For me, this is THE coaster that comes to mind when you say "Classic Looping Coaster". Also, I´m a huge fan of super compact layouts. It just tickles my brain to see how much track they managed to put into that small footprint.
My first Schwarzkopf looper. I thought the loop was intense, but it was over too quickly, and the helix at the end was equally as enjoyable in my opinion (especially with that head chopper).
My first inversion was on the mentioned Schwarzkopf Looping Star model (Thunder Loop at Slagharen, now defunct). Those single loop Schwarzkopfs are fun rides.

Canobie Coaster would say: When Scorpion originally opened, it was one of the earliest looping coasters out there. Now it is overshadowed by the larger thrill coasters. For much of its life, Scorpion operated with a low 42 inch height requirement. This made it the perfect first looping coaster for kids. But there was an incident in 2023 where a young kid started to slide beneath the lap bar, causing the park to raise the minimum height limit to 48 inches. While the ride is still a great choice for someone's first looping coaster, young kids now have to wait an extra year or two before they're tall enough to ride it. If I ask you, did you like the changes in the height requirement, or do you wish...?

Pretty fun, but really janky. When I rode it, I had to wait and extra 5 or so minutes because the train did not align correctly with the station and lift hill, which kind of freaked me out. I really like how forceful the loop is. Because it was my first Schwarzkopf, I wasn't expecting the loop to make me lunge forward. I think this is a great first looping coaster for kids.
I have ridden silver bullet at Frontier City which was the looping star model mentioned in the video, and I will say that this happens from time to time. Due to the chain lift extending all the way to the back of the station and the fact that the lift motor can't reverse, if the train goes too far forward in the station, it can't be simply reversed like other coasters, so it has to do another cycle in order for the operator to realign. It's not something to be necessarily concerned about, it just means that the ride operator likely didn't brake hard enough to stop the train in time.
I’m genuinely sad they’re removing this ride, it’s probably reached its end of service life, but this was an awesome ride. It had great pacing and great forces, I preferred it to sheikra because of the pacing and sustained g force. I’ll miss scorpion definitely, and can only hope they get a worthy replacement
It's a fun ride and provides some nice variety compared to the more modern coasters at the park. I'll hop on if I see that I can get on the next train out. It's not uncommon for me to see it like that on school days, at least one of the times that I'm passing by it.
See in RCDB: Scorpion at Busch Gardens Tampa Batman the Ride at Six Flags Great Adventure Joker's Jinx at Six Flags America Black Mamba at Phantasialand Blue Tornado at Gardaland How would you compare between those five coasters in terms of smoothness, pacing, forces, and intensity?
So what would you rate Scorpion at Busch Gardens Tampa? How would you compare it to, for example, a defunct indoor coaster that was also built by Schwarzkopf?
See in RCDB, but do you know something in the world named Toxic Garden? Do you know the name it had? And based on how it currently runs, how would you compare it to Scorpion at Busch Gardens Tampa?
I almost lost mine they flew off during the loop and the forces kinda made them stick to my torso so i just grabbed them and enjoyed the rest of the ride 😭
It was my first looping coaster, but I can't help but want Scorpion to be removed because it just doesn't fit in with the rest of the park. Also, Pantopia needs a major overhaul with more theming and especially landscaping.
You say Scorpion is not themed. I think I disagree. The ground under the coaster is filled with sand, evoking the impression of a dessert which is where you might find scorpions living. I rode this several years ago. I forget the year, but Shiekra was the big new coaster and Jungala had already replaced Python. We also rode Rhino Rally with the river section working. I found Scorpion very intense and very smooth. A coaster with a similar layout and intensity was Lazer at Dorney Park, but that one had two loops. We had an installation of the looping star model at AstroWorld called Viper. I rode that many times. It was also very smooth but not as intense as Scorpion or Lazer. Next to Viper for a few seasons stood Texas Tornado (formerly the legendary Thriller from Germany.) Another intense Schwarzkopf. I loved how the portable Thriller towered over the "permanently" installed Viper. My other Schwarzkopf credits are: Shock Wave; Mind Bender; Revolution; Sooper Dooper Looper; Greezed Lightnin'; and Montezooma's Revenge. None of them were even close to being rough. I got to see Big Bend in person many times but the year I finally decided to take a ride... we arrived at the park to find it gone.
Canobie Coaster would say: In terms of pacing, this coaster is pretty good as there isn't much dead space on this ride. Then in terms of smoothness, this ride has aged gracefully. You may get some light side-to-side shuffling on the directional changes, but the whole ride mostly tracks well. This is inline with a lot of other Schwarzkopfs. They aged... A) worse than the competitions looping coasters at the time. B) similarly to the competitions looping coasters at the time. C) better than the competitions looping coasters at the time.
Next time you ride it try not pulling the lap-bar "or try not letting the ride operators pushing it down all the way" and you'll see and feel that you are STAPLED in that loop the whole time. The way that loop is designed is almost a full circle opposed to any other manufacturers design. And not too many other coasters have a triple helix. Just sayin'. Hope everyone is having an awesome day!
I rode this coaster two days ago and will NEVER ride it again. It was an extremely rough ride that gave me a headache. Also, I'm 6’4, and my knees touched the seat in front of me. If you're tall, this is not the ride for you.

It is a great loop.
Man this was my first inverting coaster I rode about 20 years ago. So many memories.
Nice!
Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Are you sure you want to completely demolish Looping Coaster 1?
NO PLEASE NO
RIP Scorpion
Posting this at 8:33 on September 2, 2024. Scorpion is officially closed. Goodbye Scorpion.🦂
Edit: So I never realized they extended the closure…
It's nice how people have a few extra days to get their last rides now.
I love this little coaster
Me too.
That helix is one of the most intense elements in the park!
It has good Gs.
Now that I'm thinking about it most of BGTs coasters are intense
My first inversion was on the mentioned Schwarzkopf Looping Star model (Thunder Loop at Slagharen, now defunct). Those single loop Schwarzkopfs are fun rides.
Nice!
i only rode this in 2011 but i loved it so much then. it was a nice compliment to the park's standouts
It's a nice ride.
This ride is definitely a perfect change of pace for the park it’s in
I agree.
This was my first upside down coaster. Even when I got tall enough for Montu and Kumba, I still liked going on this one.
It will be missed.
I’ve waited 45 minutes in the quick queue line for this coaster before. So it’s one train can be a problem on slower days 😢
I've never seen quick queue that backed up for it.

Easy for young kids to ride.
Its a great first looping coaster. We rode during our last trip on 3/1
I was there that day too.
I’m surprised this coaster doesn’t have a giant scorpion statue
Well It was made in the 70s so I don’t have high expectations for theming
@@CoasterHeadhe was being sarcastic
That would be cool.

It's solid.
This ride is sadly closing in 9 days from now on September 2nd, may this ride rest in peace.

It used to be Limit. Scorpion is a far better ride.
I lost my glasses on this ride, and i lost it in the station… I wasn’t even on the ride yet and it fell in the gap in the track in the station
Oh no!
I almost lost mine they flew off during the loop and the forces kinda made them stick to my torso so i just grabbed them and enjoyed the rest of the ride 😭
One time i visited in 2008 the back cart was backwards and it only lasted a week lol
Didn't know this ran backwards, sounds cool!
I've yet to ride scorpion. I've always overlooked it when I've gone to BGT
Worth checking out.
BGT series coming soon?
I already made most of the videos for that park that I want to at this time. I made reviews and countdowns in 2022 that still hold up.

Not even by the same manufacturer and scorpion is 30 years older
I say it’s a mini sheikra due to the colors so it’s essentially sheikra but for kids
I find it comfortable. Are you tall?
I like scorpion but its pretty janky.
