I love the way that he takes the piss out of himself!! "I went to a gig to watch the guitarist play and I would learn a chord a week. I only went for three weeks" is just classic!!
I once found myself in the mid 80's helping out backstage at a TV studio where Quo were performing. wearing my company issue boiler suit I ended up assisting Rick & Francis Rossi, I remarked on the beauty of the 'ovation semi acoustic' sitting in the dressing room (at the time a relatively new axe), Francis asked if I could play & suggested I play something to them so I played my best Jazz chord riffs (I'd returned 3 weeks earlier from recording an album in Africa & was hot), Rick said "not bad mate", Francis said "you know your stuff son" & promptly played classical guitar to us... Divinely. Stunned I asked why they only used 3 chord riffs in their songs & Francis said "we look terrible in boiler suits", I nearly wet myself laughing. Two really nice blokes you'd love to go to the pub with.
Sad loss! All us 60+ yr olds grew up with the Quo.

Rick, God rest your soul...You are one of THE MOST underrated rhythm guitarists in the world EVER.
A great guy who i met after one of their concerts in Southampton in 1977 when i was 17. Told him i loved quo since 9 or 10 and he loved it. A lovely man and two great frontmen for a band. Loved them still at 63. Rest in peace Rick your music lives on like you would have loved.

im 13 and i know some people wont expect this but i grow up for 13 years only listening to Quo and i heard about rick on Christmas which ruined my year

Is'nt it really nice to sit and listen to a person, who has' been there,got the t;shirt, etc and STILL talk and relate to people like a normal person, instead of many other 'pop stars' who's ego always is bigger than themselves! Thanks for the fond memories mate.
A little story of a wanna be rock star: Me and my fellow long haired mates formed a band high up in the north of Norway when we were around 12-13 years old. We named it Alice.
In my mate's cellar we had an old defect pump organ we got from school (after beggin for it). We fixed the pedals with matress springs, painted it fancy red, yellow, blue and green (and imagined we were Keith Emerson). As amplifiers we used old radios (which actually worked out very well). We could not yet afford a drum set, so we used cardboard boxes etc. for drums. I was the drummer.
One evening we was gathered in my mate's parents livingroom watching Status Quo on TV. Wow, it was so cool, with the long hair hanging down and jumping around to the boogie rock. We were all fired up and exhilarated, and when the program was over we went to the cellar to play. 🎸 We rocked on like hell, with the Quo attitude. In the middle of the room - in the ceiling - hang a conglomerate of plug in devices plugged in together. The lead guitarist jumped up and hit them with the guitar's headstock and it went pitch black dark as the electricity went out in the whole house. The guitars faded out while my "drum" beats continued for some seconds. A load angry scream came from above - from my mate's aggravated father. Poor tormented soul.
I'll never forget that happening, it was so funny. Ever since I've been a fan of Quo and always will be. End of story: A bit later on we got a drumset and real guitar amplifiers, and for a while we were local "rock stars". Then we split up, and that was that. I'm now 64, making music in my home studio. Status Quo have been an inspiration along with the other great bands, and I will cherish this band forever. I'm gonna be a rock star..... in my next life.

I met the boys many times and was lucky enough to go to a back stage party in Paris. I was out of it for 3 days. RIP both Rick and Alan
This is a brilliant interview with one of the nicest men we met him once in the services on the M62 in Brighouse Yorkshire after our band doing a gig In Wakefield and I think Quo had been playing at the Bridlington Spa I thought he was great

R.I.P. Rick Parfitt. I resonate with his bafflement of how Quo never got fully recognized in the states. As a youngster...I heard "Pictures of Matchstick Men" on the radio in the U.S. when it was on the charts and liked it enough to learn the name of the band that did it. That's all I knew about Status Quo. Flash forward about 6 or 7 years to the worst New Years Eve for me...ever. I had come home from school to my parents for the weekend for a heavily anticipated date with a girl I had long admired. My dream date got totally blitzed and left with another guy; the next morning I'm awakened by my Mom holding the remains of a joint I made from ditch weed in a cigarette machine and demanding to know, "What the hell is this?!". I lied & said it was a "Laredo" cigarette; (that was the brand of cig machine I used, so it was partially true). My insistent lying mollified her somewhat, but the look I received told me she didn't buy that story for a minute. That night, during the three hour drive in a snowstorm back to my apartment in the city, I was trailed by a car for nearly half the trip. The car finally took an exit and revealed itself to be a state trooper. Having several beers in me (and the remainder of the ditch weed)...I was on full alert and had driven extremely cautiously while the mystery car was behind me. When I saw that it had indeed been a highway patrol...I was so completely relieved that I immediately started nodding off. Bear in mind...I'm less than 10 miles from my exit at this point. After being jolted awake by hitting the shoulder several times, the third time was the charm. This time, I jolted awake from glancing off a guardrail with my car sliding sideways down the freeway at about 40 mph with my rear wheels in the ditch and my front wheels up on the shoulder. I was able to get the car back on the road and limp it home where I got stuck with about a third of the car still protruding into the alley. One front fender was smashed in with that wheel pointing to the right...the other front wheel still pointing straight. It's now about 5 a.m. and I waded through almost 2 feet of fresh snow, climbed the stairs to my apartment and flung myself into bed. About 4 hours later, I'm jolted awake again. This time, by my roommate playing a record I've never heard before, extremely loud. As I start swimming out of my fog...each event of the weekend came piling back along with the reality that I have no money to fix the car. All I wanted to do was go back to sleep and forget everything. This huge amount of anger welled up and was about to propel me into the living room to scream at my roommate when the current song ended. As I was trying trying to think of an appropriate string of curse words to use, the opening riff to "Little Blue Eyed Lady" came on and my anger faded to nothing as I lay mesmerized. Though my frame of mind shifted out of anger, I was still going to beg my roommate to kill the stereo and let me sleep. Then "Caroline" washed over me like a tsunami. Now all I could think of was, "I've got to get this album!" I joined my roommate and we listened to the entire album again. Ever since, and now almost 50 years later...when I think of that weekend, it's not "The Awful New Years"; it's when I first heard those two songs. "Hello There" is still one of my favorite albums of all time.

I met Francis and Rick in WH Smiths in Wolverhampton still got the photo. Two genuine men who were really nice to meet .
Thanks Rick for all those wonderful moments. I was 12 when I bought Blue for you. I added Hello! (and Sweet’s Sweet FA) to my collection and that was the beginning of an unstoppable passion for hard & heavy rock music for more than 45 years now. Thousands of albums and dozens of sophisticated metal genres later, I still often go back to the early seventies hard rock classics: Quo, pre-79 Aerosmith, UFO, Lizzy, Sabbath, Priest. Nothing since then got as good, genuine and honest as the those originals!

I was listen to them from 1972,a great guy,simple and most of the time in a good mood. RIP. I was very sad when I knew he was past away,like a friend from long time and he was part of my life through my life,and also if he isn’t anymore here he will be always in my life. A great musician. Thanks for existing Rick.
Humble, honest, down-to earth - a true star! It was a shock, and he will be missed by many, including myself. I've grown up with Status Quo; they've been a major part of my life history, just as Bowie was and numerous others.

Thank you Rick Parfitt for your sacrifices and contributions to rock and roll. It will not be the same without you. We're likely the only Status Quo cover band in Canada and have raised more than a few glasses to your memory. Rest in peace from the boys in Retox.

We're in Calgary, Alberta. We've played a few bars around town but typically we're too loud, can't help it. People really like us and the sound men and bar staff can't believe what they're hearing. Most people here have never heard it before and when we get an Englishman or European in the crowd they love it. Takes them home so to speak. Every time we do play I say "I'd like to thank Status Quo for writing these songs for us". We've never been paid much more than beer but play it for the love of it. Come see us if you're in town.

So glad I got to see the frantic four line up in April 2014 ,I grew up in the 70s watching my mum putting quo on the record player ,and wearing her denims and White and green Dunlop pumps.
I took my mum to see the show and it was one of the best days of my life, my mum passed in 2016 ,I'm so glad I got to see her favourite band with her, she didn't like quo without john and Alan, so when we found out that we had missed the 2013 reunion tour we were gutted, so when they announced the 2014 shows we snapped the tickets up, we met Rick and he was great, when they played big fat mamma I gave the horns up hand gesture and he smiled and did it back ,such a precious memory.

Always loved Rick, and saw the Quo 5 times back in the late 80s / early 90s. I find it quite emotional now, hearing him speak like this, and can't watch the band without him. They're not Quo anymore.
What a great band was Status Quo.
I was usually into more Rock bands in the 80s, but I would usually be footstompin till Status Quo anyways when they were on the radio!

Status Quo came to Toronto twice in 90's ... the first at The Warehouse , a venue I'd been to many times 1500 cap , never had I seen the venue so empty !!!! F'ing Bizarre --- then they came back to Hard Rock Café Younge Street ... by far one of thee absolute Best Shows that I've ever seen . The Professionalism & The Energy just incredible ... David Bowie Warehouse & Rammstein ACC would be two others that just stood out way above the pack but that HRCafé show was stunning , right against the stage with those magicians was a night never forgotten -- 10/10 does not compute
They do absolutely brilliant shows until now.
I'm an American and I always loved Quo unil Rick died. In my mind, the band ended that day.

Always loved the quo,staple diet of classic rock growing up with my dad playing it.I was lucky and happened to literally bump into rick one afternoon in a car park lift! Lol! I was working down in London for a few days,I guess about 10 years ago.I couldn't of met a nicer person.Chatted for a good 1/2 hour about... music,guitars,cars,& general stuff...a genuine nice guy...👌RIP

My older brother got me into the Quo in the early 80s and I would play his albums when he was out. Then got a few of my own and bought a guitar to emulate Rick. Just loved how he looked and played. Always came across as genuine and natural. RiP Rick and thanks

Rick's story about his life and working as a musician, honestly shows what things make him happy, where he was wrong and wasted time and what is exhausting in touring life that you can't be successful everywhere, but still happy to have the fans, who have given them for years .remained loyal.I wish his widow and the little kids a lot of strength and confidence for the future🙏. RIP🎸 Rick!

I got hooked on Quo through a 7" single from my dad. It was Hold You Back and that intro just grabbed me and I just had to jump up and down. Never stopped really 😅
Rick's story is quite a sad one, but his legacy is a great one. I'm forever greatful to all the amazing music those guys put out. Rock on forever Quo!

Francis Rossi ,told my wife to get up and dance ,as we were right at the front !She loved the gig ,but she had killer heels on and needed to sit down !!I remember Rick pounding away infront of the stacks on rhythm,legend !!!Never stop listening to the Quo !!

Evque I know, watching the content on here has made me so sad, it's a classic case of didn't appreciate him enough, he, Quo were there but that was enough, the Highlights interview with the twins was solid Rick gold......
There are certain rock stars who are enthralling and captivating speakers. Francis and Rick are two great examples. Eric Clapton and Keith Richards are two others who come to mind.
