EXCELLA: is the best character in the game and thus not optional for a majority of your playthrough for the simple fact that her gravity ability allows you speedrun fights and thus speedrun the game (which i am the only person to have done) , so with this being the case of course the rest of her abilities need to be relatively weak to balance her , but she's not completely without other utilities LESTIN: so you're going to say he can do everything , and just gloss over at how important and fun it can be to actually be able to do everything and still say he's bad? clearly you've never felt the badass joy of figuring out what attacks you can reliably counter with him , or how long his normal attack combo can lock a boss in hitstun , or have him repeatedly dash across the stage like a maniac using his break attack to interupt mutliple enemies/bosses while trying to get the timing right to avoid being hit by their own attacks XD SONIA: terrible ai? brony do you even bond system?? do you even know how to unlock dragon maid???..... MARION: i disagree that she is top tier , but maybe i just don't know about this cancle second attack to spam the first 2 shots thing you mentioned? (also your dmg on the dark dragon boss was insane lol and just look at your monster health bar , clearly you're x2 the level you should have been for that fight XD) RINNA: along with excella , is the only other god tier character , i don't know how you could literally go over every character in the gam , and neglect to mention the 2 things rina can do that the others cannot , that being have early access to every element (except lightning , gotta give sonia a bone) so she's capable of devastating the enemies with the x2 dmg , but more importantly , having an ability to replnish her mana at a rapid pace , making her the only inifnite dps+heal i can't tell you the number of times i've gotten to under 5% boss health and got wipped except for rina , and scrambled fleeing looking for that 1 break in the boss's attacks that i can use to get her mana back to do it again to get a party member res'd to do it again to get a heal on them so they can buy me a bit of time so i can do it again to get another res off to do it again so i can heal them too to do it again so i can replenish rina's now delpleted mana to do it agian so i can finally have my party back in formation to continue the battle , really intense fun stuff
I would like to say that for the record I did play this game but I only went for getting the girl's endings and the final optimal team was basically my end game team with the exception of I don't remember who I had in the final 2 slots but I definitely remember I had Mr. Boring who would not shut up about the dragon and blonde hot elf babe. That being said now that I'm going through the first shining Force game, I finally understand why a lot of people didn't like where the series goes after the first 3 shining Force games..... Dear God there are so many just normal humans hot elf girls and maybe a cat girl somewhere and that's pretty much it, None of the races from the 3 OG shining force games ever come back except MAYBE Shining Force Neo aka HOT STUFF COMING YOUR WAY lol. Still this was a weird video to come across but I do appreciate at least someone going in depth about the characters and I do agree Rinna is also a favorite of mine.
Wow perfect timing as I just finished the game on the switch. Honestly not a bad game I like the combat when I figured out the hang of it but not something too crazy good. It was alright but so much hand waving "then everyone is alright" type stuff. Needed better teleport system and fast travel and a team wide exp gains as I got bricked for making the two guys need to grind for one specific part of the game. Yumi with the speed tune is absolutely necessary he's so slow without it. I just use the first 4 party members Sophie is my favorite in design next to kirika. Marion was interesting to see how her situation went and kinda funny she outed herself at liking Yuma while thinking she was her brother.
shining does have an exp share item (though i have yet to aquire it) you got bricked? the lestin and agnum fight is beatable without leveling either of those characters , i've made a video where i do this
that's because sonia is a tricky skill based character you have to know how to have her equipped right to utilize her strengths meanwhile rinna is literally the embodiment of "HAHA BIG MAGIC GO BURRRRRRRRRRRRRR XD"

Fun fact excluding the arcade games every Shining game that came out between Shining Wind and Shining Resonace has been a strategy RPG similar to Shining Force or Valkyria Chronicles...but Shining Force fans have been to busy crying about action RPGs since Shining Wisdom on the Sega Saturn to notice. Honestly you can't even say it's just action RPGs because back in the day they were mad about Shining The Holy Ark "straying from the franchises roots". The curse of having a phenomenal memory is Being annoyed at 27 year old internet form arguments lol.
To be fair...pretty sure none of those srpg Shining games came to the west officially so unless people can find a fan sub their complaints are somewhat valid if you're a western fan that can't/don't have the time to learn Japanese and couldn't find a fan sub for it (and are willing to download it too and your computer can run it fine...most people's probably can by now except maybe mine as mine's an old 10 year piece of shit i need to replace once I get some extra cash for it...streaming or even watching recorded videos over 480p causes my computer to crash nowadays so for the most part unless it's a very old style pixel game i can't really run much on it...even something like Trails in the Sky/Crossbell games has some stuttering or crashing issues and they're just as old if not older than my comptuer).
I've made this observation before but, geez, you really do tackle some pretty niche stuff. Never thought I'd ever see "Shining Resonance Refrain" again in nearly any capacity. Well, outside of maybe when I watch some "Blade Arcus Rebellion from Shining" matches but even then, there's barely any for that game either. Not that I'm complaining though, it's definitely appreciated and refreshing in a way. There are so many games out there that are largely just ignored for the same couple big name IPs. Heck, even when they are rarely brought up, they tend to just be hated and ridiculed for one reason or another.

I have to disagree here Marion is the strongest character in the whole game by far, she does ridiculous dmg ridiculously fast from a safe distance, sure she only does dmg but who needs support or healing when she wipes the whole battle in 5 seconds I paired her up with Excella for her CC and enemies had no idea what happened to them Yuma is really weak as a protagonist imo, he was a dead weight most of the time for me

@@AkumaItachi there must be something missing here then , cause while her level is good upon getting her , so she's able to preform well vs the next boss being the first biatrice fight , after that however she was almost unsuable without keeping her level ahead of the rest of my party due to her fragile def and hp , excella's gravity well doesn't help at all with it's massive endlag and when it by nessecity brings the second zest fight within striking range of her usually comboing into a 1hit kill , and/or he will just use his dark bullet attack to target me controlling marion to take me out anyways v_v"....
Been a long while since I last played the game (more or less on its launch) but i do remember making Agnum even more broken than the MC (non dragon form obviously) with the right song (or something to do with the song) and accessory/equipment setup where, if I remember right, he could charge up his attacks/absorbed damage to boost attacks that wound up letting him do the most physical damage in the game with his attacks...would need to throw it back into my switch to see the setup (as long as I didn't overwrite said save anyway). Crazy thing is since I didn't use him much until the mandatory fight with him and blue spear guy he's a good 20+ levels lower than MC as well and still out damaging him due to this setup lol. In fact I found with the right artifacts, just like in many of the recent Tales games, you can make your characters do stupid amounts of damage (think of Alpen's damage in Tales of Arise with the elemental attack main stat or penetration +80% with 4 +15% Fire damage where the damage of his flame edge artes when using up your HP when at max HP to 1HP. where it winds up wiping out half or more of a boss's HP even on higher difficulties). My favorite character was Rinna though and wound up being my partner choice for that run...should get around to replaying the game again someday to see other endings. I did not play Refrain mode though so I can't really comment how the Refrain only characters felt to play.
jinas feels wild to play due to his break attack being an instant teleport to the target enemy that is also a spin attack , so if you target and time it right you can literally "nothing personal kid" the entire enemy group interupting them to allow your party to followup , plus his normal attack is the only one other than rinna's that has a high jump allowing you to have a chance to evade attacks meanwhile princess excella looks like a tank in her armor and feels like one to controll as well lol
I played the original, mk2, and V. In all 3 black heart was the best. In the original she just had the highest attack stats, and in mk2 and V, IIRC, her attack stats were still high, but she also did this armor ignore, or defense ignore, or resistance ignore thing that really made hers the best. IIRC Green heart had good speed and spell damage, but if enemies had the correct resistances, it couldn't keep up with Black heart's consistently high output. Is it still like that in the newer games or not?
Finished the video, but no, I never even played the game. Your video kinda made me decide not to for sure too lol. The only thing about the game that remotely tempted me to try it is I love Excella's design with her armor on, and you up and go call her dung-tier. doh.. oh well.
