Yep... Way back in high school my brother and I made a little RPG, based on a comic we created. The game was heavily inspired by both Phantasy Star and Chrono Trigger... Also Dune and some Star Wars lol. We worked hard to have it look more like Guilty Gear (first game).
I havent played this since like 2/3Rds of my life ago. Do you really lose Alys mid game? I thought you lose her at more like the first quarter of the game.
Chaz is the best character in the game with the best weapon in the game. Hahn is very useful. he's the most important character for Combo attacks. If you don't pick Raja he's the 2nd best choice. Kyra is good, but Raja is just objectively better. You can use items with spells for ST with Raja, or his skills if you're going to replenish near an inn Wren > Chaz > Rika > Raja
I would swap Kyra and Rune. Kyra has availability issues as well as the natural limitations of Slicers in Phantasy Star. Rune will do the heavy lifting for damage before Chaz gets Megid, not to mention Rune will actually be your sturdiest party member before Chaz gets his best sword.
If you do hack in Alys in the final battles, I would put her above Demi and Gryz. Demi gets smoked by MNT damage and doesn't have the HP to make up for it unlike Wren. Gryz has similar issues (higher MNT but lower HP makes him functionally as vulnerable). ...but at least you're consistent with the Alyses, Neis, and Aeriths of the JRPG world. Also Rune should be a bit higher because double shields removes 95% of his squishiness and the Grandcross combo (Rune's Efess and Chaz's Crosscut) wrecks anything not immune to light (or whatever Efess' element is). I'd almost say that should put him above Hahn, but then again Hahn could go double-shield as well and he and Chaz can combine Astral and Rayblade to get the Paladinblow combo (about the same damage as Grandcross, but only single target and a different element). ...never mind...Rune should be above Kyra as another comment mentioned, as both Kyra AND Hahn have availability issues.
Rune is consistently the highest magical damage dealer, since he can wipe all dungeons with GRA and HEWN and FLAELI/NEGATIS etc and still have enough TP and skills to fight bosses, your party greatly benefits from doing 1 round random encounters arriving fresh for the bosses. Rika is S-tiers on the condition you keep her silver tusk because if her atk isn't holy against the profound darkness, she lags behind in terms of damages Finally Wren end game is a low S tier, under Chaz Rika Rune easily, he doesn't deal that much dmg and needs a separate action to be healed, without his BARRIER he would fall very low in the ranking. Speedrunners use him as a healing tanker.
@@Stefanswiss That’s fair. Wren’s damage output is often overrated. Even Posibolt lags compared to Megid, Elsydeon’d Crosscuts against anything weak to light, Legeon, Efess, and like you said, Silver Tusk’d Doubleslashes.
@@Stefanswiss I couldn't agree more. Although Wren is S-tier for a first play through when people don't know the ins and outs of the game. He appears to be strong with him resisting most attacks thanks to his HP yet he doesn't deal much damage and under the hands of a pro player he is pretty much a healing device throwing starmists at the team. There is also no saying otherwise : skills and TP are better used for atk than defense. Having a 1turn random encounter where hewn and regular pulsevulcan wipe out all the ennemies is 10 times better than having 4 turns random encounter with everyone simple atk and the spend 26TP or more on GISAR or other healing
Whenever I'm playing the game, and Rune is there, for some reason I forget about him. Yet he's the one that always decimates things and tanks any type of elemental projectile like a champion, especially when you put 2 shields on him. When a nuke drops he lives or is unscathed, yet I end forgetting that "detail" So I'm gonna say.... Demi of course.
Just a little lore thing (though it's no big deal and I get how people get confused), but Alys isn't actually the protagonist from Phantasy Star 1. The Phantasy Star 4 character only shows up there and is named Alys Brangwin, while the Phantasy Sar 1 character is named Alis Landale.
