Just love these banjo ukes Jody, I love this sound, like the George Formby and his uke sound, I have lots to play, and need the Small tight banjo sound with uke thanx Jody, x
I love the sound of these. It has that sort of high pitch resonance singing sort of sound that originally attracted me to soprano uke but stronger. If I had one I would just play it like a regular ukulele.
Hello Jodie, I just found your channel. I also own an Oscar Schmidt OUB-1 Concert Banjolele as well as the Oscar Schmidt Concert Ukulele. I have been searching for a case for the banjolele and have come across much frustration about which case will fit it. The best bets seemed like either the Kamise or the Gretch, but I kept getting conflicting information. FINALLY I’ve found someone who can answer that question with authority. Thanks again. I really enjoyed this intro video and have just subscribed. I look forward to checking out more of your videos.
I learnt the claw hammer and banjo rolls from tge banjo section...just imagine the style pick all the string except the fifth string. Songs cripple creek, father finger ate great for the banjolele.. Banjolele are bright and loud so go easy on the strum or risk been ban from the ukulele group. The strength in the banjolele is the banjo style picking pattern.
You may have already run across this, but clawhammer is a banjolele style that I have found quite a few videos for on RUclips. Aaron Keim is the teacher that I have found the most useful. He published a book and has videos for each song. I'm working my way through it now and really like it. His channel is here : ruclips.net/user/ackeimvideos. I have a Firefly banjolele from the Magic Fluke company and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of a Beansprout banjolele at the end of the month! Banjoleles are so much fun!
They Call the Wind Maria ..... works well on a banjo ukulele. I am fingerpicking challenged so that part is taking a while 😖 I didn’t know Oscar Schmidt made a banjo ukulele. I have a Kmise concert size banjo ukulele that I’m wild about. Thank you for your video. 🎶 Mike
Thank you for your channel Jodie, I have spent a lot of time here. In particular, It's the main resource for picking a banjolele. Based on your comparison I bought/received the OUB1. Small issue, maybe you can help: There is a pronounced Twang on the A string. Can't really isolate it but kinda think it is the bridge. And also wondering if the head needs tightening because it does not sound as tight as yours when you tap it. This is a synthetic material versus calfskin which yours sounds like. Point me in the right direction? Thx in advance, sure glad I found you!
Thanks; I too went with Amazon/the brand and head. Then found you for review...as an after thought. I've played banjo for years before discovering the fun of Ukulele. Then a friend introduced me to banjo Uke...Fun! I'll be receiving mine next week (plus your case recommend)
Hey Jodi, great review! Did a double-take when I came across your channel searching for banjolele reviews. Great stuff. Have you had a chance to play the Amahi banjolele? I'm wondering how it would stack up to something like this.
Tony Lunt , hello friend! No, i haven’t played that one yet. I’m pretty sure the Amahi banjolele is new, but I will look for it next time I go to Antonio Violins. They have all the Amahi models.
Thanks for the vid! Look up clawhammer ukulele for a way of playing banjo style. I'm looking at this model on Kijiji for about $100 precisely to develop my clawhammer technique. 😊👌
Thanks. I have heard of clawhammer but have never tried it. Think I will. I am interested in developing more strumming techniques on the ukulele since I tend to just strum it like I do a guitar. I will say, I think $100 is a great deal for this.
Howdy Jodie Gosh can I keep up with you today! I use a Kmise banjo/ukulele and looks very similar - if not the same. Probably manufactured in China and companies put their own name on them. Best song to play with a banjo/ukulele is Sweet City Woman by the Stampeders, You can find that in my videos yet I didn't have mine then so I used a Kala travel ukulele. And another one that I did play one in a video is I wish that I could shimmy like my sister Kate by Clarence Williams.
I just wrote a reply about the Kmise. I just got one. I love it. There's a YT review on the Kmise and the guy says there are several Chinese brands made by, (or probably made by), the same company. They're all close to the same. I bought the kit with bag, extra strings, pick-up, strap, wrench & picks for just over $90. I also bought a Mitchell baritone uke that is nearly identical to the Oscar Schmidt and was about 1/3rd the price.
Does anyone have the Deering Goodtime Banjolele? Personally, I think it's ugly and waaaaaaaaaay over-priced. It sounds nice but if they would just make the body a little smaller, more balanced with the neck . I wrote to them about their price. They said they have to charge that much if they want to continue making them in the USA. That's too bad.
I love the more banjo-ey sound of this one! I will have to check it out :)))

Howdy, Bob. I’m so happy I could help!

Thank you so much! Those Beansprout banjoleles are so beautiful 😍
Love this. Thank you for a great review. You answered all the questions I had and I'm going to order one.

Thank you. I will have to look up that song. I think the Oscar Schmidt model is very similar to the Kmise. I love mine too. ❤️

Paul K you are going to have such fun with this! I bet a lot of your banjo skills will transfer nicely to banjolele. 🎶
You could play 5 Foot Two and They're Red HOt (Hot Tamales). Rocky Top would be good too.
Thanks! Those are great suggestions. ❤️

Mr. Keebler haha. That’s probably why it fits the case so well!
GirlMeetsUke the best cases that I have found on the net are the padded grey Córdoba cases for $30.

Here is a video of a good banjolele instructions. It’s called Banjo-Uke Tips and Tricks.by Jeffrey Klein
How do you string it? What strings do you reccomend? Trying to make mine left handed 😳
I want one
Hi Jody! Is there a way to put a strap on it?
How much does the schmit weigh please thank you ❓
Five foot two Is real fun
Yes it is! I’ll give it a shot 😉
Can you use standard concert nylon ukulele strings for this?
Yes, you can. 😊
I forgot to ask, where is yours made, China?
Yes, made in China.
you need to play it

Yep, you are always going to pay more for instruments made in the USA. It is also my experience that they tend to have higher quality control too.
I have one on eBay right now for $250.00 with gig bag , its a bargain !
Do they have nylon strings
Yes, they do.
GirlMeetsUke Thank you for your reply
Could you possible make this video without the incessant "Ums" and "Ahs" that drive the listener crazy?
You are welcome to stop watching anytime 😉
you should deffinetly try The Rainbow Connection on the banjolele!
Great idea!
