks like you have everything under control 💕
Damn Windows defender and Smartscreen did NOT like Duchess’s TS3Patch Even after putting the Sims3 folder in the exceptions list, I still had to take both offline to run the patch.
I'm afraid that the Discord join link is already expired, and I had a few questions because I have the disc version rather than Origin, and I'm not certain the first two mods worked for me. I did notice *some* improvement, but there's still grievous stuttering and colossal loading times.
Hi, I am trying to download the smooth patch for windows 11 on the EA app, ive downloaded the lazy duchess launcher, but when I play sims on the launcher it changes the resolution of my screen and crashes. Can anyone help?
The only thing a little out of date is the smooth patch, now there is a version 2.1. Download it from lazy duchess and follow their instructions, everything else in the video should still work
Watching this as I'm contemplating a possible return to Sims 3.. I wonder if these fixes can help out with loading better textures - or maybe I just really have no luck for a smooth experience since I only have 1GB integrated ☠️ Thanks for the video anyway! I'm saving this for one day if I do get better hardware to run the game.
The smooth patch really helps create a style load things faster. It takes maybe half an hour to an hour and you can have the sims 3 like butter. Come by my discord if you have questions. Everyone is friendly even me :p
Honestly i've tried everything and the game still runs pretty badly, I do have quite a few mods, albeit mainly just CAS stuff like hair or clothing but no matter what actions i take, whether it be modifying in game settings or files. The Game simply just continues to lag, Granted this is an issue that i've had for years over different Devices. My PC is somewhat Average (I mean it can handle games like Red Dead 2 pretty good) but still, it just doesn't handle very well. It's a shame as well because EA will never fix anything because their cash cow (Being Sims 4) is producing a fuck ton of money with it's 1K worth of DLC (Unless your a Chad Anadius Enthusiast and use the Updater)
If you made an error it won’t work, try and backtrack or just backup your saves/mods and “repair game”. Try one step at a time and launch in between so you know which steps have worked
Hey Rekowcski, I'm wondering if you've updated your game to the smooth patch 2.0 since you uploaded this video? I've been seeing people have issues with it, so I'm not sure if I should just stick to downloading ths version instead.
maybe i can finally run the game with graphics on high...... and the water can stop looking like an infinite void
give it a shot... i dont have an expensive gaming PC and it runs as good as TS4 (and without all the bugs)

Help, when I try to run TS3_GPU_Addon it literally doesn't do anything! I first get the warning, then I get the option to run it as Administrator, then I run it, and then... nothing. Not even a pop up. Not any error messages. The thing just refuses to run!
Hi at 6:47 I saw "preloader enabled = true" I wonder what that is because mine is set "false" by default?
Thanks
That was so kind... thank you so much x
@@Rekowcski Omg it posts a fucking comment!? That's so awkward for the creator! Sorry about that!
This video was super helpful, and I appreciate the perfect balance of "I'm not going to patronise you, but I'll try not to make it too complicated"
That takes a fair bit of effort and you really could have dragged it out for view time so I just appreciate you
Also "if you don't know how to unzip, just look up a tutorial" was spectacular and my adhd ass thanks you for leaving it at that ♥️
You remind me so much of Cindy ❤️ but of course I love your uniqueness! And that we both are fruity lol 🌈💚
That is such a compliment, I miss her so much. I feel there is a void on youtube that simply cannot be filled ):
I miss Cindy so much 🤧 These type of videos do remind me of hers, she helped me so much with getting started in the Sims
Thanks share this💙😁🌈🌈🌈🌈.
I only found vertical synchronisation.
make sure you are under "Manage 3d Settings" and "Global Settings" ... the option for Max Frame Rate is likely set to "Unlimited" or a similar word
i can't find the config file after opening it once
Renaming the bin to "EA" has to be the funniest thing I've seen all day. We all know they deserve it, though
it's still named EA :| hahaha
NRaas mods don't work for me, they just make my game crash
Smooth thingy, I have neither steam, nor origin. I have the disk version, I hope 1 or more of these work. I find that it's Island Paradise (water animation) that has given my game grief. I knew about the RAM, I have 32gb and changed it to 16gb.
Nrass cupcake was the only 1 that didn't work for me... I always test each mod separately (except when needed multi, like controllers) and follow the creators instructions.
I'm here in 2024. My Sims 3 game has been loading great for some reason. Like no time at all.
I love how the trash bin is called EA
I'm on integrated intel and only have the alder lake patch so it'll run on a modern 12th 13th gen cpu for those that can't get it to start. The only issue is that there's no vsync in full screen mode, and it runs slower in a window when the screen has vsync. Intel doesn't seem to have a force vsync option for full screen
About the Sims 3 GPU Add On, it says that my graphics card was found and supported. But when I want to apply the patch, the green arrow to apply it is greyed out. What do I do?
Do you have to open the sims 3 launcher through the smooth patch each and every time you play? Or just when you first install it?
I just launch the game each time with that launcher, but i know lazy duchess has another launcher some people use. This is just the basics to get things fixed as simply as possible.
i tried using the gpu addon, and everything went fine like in your video, but my text file still says "found 0 matched 0". i looked in the troubleshooting guide but didn't find this problem. does anyone know what to do?
Same for me.. Need help :D
did you figure it out?
@@Kurapikock yeah, all you need to do is open the game, and then it will work, it’s actually simple :) i learned this from a youtuber, acottonsock’s, video on island paradise
@@julia-nu4fj thank you it worked!!!
@@Kurapikock no problem!
(i7, 16gb Ram, GTX 980 Ti)
This game is a mess.
I agree, sims 3 ran much better than I expected on my ideapad for some reason. Granted I only have like 2 expansion packs and not much CC (I also tinkered with settings and nRAAS mods like errortrap and overwatch for game stability)
What about the Sims 4 on Lenovo designed laptops I have a HP and I’ve been asking my mom to give me a Lenovo Laptop because I need a smooth laptop to make sure it is running 💀
I use to play the Sims 3 on a hp laptop with a model that has 8 gb and I can switch to 16 gb but sadly the laptop was only 32-but while my newest laptop is 64-bit and 4 gb 😭😭
Let me know how it goes
The smoothness patch alone helped so much! I just got it done, your video helped so much, but just so you know the first part is out of date, Lazy Dutchess did change it so you no longer need to launch the patcher, it automatically does it if placed into the correct files, but I never had heard of this mod until you, so thank you! I'll be trying the other things eventually, but already, the load screen is much faster, and the game isn't a slide show! Loved the video! ❤
That's great! I knew about the smooth patch update so I was mostly commenting in case you didn't find the update, but it looks like you have everything under control 💕
I fkd my game up. Lost loads of my cc. Can anyone help. When i followed the instructions online i lost even more custom content.
oh no! which instruction? none of these fixes should affect any CC
Damn Windows defender and Smartscreen did NOT like Duchess’s TS3Patch
Even after putting the Sims3 folder in the exceptions list, I still had to take both offline to run the patch.
what do i do if it the graphic card reader button doesn’t do anything when i click it? nothing pops up :(
Btw Lazy Duchess also made a searchbar mod
This is the best content so far hha thankyou
luckily these aren't that complicated. I'm just too lazy to do it all lmao
I'm afraid that the Discord join link is already expired, and I had a few questions because I have the disc version rather than Origin, and I'm not certain the first two mods worked for me. I did notice *some* improvement, but there's still grievous stuttering and colossal loading times.
discord.gg/JVDnhz52 here u go, hope we can help u
problem i have only keep pick up 1 graphics card and not the other 1 i have.
helppp how do i save the ram edit? I'll change it to 4 then try save but it says i dont have permission and when i quit then reopen its back at 2
5:25 is necesary ?
If I try using more RAM and CPU that way, it says I need to be allowed to make that change. How to fix it?
The only thing I've never done was the GCR thing - holy moly
hope it works for you x
Can’t get the gpu mod to work, both are found 0, match 0. and the trouble shooting has no help with that.
Amazing video. My game runs very well.
Hi, I am trying to download the smooth patch for windows 11 on the EA app, ive downloaded the lazy duchess launcher, but when I play sims on the launcher it changes the resolution of my screen and crashes. Can anyone help?
I'm sorry I have no experience with windows 11 yet
A little late to the party here, but does this still work for TS3 in the new EA app? Origin doesn't exist anymore.
The only thing a little out of date is the smooth patch, now there is a version 2.1. Download it from lazy duchess and follow their instructions, everything else in the video should still work
@@Rekowcski Highly appreciated, thanks for the quick answer and the helpful video :)
@@Blackbeardo players stick together
Sims 3 at max, being a 32bit exe can only use 4gb, but im not sure if it can really use more than 3gb. But every little bit helps.
I don't know why I thought this video wouldn't be helpful, I thought it would be unironical content LOOL
I’m often a sassy bitch so it was totally possible LOL
Watching this as I'm contemplating a possible return to Sims 3.. I wonder if these fixes can help out with loading better textures - or maybe I just really have no luck for a smooth experience since I only have 1GB integrated ☠️
Thanks for the video anyway! I'm saving this for one day if I do get better hardware to run the game.
The smooth patch really helps create a style load things faster. It takes maybe half an hour to an hour and you can have the sims 3 like butter. Come by my discord if you have questions. Everyone is friendly even me :p
I need help, when I start the game I get a warning: initialization error and it won't let me play
Thank you for this video ❤❤❤
can I fix more ram than 80000000 ?
if my computer has 24gb ram
what number value should I have ?
half of 24, so 12
Heyy!! I have done every step on your video but now mi game just suddenly turns off! I dont know what to do...
If you made an error it won’t work, try and backtrack or just backup your saves/mods and “repair game”. Try one step at a time and launch in between so you know which steps have worked
Q: After I ran the nexus mod i got this error; steam library VDF not found... what does this mean?
saving this for later
Do you know when the pop up supposed to show when I launch the game?
My game stoped working and I had to reinstall everything after doing the changes on the computer so be aware that that can happen.
I have intel uhd graphics so I don't have nvidia. How can I access 3d settings?
Hey Rekowcski, I'm wondering if you've updated your game to the smooth patch 2.0 since you uploaded this video? I've been seeing people have issues with it, so I'm not sure if I should just stick to downloading ths version instead.
I am currently using the 2,0 version with the EA app and it's working... But I did need the lazy Duchess launcher too
