    In subway escalators in Buenos Aires (Argentina) we've started doing the thing of standing on the right and leaving the left side free for those who want to walk through it. It's not super widespread, but I've seen enough people doing it and I think it's quite practical!

    Alan deserves points not a klaxon for saying lobsters walk. "They do mostly walk but they do swim occasionally."
    Also it is my understanding that lobsters' handedness changes over their life time. They might start with one claw being dominant, but then they lose the claw and grow a new one. Meanwhile the claw they have left becomes their dominant claw, until they lose that one, etc.

    There's evidence that quivers were worn on the hip, the back, the thigh, or even just held in the hand. It was down to individual preference. Some modern archers just leave their arrows in the ground and pluck them out as they need them.
    Also, arrows can (and were) fired from either side of the bow. In fact, different fletchings are preferred for one side or the other. There's no correct side of the bow, no correct fingering position, and no correct quiver position.

    • @TheGreyAreaBetween
      @TheGreyAreaBetween Год назад +2

      There's a study that shows a massive link between lead and violence. Violent crimes have been falling since unleaded fuels came into play in the majority of countries. Algeria, Iraq, Yemen, Myanmar, North Korea and Afghanistan are (I believe) the only countries still using leaded fuels. There's a lot to blame Thomas Midgley, Jr. for, from developing the tetraethyl lead additive to fuel, to Freon - chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's).

    • @typacsk

      @@TheGreyAreaBetween Was Midgley the one who ended up paralyzed because of playing with the wrong chemicals, and invented a "getting-out-of-bed-device" that ended up killing him?

    • @TheGreyAreaBetween
      @TheGreyAreaBetween Год назад +1

      @@typacsk Yes indeed. I had forgotten this for a while so thanks for reminding me of it. He contracted and was paralysed by polio at the age of 51, something which usually only tends to occur in children aged 5 and under. Whether or not his creations are linked to his late contraction of polio are debated, but it is certain that his rope and pulley system, designed by him to enable others to easily lift and move him, was the cause of his accidental death by strangulation.
      To quote Bill Bryson from his book - A short history of nearly everything;
      "With an instinct for the regrettable that was almost uncanny, Midgley invented chlorofluorocarbon CFC that is eating our ozone layer in the stratosphere and tetraethyl lead that spread devastation to human health by killing millions from lead contamination and increasing the lead content in our bones and blood 650 times the normal dose."
      If you've had the joy of reading Sir Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, you might draw comparisons between Midgley Jr. and B. S. Johnson, though Midgley Jr. certainly contributed to more hige issues than any fictional character.
