What is your favourite GPS navigation app? I should also mention that the MemoryMaps Purchases are valid on multiple platforms and devices. "The license is for a single person and can be activated on up to 5 devices (any combination of PC, laptop, phone or tablet). Sharing a license with other people is not permitted."
Currently we just use a garmin car GPS. We may give this one a try, we were thinking of the Hema unit before I saw this, now we have to decide. But since we own a few apple devices it makes this one a bit more attractive
@@marklaurendet1861 personally I would always take a multi-purpose device like a Tablet with millions of development $ behind it over a single purpose device like a hema.
I’ve been using Hema 4WD Maps with full offline map files on iPads and iPhone (as a backup) for >5 years in WA. I like to plan and pre-digitise my tracks from satellite imagery before remote trips, and upload to the device. Then I follow my tracks, logging the actual route as I go, and clean up my data at the end of the trip. With recent iOS updates I can no longer import GPX tracks to Hema 4WD Maps. So I might switch over to MMFE when I start planning my next trip. MMFE seems to have improved significantly since I last checked the market. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work Stefan.
Hot tip re dealing with lawyers from a friend who is in the mix. When she gets something from the other parties lawyer she uses chat gpt to write a response and then gives that to her lawyer to read over. Takes a few minutes and has saved her many hours of lawyer fees. Cheers Steve
Thanks Stefan for a great overview. MM and more recently MMfa have been my go-to for 14 years. The page confiurability also allows you to have map-in-map so you can display both high and low scale maps on the one page. Great for detailed navigation whilst also providing an overview. Also, I've only required tech support once (user error) and they were first class.
First class Stefan! Very detailed products review and tutorial. As a novice to 4x4 I prefer the Garmin Overlander as more simple to use from a non tech perspective backed up by paper maps! Appreciate your videos mate, you have definitely taught me things in your vids.
Thanks Stefan another ripper video. I downloaded "Memory maps for All" played with it for the 10 days trial that was it, I was hooked used your purchase link and now I have the Hema 4wd Map Pack, on a few of my devices including my lap top. I will be purchacing some of the Topo maps as well. Safe travels.
I've been running Memory Maps for the past 10 years. It's been bulletproof that entire time. Memory Map for all is great been running it for the past year and it's been brilliant. I run trips monthly for a large NSW 4wd club, and it's always done what it says on the box. Brilliant
After hema explorer became abandoned and forced to purchase a yearly subscription I went back to memory map. Somewhat complex to set up pages and layers due to the flexibility , but rock solid. As you say full map download ability is a must have
Thanks Stefan that video was a great help! After years of HEMA Map App and HX1 use which is now failing me for the type of remote travelling we do, after watching your video, convinced me MM 4 All with the packs and pro subscription was the way to go. Hopefully I've downloaded all maps & everything correctly (however I forgot about the discount code 🥺) and now to move across much of my HEMA marks/tracks etc. Thanks once again, great help for sure!🙂
Thanks again. I've just moved from Memory Maps to Memory-Maps for all. One thing that's missing is the ability to Split Screen with other apps. This is handy for monitoring battery status with Victron.
@@AlloffroadAu I ended up getting the answer. Split screen is enabled in Settings > Display Options > turn off Full Screen. Works well and saves me having a second device
I have been using memory maps for around 14 years and memory maps for all around a year or twoI have all the hema and topo maps I love it by far the best gps app
Great video. Traveling at the moment and based on your videos I have an iPad to display MM4A as I travel. It's been very helpful and often is more informative than things like Google Maps. Traveled the Barkly Hwy from Three Ways on the Stuart Hwy today and great to see overall progress. I use your distance circle idea from the last video. Some great tips in this video too, I like the elevation profile based on creating a route, will be using that.
Great video but being new to these advanced map apps 80% of your content was over my head. I just downloaded MMFA for a look see and was immediately stumped with zooming into my particular places of interest. I could only zoom down to about 2Klm but as soon as I lifted my fingers it would spring back to maybe 5Klms. I would like to get in even closer than 1 or 2 klms, am I doing something wrong or is that a limitation of the maps? For instance, on Google maps I can zoom right down to 10 Mtrs without issue albeit with less content/detail than MMFA.
yep, raster maps, unlike vector maps, can't change scale, so you would need to choose, for instance, a 25k topo map if you want to zoom in closer. Both have pros and cons vector maps are better if you zoom in but bad for overview as they loose most detail raster maps you have different scales and the content which is displayed on the map wont change
@AlloffroadAu that sucks. I really liked being able to use Satellite view on the other hema explorer app. Trying to find a new hema app because hema turned off the cloud for hema explorer.
I am looking for an offroad map for my ATV (side x side) for only Tasmania. Can I just buy the Tassie topo maps as a standalone map or do I need the 4wd map pack as well. Can I sync maps on 2 or 3 devices and my laptop without cloud purchases. I am using Gaia at the moment, but the detail isn't as good as I would like
G'day Stefan, I just bought memory maps and watching this video a quick questions maybe i missed it but how do you set the map for each page and lock it to that page?
Looks interesting, but with a bit of a learning curve. How many devices can does the purchase cover. Can you download and use on all apple devices under the same person, apple ID ?
basic functionality is very easy, especially if you use other apps; advanced stuff sometimes needs the manual. "Unless otherwise stated in the product description, all maps are licensed for a Single User, on multiple devices. That means you can install the maps on all your devices, Windows PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. You can not give a copy to a friend or colleague."
Unrelated, Louis Rossmann on his channel found an aussie government site with a back up of DCS site which shows they changed their TOS, but lied about it by not changing the date it was ammended, trying to make someone look like they are wrong.
Trying to buy 4WD map pack. Your link doesn’t go to the map pack but I need to sign in to memory maps. I do that and cannot see a 4 we map pack? Does it have a different name?
It's been a few months now since you've done this review, do you still recommend Memory-Maps to be the best for on an iPad? I'm ready to replace my HX-1 which hasn't really impressed me with its performance, considering how much it cost when I bought it new 4-5yrs ago. This time I'll get myself an iPad w/Cellular and load the maps into it.
I have 128 and would recommend that as minimum unless you only want to run memory maps and no other software then you may get away with 64 but I would not recommend it
@@AlloffroadAuhow do seperate gps units like Aerpro - AMHXD3 work? Are they able to be used with a non sim iPad to enable gps or they don’t work like that? Thanks Stefan
memory maps stopped offering 25k maps for Tasmania a while back, which is probably a good thing because the maps they were offering must be nearly 40 years old and I find in most areas the tracks shown no longer exist and that there's logging superhighways all the areas that show no tracks. I wish they'd figure out a new 25k map cos I'd like to keep using memory maps but I'm getting sick of persevering with the old ones

How often does MMfA offer new maps? Eventually Topo maps and the like will need a refresh
good question I think TOP updates are offered whenever they come out, Hema same but I find especially remotely not much changes often so
I use Gaia, mostly because they use vector based maps and you can fit hundreds on a tablet due to their small size.
