    Note: This video was way longer and I went into much more detail about the abilities of each, but I didn't want a 30+ minute video so I cut it down. There are a lot of good tips people are pointing out in the comments that I didn't mention in this video. It's super interesting to see how everyone plays this game differently.

      Wow I couldn't get past half way, I really tried to ignore it but the way you would constantly repeat the same thing about a stance was extremely annoying, I can't believe that you made and edited this video and didn't notice it. I think you would make 2 points per stance and which takes 10 seconds and then spent the next minute or so repeatedly saying the same thing just in different ways wow! I only lasted as long as I did because after 100+ hours with the game I thought that you would have something worth listening to but that repetition was painful to watch and listen to. Maybe I'm being harsh because I just woke up 5 mins ago?

      Someone obviously doesn't know that blaster parry let's you parry and I frame through unblockables.
      Also the quick draw doesn't consume ammo and is very good for bosses.
      Also blaster is best for single targets and bossfights because you can fire and charge while blocking and attacking, you need to get good at multitasking.
      Also youre supposed to use force powers to group or stun enemies with cross guard.

  • @fable23
    @fable23 Год назад +1084

    The cross guard stance is meant to mimic things like the Colossal swords from Elden ring and Dark Souls. Those weapons also traded speed for tremendous power. The problem here is that in those games you had armor, which gave you Poise, which allowed you to tank a hit without having your animation interrupted, which helped to make up for the lack of speed. Cal doesn't have that. The tiniest prick of damage will instantly stop any of his cross guard stance attacks, making the lack of speed much more significant and detrimental.

    • @ZHL242
      @ZHL242 Год назад +100

      The devs have said that they really wanted Crossguard stance to reward proper spacing, which isn't something these games usually do. If you want to attack in neutral, you have to make sure you're spaced away from the lunge range of whoever your opponent is so that you won't be interrupted. Other than that, it's built much more for parrying and whittling down the stamina meter until you get a guard break and an opportunity for a charged force attack which does basically the same damage as 2-3 full neutral wins with other sabers lol

    • @jonfall7941
      @jonfall7941 Год назад +271

      As a double enthusiast. It's still not THE weapon for groups. Its high commitment attacks and low stagger damage per attack makes it often get parried by enemies. It's circle throw abilities are so good and so fun but still you often end up trading damage to do them or it just misses.

    • @sispyhus
      @sispyhus Год назад +87

      I love the double bladed stance but where it fails at in crowd control is doing enough damage against high health enemies and fighting off flanking enemies. The lack of range makes it hard for you to pick off the stronger enemies who might be flanking or attacking at the same time as others. The animations also force you to commit, they are nearly as long as the cross guard stance making you pretty vulnerable. In lower difficulties I’m sure this is fine but on GM one animations can be the difference between dying or not so. With the single lightsaber having more ranged and slightly better power makes it so you can single out targets stronger targets more effectively.

    • @jonfall7941
      @jonfall7941 Год назад +18

      @@sispyhus totally agree. I play on gm and I could get comparable value to the double blade out of the crossguard in groups even. Against mobs of weak enemies the aoe pull combined with the L1 + square cleave attack basically does the job - Deflecting an amplified blaster shot does a good chunk of damage and starters and destroys shields so it's good for fighting vs ranged too - it also has the benefit of being strong enough to deal with tougher enemies with less commitment.
      I love the double blade but it isn't the end all be all of group combat. All of the stance can succeed at every situation if you use it right I think

    One trait that you didn't mention for Dual, that I'd argue is probably THE most important thing about Dual, is the ability to hit the GUARD button to cancel most attacks and immediately guard. In fact, I'd argue that with Dual, you actually want to do less dodging (unless absolutely necessary) and more parrying, due to the aforementioned trait.
    Tbh, the only stance i don't enjoy using is crossguard, and knowing that I'm limited to only 2 stances kills me, cuz while i love Blaster and Dual, i also love the aesthetic and simplicity of Single and the absolute untouchability and top-tier crowd control that Double can provide for me.

    I have to say, I found dual wield is way better for blocking than you described. It has a special property where you can cancel any hit into a block, with very little delay. Because of this you can play SUPER aggressive vs bosses w/ it and still get parries off vs enemies.

  • @AlucardDracula1000

    Dual wield is allot better than you think. It's the only stance that you can cancel your attack in for ba parry. Can be a real lifesaver if your parry timing is on point. In fact I would argue that if your good at that the weakness to your block meter is nullified

    If I had to rank them for myself and how much I used each during my play time I’d rank them as
    1. Blaster Stance
    2. Cross Guard Stance
    3. Double Blade Stance
    4. Dual Wield
    5. Single Blade.
    I mainly used Dual Blade and Blaster during my first play through and then during my new game plus I focused on Cross Guard and Double bladed and holy ass they are amazing. Cross Guard definitely has a learning curve but the reward against enemies is worth it.

    An important aspect of dual wield, is that you can cancel attacks and block instantly. It's the perfect parry style and the fast attacks obliterate block bars.

    Blaster stance is so broken. Using the Marksmanship and Ambidexterity perks give you a bunch of added damage, the charged blaster shot stuns just about anything, the Flying Lunge attack is a great way to deal crazy stance damage and gap close, and the blaster can help further increase your combos, is able to be charged mid attack, and can one shot a good amount of enemies. Easily my favorite stance just because of the combos, stun lock, and sheer damage from it. And combining all of that with the Fortitude perk just makes the damage outrageously high.

    I honestly use Single Bladed and Blaster Stance but have been tempted to use the other stances. Blaster stance is great for B1 droids and I find it the best for exploring with considering you can keep distance and the ammo regens pretty easy. Single bladed for when I have to deal with melee focused enemies and some bosses like Rayvis who can just tank blaster shots, not only that but it's the stance I use the most against blaster fire. Definitely surprised to see these two so high on this list, I knew they were good but I didn't know it was like that in relation to other stances.

    Single and Blaster are slept on, you basically can’t go wrong with the single it’s versatile and is a good standard for every scenario, the blaster is straight up OP. If you chain together saber hits and blaster shots you can run through all the enemies that have a high block meter and for any other enemies you can just use your charge shot to annihilate them.

    This might come down to play style. For all you Soul's player's out there, Cal does not have poise, which is why cross guard requires careful timing. It is very good for boss encounters, and any situation where you have a lot of enemies with melee weapons. Crossguard absolutely destroys the poise of anything it touches, so if enemies are blocking, it really helps. Double-bladed was my preference for crowds though, I felt like my defenses were just generally stronger with the double-bladed equipped.

  • @TheJinnobi

    You wanted to know what we think, so I'll throw in my 2 cents.
    1) Saberstaff ("double-blade") is very good at crowd control. It probably should be S tier at CC. However it's quite bad at boss fights if the boss has no ranged attacks, and has a block meter.
    2) I'm glad you've acknowledged the power of Single saber. It really is a good stance. It can fill in any "gaps" or deficiencies that other stances have. It also seems to be Form IV, and since Qui-Gon Jinn and Yoda are my favorite Jedi, I automatically approve of Form IV.
    3) Dual Wield is absolutely the "best" all-around stance for boss fights. If you're up against single or multiple melee opponents (with no ranged enemies) it shines. Being able to animation-cancel attacks is huge; being able to dodge-cancel attacks is huge; being able to precision-release Force Parry into a stance swap during the animation is huge; Serpent's Bite (hold down attack during Uncoiled Strikes) actually deals damage through blocks and staggers, plus the combo melts bosses who can't block; breaking the boss' block meter with anything -- from a regular parry, to Force Parry, to Serpent's Bite -- allows you to seamlessly switch to Crossguard or Single Saber for a large, single follow-up "punisher" attack. Dual Wield is such a deep, rewarding style that I could write an article on it. Definitely S tier for bosses, maybe even S+. Some guy beat all bosses on Grandmaster without taking damage with DW stance.
    4) Crossguard isn't quite as bad as D tier at Crowd Control. Not only is Charged Reflect awesome, but so is Shockwave and Rolling Thunder. I'd probably but it at C tier. Also, it's a perfect compliment to Dual Wield in boss fights: see above.
    Good video @swanyplaysgames, I can tell you put work into this. I subbed and liked. You earned it!

    This is a great tier list and consider me a new subscriber. I knew that you understood what you were talking about the second you mentioned Charged Reflection. That said as a Crossguard main, I am a bit disappointed you didn't consider force abilities. The Force is S-tier when it comes to crowd control, so weaknesses when it comes to crowd control isn't actually that bad.
    I think you went a bit too hard on double bladed. It definitely has better CC abilities than Dual. And like you said, double is easily as good as crossguard when it comes to destroying guards, especially with shatter. I'd honestly put it equal with Dual stances on this list in both regards (slightly above in CC, but slightly below in terms of bosses)
    And I like that you thought through the weaknesses of Dual and placed it in A for both. It's a really good stance, but it doesn't have the raw power against bosses that Crossguard does and its low stamina cripples it against strong and/or many ranged enemies (aka, many blaster bolts).

    Dual wielding move cancel makes it automatically across the board S tier. Move cancel is huge if you’re playing on higher difficulty. There’s no way the footage used was in grandmaster, almost everything kills you in a couple hits in GM. Plus the split shot reflection makes it viable for killing multiple enemies with a single deflection. With purity on, it’s absolutely goated

    I'm glad I'm not going crazy for thinking the Gun stance is better than I've heard others say. It really felt like such a good CC stance surprisingly.
    The dual wield stance also quickly became my favorite due to the innate animation canceling ability alone. It makes fighting any enemy so fun with the ability to constantly attack and then parry at a moments notice. For anyone using that stance, I HIGHLY recommend utilizing parries more than dodges and especially blocking due to the low stamina. There were many times where boss fights became almost trivial due to the ability to parry pretty much anytime even while attacking

    The cross-guard stance is severely overlooked in this game. If you have decent spacing, timing, and patience cross-guard is literally OP against everything. If you really want to feel like a Jedi, mastering cross-guard stance in this game is a must. I have a hard time playing any other stance because I miss the precision and deadliness of the cross-guard stance and end up going back.
    With groups of smaller enemies using sundering swipe will clear massive groups of enemies quickly, especially when combined with force gather (where you pull everything in front of you). You can also pick off weaker enemies from a distance with the force throw as it deals a LOT of damage, and it can also be used to pre-break guard before going in for a finishing attack. This can be immensely helpful for picking off annoying ranged units while trying to take on multiple melee mobs. Pair this with Focused Sight for even more enemy-slaying goodness.
    You can also basically stun-lock single enemies with the run attack, rending strike, and force attack (cleave/cleaving swing), constantly either knocking them down for free damage or straight up breaking their guard in one or two swings and then dealing massive damage. On bosses it simply deals massive damage and is the easiest way to end a boss fight quickly assuming you're willing to put in the work to learn the patterns.

Single is the most versatile abd has abilities or everything; air, gap closing, strong sweeps, overheads. Dual has animation cancelling which is life or death for parrying. Blaster is great for beast bosses especially and the quickdraw and point blank abilities are op asf once you master them.

    Kinda strange how you didn't mention how the Blaster stance absolutely RIPS through enemy stamina when you fire shots in-between each lightsaber strike, even more than the double-bladed lightsaber can. I actually found it useful in numerous boss encounters for this very reason, taking advantage of staggering the boss or a spare moment where they're not attacking you could often drain the entire stamina bar, where you could then switch to something like dual-wield or crossguard to deal massive damage.

    For me:
    5. Single: I like all stances, but compared to the other ones, it’s my least favourite. It’s a jack of all trades. But a master of none, in my eyes. I find that this one has the least impactful abilities in my eyes.
    4. Dual wield: Really nice and fast. Cancelling your attack is great. It’s great for bosses. Good for other enemies. I prefer the stances higher up though. I defeated the Rancor with this one.
    3. Crossguard: What a powerhouse. A boss fight king. I always equipped this with a boss fight, after I got it. Not amazing with group encounters though. But its one on one prowess carries it to the middle of the pack. This is probably one of the best stances without any upgrades. The cheap combo of attacking and using triangle when the enemy is exposed it lethal.
    2. Double blade: Great. Probably me favourite for crowd control. This and the now obvious number one are the ones I tend to equip when free roaming. And it’s really solid in duels too. Just hold square and the attack are focused on one single target. And I once annihilated a room with the charged saber throw, which was awesome.
    1. Blaster: Superb. Great for crowd control. Great for duels. It’s the Jack of all trades but with greater benefits than the single blade. You can apply pressure from range and the different charged shots are useful. I tend to stick to the standard charged shot, or sometimes ricochet. One of the reasons I like this stance a lot is the lunge attack you do whilst holding square. It costs no force and it’s so damn effective at everything. I cheesed through the spawn of Oggdo by doing charged shot, lunge, charged shot, lunge, until it died. I cannot stress enough how great that single move actually is.

      @@microsf121 Played on Grandmaster with dual wield as my primary and double-bladed as my secondary stance. Fought all the bosses as Cal with dual wield and only switched to double-bladed to deflect blaster shots. The advantage of dual wield is you can non-stop attack and then just parry when they attempt to attack you. This allows you to do things like trap Rayvis in a corner since he doesn't have enough time to properly recover. If played correctly (i.e. parrying while attacking and also using focused parry) this is a stance that should be in S-tier for boss fights and above the crossguard option. Focused parry basically just gives you free hits since it staggers them as if you had fully drained their stamina bar, and animation canceling makes it so that you don't ever need to stop attacking unless you need to dodge an unblockable.

    I used single blade most of my play through because of how well rounded it was and just switched to DW when I needed quick attacks. Shakespeare did say “ A jack of all trade is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one”.

    I’m doing a pure single blade play through. I love the classic feel and the balance.

    Once I unlocked both the blaster and dual wield stances, I think I had those equipped for the entirety of the rest of my playthrough.

    Personally I love the aggressive and defensiveness of the double bladed saber

    I played with double sided and double saber, I never learned how to play with the rest.

    The charged shot reflection ability from the crossguard stance, is actually insanely powerfull against droidekas, it instantly breaks their shield. c:

    I'm just playing Survivor for the first time at the moment and I've done most of the game so far with crossguard and double bladed, but I think I might shake it up and shift over to single blade and dual wield. I didn't "get" dual wield at first but I think with the ability to break the attack it could be really fun.

    Have you tried using the dead eye after mass power slam?

    I basically finished the whole game with just blaster and dual wield stance on Jedi knight. With the dual sabers you can hit lightsaber bosses until their block meter is half gone, then when they go for the light attack (which they will try 2 or 3 times)you can parry the attacks which breaks their block meter and you can get a lot of hits in before they regen or roll away.

    With blaster stance, you can actually charge the shot while you swing your lightsaber, making this stance incredible for DPS against bosses, since you can also shoot in between swings. Charge your shot while swinging, fire, and keep swinging. The shot takes maybe a second before you're able to swing again. The quick draw is very good at damaging melee enemies as they close the distance. Who needs saber parries when the point blank skill exists? It works on unblockable attacks as well, and it can also be performed with a charged shot. This is my favorite stance. It's easy to start using, but has a high skill ceiling.
