  • Unbeknownst to most, the Bulova Lunar Pilot has been to space, and was in fact a personal backup watch for Apollo 15's mission commander David Scott. In 2021, Bulova celebrated their 50th anniversary with a limited edition Archive Series Lunar Pilot. In 2023, this model received a facelift.
    -------------------------------
    View on Bulova's website: au.bulova.com/...
    -------------------------------
The revised Lunar Pilot sports two colour schemes: a panda version with blue sub-dials, and a black version. Both versions include matching 3-link bracelets with alternating brushed and polished surfaces, and also come with their own distinct strap as part of the package. The black gets a black leather “NATO-style” version, and the two-tone receives a blue one, and they feature latched springbars for easy swapping. The new version keeps the softly rounded contours and proportions of that first edition, but in a more wearable size at 43.5mm in diameter and 13.21 for the case height.

It may not have been NASA approved but I bet when the captain of the mission looked down at his speed master to see the acrylic glass had popped off he breathed a massive sigh of relief as he reached into his bag to pull out his personal backup. A bulova lunar pilot. 😂

I have two (2) of the original 45 mm (leather band + nato and bracelet versions) and I just ordered the Snoopy 43 mm version (should arrive in the next weeks). Amazing watch for the money. I don't believe they should make a mechanical or automatic version of this watch! Omega can only dream of having such a movement!

Never mechanical. Offer it with electrostatic movements. That tuning fork is not just a gimmick, it stands for precision, and the NP20 movement is the pinnacle of accuracy for a non gps paired timepiece. Very nice watch.

    • @Silversmok3

The movement isn’t a typical quartz chrono. It’s a Bulova/Citizen 262khz high precision quartz movement accurate to 10 seconds or so a year. Three crystals instead of one in a typical quartz movement. Which makes for a big movement. That’s why the first Lunar Pilot release was 45mm

The original Bulova Lunar Pilot watch was mechanical; this is not. So it's not any more "legit" than calling the MoonSwatch a "legit" Omega Speedmaster Professional moonwatch.

I don't think so. Remember that Bulova considers the Lunar Pilot's main competition to be the Omega Speedmaster Professional, the watch it was originally trying to replace as NASA's chronograph of choice. If they'd put out a mechanical chronograph movement that met the same standard of accuracy as the current Speedy Pro, it'd wind up costing in the same category as the Speedy Pro, and that's not really a market level Bulova's competitive in. Far better from a marketing standpoint to showcase a signature high-frequency quartz movement and go for a market segment that has more potential buyers due to a lower cost.
