Want a straight-to-the-point Eric Clapton guitar lesson that’ll get you playing like the legend himself right away?! You’ve come to the right video!
This short and sweet lesson gets right to the meat of how the great Eric Clapton got his sound based on the notes he often played.
Speaking of his sound, we’ll also talk a bit about how he got his famous “Woman Tone”!
This Eric Clapton lesson brings together the essence of his lead guitar playing and condenses it into a SUPER SCALE that I like to call the “Claptatonic Scale”.
I will show you this scale, and of course break down some badass Clapton-esque licks to go along with it. This wouldn’t be a proper Eric Clapton guitar lesson without some licks!
Once you learn everything I show you in the lesson, you’ll be able to instantly apply it to your own playing, while leaving plenty of room for you to add your own flair to them and even play them in different musical keys!

I don't like to think of it as a scale. I like to think of it as having your chord tones 1, 3 and 5. Then your "colour" notes b3, b7, b5, 6 and 9. Much easier to conceptualize that way.

Been doing that for years, but don't know theory. I just pick notes that sound good to my ear. I've been studying it a bit in recent years though. Thanks for this lesson. Clapton has always been one of my favorite.

I never apply theory or even reference to them . I just know my patterns and do the rest by feel and ear . This allows me to learn songs on the fly ..

Thanks, Eddie! just beginning to work o lead licks. Been a rhythm guitarist for years, and began comping only recently. Now that the speed licks don't seem so fast, I want to move into lead licks to augment my accompaniment of my own vocals. At 83, I have no dreams of becoming a rock star, of anything like that, but sure derive great pleasure in continuing improvement of my guitar playing abilities. This lesson is the greatest, and came at the right time in my learning growth process.

Hernan! I highly recommend Guitar Mastery Method! I've been a member for several years. I've been a VIP member for the last couple years. I've been playing for over 30 years, but Eddie, Charlie and the rest of the instructors really break things down so even beginners and intermediate players can get a handle on the guitar. There is something for every level of player. They have courses for just about any kind of music there is. Theres an entire course on Texas Blues Mastery, Country Guitar Mastery, one on Classic Rock Mastery and a ton of stuff that can be applied to just about any style! The Guitar 101 Course starts at the very beginning with all the nuts and bolts you need to lay a foundation for your playing. VIP is definitely the best deal because you get access to every course Guitar Mastery Method has. It's only $27.00 per month. They might actually have a deal for new subscribers. Not only do you get all the courses, there is also a VIP community on Facebook. If you ever have a guitar related question, I can almost guarantee there will be a member that can answer it for you. There is also monthly live lessons with one of the Guitar Mastery Method Instructors. They usually last 1-2 hours. You also have access to every live lesson from the past. I'm JW Bird in the Guitar Mastery Method Facebook page and in the Guitar Mastery Method VIP Facebook page. If I can ever be of help, give me a shout!

I call those “blue notes” major scale notes. So if I’m soloing over D, those notes are in the D major scale and so I can use them at any time, along side of the D pentatonic. It just make more sense in my mind to think of them that way. I simplify music for myself, and just think of it as “shapes in succession” they start in different places depending on the key, and they sometimes overlay each other, but it’s always shapes in succession.

Any reason why you did not use the same notes in the lower tone range ? Example you played the note D, F on the low E string but played D,E,F on the high E string. You did the same ting on other strings but I wanted to keep the example simple within my question

Don't think in terms of scales, or pentatonic patterns, listen to the chords, follow the emotive storyline of the lyrics, use the entire fretboard vertically and horizontally, liberate yourself from the dreary mathematics of scale patterns and play music.

It is a minor pentatonic scale pattern known as box one or the G pattern in the CAGED system. Also know as position one. But, he is adding notes as he explains in the video. If I am not mistaken, the BB box is primarily
the G,B,A strings in the second box known as box 2, position 2, or the A pattern.
