    Thank you Meca.....this helped me and my son fix the roof on his old mustang. Saved him a ton of money. Its not an easy job but its doable if you take your time and follow your video. We referenced it many times during the install. Couldn't have done it without you man! God bless you!

    Thank you so much for doing this video. After watching, I felt comfortable about tackling my own top and it didn't turn out bad.. Only difference in my top and yours is that it had guide holes at the bottom instead of a chalk line. Thank you again amigo!!

    Thank you Meca! Good video! I was able to help my son put a new top on his mustang. I would not have been able to do it without your direction. You are an experienced professional and you covered every possibility step by step and I appreciated your kind and encouraging attitude - you really encouraged me that we could get this job done. I have done many mechanical jobs but never anything like this - it was a little intimidating even for me and I don’t know that I old have tried it unless I had your EXCELLENT video to reference, I watched it several times and referenced it during the install. Muchas Gracias my friend!

    This is a really informative video, thanks for going to all the trouble putting this together in great detail, it made self installation rather painless. Only thing I would add, or make clear, when it comes to stapling the back you NEED to have a pneumatic stapler. A regular hand popping stapler will not drive those staples home. So make sure you have an air setup or can borrow one.

    Excellent video! After watching it a couple of times, and following along with it as I worked, I was able to successfully replace the top on my 2013 Mustang. Mine is the later 2013 model, so has the shorter tension wires. Also my top had the guide holes and was not marked. This video turned what I thought was going to be a nightmare, into a great learning experience. Keep up the great work amigo!

    Thank you! I done this myself in my front yard took me nearly 12 hours honestly about 4 hour of that time was riding around looking for the right tools toget it done. Secondly i was taking breaks like a madman. Got it done. My top looks crispy and clean follow this too a tee. Was very frustrating in the beginning but things started to come together lightning fast towards the end.
    Advice for anyone doing this. This lighting in this video isnt ideal.
    Do it in the day time that way you can see and record.
    Please use a pnuematic stapler.
    Buy a cheap magnetic bowl for the screws.
    If you are unsure about anything. Before you take it apart please prop up your phone & record it.

Completing each task in order, replaying the video to make sure it was right. We had some frustration and took your advice to get some water and a different mentality. I love the video and we had fun doing the work. It was a huge challenge and we got it done, but only because of your video. It looks great, I owe you. I checked the other one I have it looks like I do have to pry on each side? I have a factory manual that shows the screws or bolts. Those two pieces where all the screws came from must separate from each other?

    Hi meca, I greatly appreciate your video. I was trying to decide if this job was a task that I could take on my own and your video has shown me that I am not prepared to do so, I could invest in some of the tools I don’t currently have but I do not have the work space for this kind of job and I would hate to get stuck in the middle with no garage to safely leave my car parked in. My question is what’s a fair price to pay a garage for the labor on a job like this, especially if I provided my own replacement top? I’m in NYC if that matters at all.

    Sorry I have a second question. I have now bought a top to fit after watching your video. My top at the back, under the rear window is in 2 parts, the outer vinyl and a second black piece. the outer vinyl has the guide line, but the black inner piece does not. I can see your 2 pieces are already stapled together, the outer vinyl to the inner liner. Did you staple this first? or is it because my top is a different brand? Is there an easy way for me to get them stapled together in the correct place before fitting to the car? You can see the area I mean at 55 minutes into your video. Thank you

    Hafa Adai Meca, Thank you for sharing your expertise. Much Appreciated. However, I have encountered another problem that perhaps you maybe able to assist or render your professional advise. I believe the pump went out on the convertible top and for years of manually closing and opening forcefully reaked havoc on the frame and saw that one of the metal bow on the top was came off it's mounts which was easily bolted back on, the second strap on both sides were rusted off that the straps were useless so we welded that part and it seems to be a good repair. but now on the passenger side seems to be off 1/4 inch in alignment to the passenger glass window. Please advise, your fan from the marianas island.

    Your video is awesome. Thank you. I watched it start to finish, then again step by step while I replaced the top on my 2005 mustang. My only question: How do you get the back rail/frame (the part you staple the top to) to stay all the way back? Mine wants to come forward a couple inches and leaves a gap to the back deck. Any suggestions?

    • @scottmclean5831
      @scottmclean5831 2 года назад +2

      Ok, I watched the video over and over and I figured out my problem. So I am admitting this in the hope that nobody else make the same mistake...when putting the bolts back in to secure the back frame I only but the cable bracket onto the frame. I did not secure it to the converible bracket. So make sure you have three piece being bolted together; the convertible frame bracket (black part connected to the moving frame), the u shaped frame that you staple the top to, and the cable bracket. Once I did that it all lines up perfectly!

  • @futuregamer5791
    @futuregamer5791 Год назад +1

    Great idea to coverup parts of the car before doing the job. My new top didn't come with instructions or any indicator marks. To make a long story short this was a huge pain in the ass. I've still got wrinkles on one side but I'm not pulling that bar and staples back out to fix it so I guess it's going to stay that way. It's a long and tedious process and the little plastic tabs behind the sidebars like to break really easy so I ended up not using them because half of them were broken. Not sure why they were on there in the first place. I also accidentally cut material that wasn't actually part of the top and as far as I can see you can't order replacement material online so I was stuck trying to mend the material attached to the back of the seats. If I had to do it again I would pay a shop. This isn't something a backyard mechanic should attempt unless you're comfortable screwing it up at least on the first attempt. Just my experience.
    It's also super easy to drop screws down inside the side of the car where the back window rolls down into so be prepared with a stick magnet and make sure young kids aren't around.

    Hello. I subscribed to your channel. I really enjoyed you video. I'm about to order a top online for my 2006 mustang. Just want to know what are your thoughts are on a vinyl or plastic window? Would it be easier to install? Thank you for putting great content out.

    Have a question. I used your video to install mine. Great Job by the way and everything went together perfect. Only one question. In your video there was a white strap in the center of the top that came out each side... but didnt see where you attached it. It ran through the middle in a slot from left to right of the car. In the top I ordered this strap was black. Only thing is I didnt see where I needed to attach it. What are your recommendations

      That is strap is like a left right? There is a small tiny hole on the driver side in the passenger side you have to put that in strap inside or the convertible top on a convertible top hos like a loops and you have to put inside there

    At 12:51 you can see the 3 plastic clips that are attached to the convertible top frame that the screws go into, if I break some of those, do I need to buy more? Or can i put it back together without those? If I need them, where can I buy them?

    Great video, I changed the top on my Mustang GT and I couldn't have done it without this video. It took all day but looks great. My only issue is it does not go all the way down, it stays up about an inch or two higher that it did with the old top. I purchased a high quality top, does it just need to "stretch" or did I do something wrong? thanks!

    Thank you for the video. Very helpful. I was able to follow it reasonably well. I do have a question. I've ended up with a1 inch gap between the bar you staple the back of the top to and the rear of car it is suppose to seat up against when the top is in the closed position. Any idea what I might have done wrong? Should I have stretched the top before attempting to install? Maybe I missed a strap between the top and the frame that is suppose to force the back further back? It seems like the bar is too far forward. Thanks for any help or suggestions.
