“When your chat commands are ‘Thanks!”, get ready. Haha. Maybe I’m the only one, but I only use Thanks to legitimately thank someone for helping me score or saving my butt when I’ve gotten into a bad situation. But now I’m wondering if others think I’m being sarcastic when I use it.
I do this too. My feeling is if you’re also effectively communicating other things like where you’re headed throughout, saying “Thanks!” will be taken well. I like to acknowledge when someone stayed to fight with me or stood on goal so I could score faster when it makes sense. Increases the likelihood they’ll do it again in later matches.
Oh I absolutely use it to be sarcastic. Nobody wants to be able to do anything constructive macro wise so I always throw it when they don’t get an objective or throw a fight

I feel you! I use thanks too when teammates help me secure rotom, dred, zap. No one ever reacts to it unlike when you notify them that you're heading towards their lane. 😶
I once was playing support with a exp share and let my lane buddy take all the last hits on our wild Pokemon... After taking the last one he pinged thanks and I was like "did... Did I just get a genuine non-sarcastic thanks?"
Me spamming 'Thanks!' at the end of some of my matches because of how "grateful" I am towards my teammates. Yeah... I need to stop that.
It is all about the timing. If you say thanks after recieving help = Good.
Say thanks after someone ran away instead of helping you and you die? =Toxic (but for real though, why do full HP Defenders not care about their squishies :C )

I only use “I need backup when I’m caught in a 1v3 in bottom lane and drednaw drops, I’m usually one to spam “keep the pressure on” to make my teammates feel like apex predators

Honestly same here, I don't know why but "keep the pressure on" will turn the most scared players into a pack of wolves. i also fell like "score some goals" gets some crazy counter scoring comebacks at times

To be fair, I've had some experiences in standard battles where I felt like surrendering before Zap because my team was just not playing as a team. Ranked is different of course, but I don't like to be stuck in a game where it has been a massacre from the first minute.
It's just a game - don't surrender just lose. I get so mad when someone on my team surrenders because I am usually doing well while my teammates are doing nothing
There's always a comeback unless you know what I mean.🤣

Surrender before zap shows up is like surrender before the real match even begin.
Hopefully you are also supporting your team in battles and not just doing well SOLO- perhaps that’s why the team is surrendering due to your absence and selfish play style- just a thought if it’s true.
I really want ranked mode to implement the rule where if a teammate has disconnected early on or has been afk, a loss won't negatively affect your rank. Certain other Nintendo games have this feature so why not here
I don't necessarily mind the surrender function in certain scenarios, but it should definitely be reworked. My proposals:
1. Only available after Zapdos is defeated.
2. Only available if your team is trailing by a significant margin (300? 500?)
Only for ranked. In standard sometimes I’ve felt like surrendering in the first minute.

This is why I always pick lane because for myself I don't want to be stressed by jungle thieves but also I'll be one less person to steal the jungle from those who want it. The only draw back is when no one is taking the jungle at all and I'm running an eldegoss.

People counter surrender with thanks in my region lol, if someone pops surrender, they just say thanks, and it’s so funny and sarcastic also wholesome lol

I use the "I need backup" quick chat when I genuinely need help and I don't even spam it. I didn't even know until now that this was a toxic chat message.

He really nails it, all the points mentioned are true. I don't understand but in season 3 everyone wants to play jungle I haven't played jungle after a first week or so because they really wants it they are ready to steal it from you so I completely stop playing jungle now and roles a dice on who ever playing it just know what they are doing because most of the time they get ko'd in first rotation giving all the experience or doesn't time it right. Meanwhile top and bottom lane be like how come nobody calls us are we even needed are we even important for the game anymore.
Honestly, when I'm new to the game I always steal the jungle (I'm using Ninetails XD) because I have no idea that there are specific pokemon who should take it. I don't know the objectives and just clash with the opponent Pokemon as I please. Hahaha

I get that sometimes some people use the I need backup text wrong, they make a very bad decision and then expect allies to just die with them. But it's not always the case.
I use "I need backup" only when my lane partner is nowhere to be found and I really need someone with me, specially because I mostly play defender or support.
It's so frustrating to be a Slowbro or an Eldegoss and when the 8:50 or de 7:20 bees are going to spawn, your lane partner just decides to go to the jungle or is just hanging somewhere else. I use the I Need Backup in these situations to call them out or at least make them know that something important is happening at goal.
The most frustrating thing about this is that they don't really care and still don't show up, and when you lose your lane because you were on your own and start to lose goals, the surrender vote spam begins.
I have played a few matches where 3 pokemon go up top and I'm alone in the bottom lane. The jungler joins them in the top lane 😂, dominates the top lane and destroys the top enemy goal zone, then they all stay back to get Rotom while I get mobbed by the entire enemy team in the bottom lane, looking for a revenge goal break.
When I am getting mobbed in any lane with no team support despite multiple requests for back-up, instead of getting KOed by them I just stand on the secondary goal zone in the same lane, doing nothing. The enemy scoring on the forward goal zone one after the other and seeing me standing still like an AFK quitter has always made one of my teammates panic enough to join me in lane start defending the goal. When they join me in lane I also resume battling.
Related to this video, are any of you who play ranked matches getting the players who ask for mid, get it once then spend the rest of the game not getting objectives, only fighting if people get in the way, and stealing all the wild pokémon which in the end makes us lose and gets them mvp, i keep getting these kinds every other game it’s like a new form of game plan and i hate it so much

It's solo q pain. There's a lot of stereotypes players out there. A pikachu afk, a greninja, charmander who fights for jungle even you call it first. There's a defender who creep jack their own team mates. A slow bro who trolls doing random things. A speedster who only wants kill rate no obj. If this happens, your team is aware of this and top and bot destroyed early trust me surrender spam will pop up 😂🤧🤣
I use thank often when people throw so I follow them and spam thanks cuz it was their fault usually. I'm toxic... And they're gonna know they did
I had a Mr Mime spamming “keep up the pressure” when we lost Zap
The biggest problem with surrendering pre-Zapdos is, the game is designed so that a turnabout is always possible, and all the team needs is to fall back, play defensively, wait for the opponents to make mistakes (like pushing too deep into our territory), and then win that big Zapdos fight in the end. It's always possible to win, and many of us have won a lot of matches despite being steamrolled the whole game... It's seriously giving up/surrendering that loses the match.
The moment I saw a customizable command wheel and saw “thanks” and “I need backup” on there, I immediately knew what those were gonna be used for. I think I’ve only seen “thanks” used as intended on two separate occasions. TWO.
As jungler, I have top, bottom and center commands so the team knows where I’m going and can be interpreted in many generic scenarios. The fourth spice pick is an ambush command since I’m not sure what to fill in that slot that could be productive in a general scenario.
I really love "We're outnumbered, avoid fighting"... but people still ignore it sometimes and push tier 2 goal after 5:00 and die, so what do I know. lol
I think "Let's gather in the central area" is kinda mandatory.
You could say "Watch out for surprise attacks" to remind your team to check the bushes for enemies while taking objectives.
You could say "Knock out Opposing Team's Pokemom" to remind your team to knock enemy Pokemon out before taking objectives (mainly Zap) to avoid potential steals. Or "Let's wait for our allies" work here too.
You could also keep "Defend our goal zone" to let people know to retreat after scoring after taking Zapdos, instead of mindlessly fighting on the enemy goal zone. Although you can pin one of your goal zones on the minimap and it works similarly. But "Defend our goal zone" message does not indicate any specific goal zone thus could be more effective and less confusing.
Working on objectives alone praying the other team doesnt make it in time, is a regular struggle
Charizard is really not such an easy pokemon to play. Sure, once you get Lv9 your unite move can pretty much easily secure a kill even against an overleveled attacker (perhaps with a little help from your teammates too), however, I think that's the _only_ easy thing about Charizard. Laning with Charizard is pain and suffering: As a Charmander you pretty much have to stay on the defense or you'll get deleted. Even then, I find myself fighting and losing to 3 enemies on my goal far too often (I suppose I'm an easy target as a Charmander, to the enemy central roamer).
You _are_ given 2 ranged moves for stealing/securing the last hit, but that's probably not something a novice MOBA player would understand. The only way to have a good time early game with Charizard is to have the central area for yourself (and the central area rotation is very unlikely to be something a novice player would know), or have opponents who are even worse laners than you (be it by the pokemon itself or the player). Everyone loves Charizard, but it's actually a pretty terrible pick for novice players... so it's inevitable that it goes wrong so often.
The game could honestly try to explain to new players that "Charmander is weak early on and needs to be played defensively, but once you reach Lv9 and evolve into a Charizard, your unite move is nearly unparalleled in taking out an enemy attacker or speedster". I actually vague remember reading something like "you're a little unreliable as a Charmander" in-game, but I'm not sure where I saw that... Maybe it wasn't even in-game at all.
As someone who recently got Charizard and learning its nuances, another All-Rounder should've taken its place as a Starter when learning Unite (but we all know how Pokemon views Charizard)

I mostly play standard and for the most part I hate the surrender button, but sometimes man..... It's just insanely clear that your team is oblivious to objectives and you're wasting your time. I'll never spam it, but sometimes you just know

Do you know what's more infuriating? That random teammate who has clearly given up waits for you to die and then presses surrender to make it look like YOU did it because you're now dead even though you didn't.
5:59 I agree with that when someone calls jungle others shouldnt be allowed to enter into that area for the first couple of Minutes Or until the jungler himself gets out in the lane. There should something like a red zone to prevent the entry or intruder's health should be deducted in the jungle.

I've always disagreed with the general opinion about the surrender button. I know you can make a comeback at any point in a match, but when most of my teammates don't show up to objectives and the enemy team feels coordinated, it'll probably end up in a loss unless there happens to be a lucky Zapdos steal. And even when that happens and my team wins, I don't feel happy about winning, just annoyed that the other 8 minutes of the game sucked. Then there's the argument about the game being only 10 minutes. If you're someone like me that only has time to play 2-3 matches every couple days, being forced to be bodied by the other team the entire match sucks and makes it hard to want to return to the game regularly. I wish the unite content creators would stop pushing this opinion to never surrender and if you do you're a troll.
I actually say "thanks" a lot because I play machamp and love when people give me backup when I dive in. There isnt really another way to say I appreciated it

If I can’t get help for objectives, my team doesn’t help me finish off opponents that are alone and low health, or they steal my jungle I’m 2000% going to start being toxic. I give my team the first 4 minutes of the match to level out but eventually the “I need backups” every 5 seconds are going to start flying. In the words of Herm Edwards “YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME”. If you wanna run around aimlessly go play Roblox.
couldnt say it better myself! if my team want to go nuts, run around in circles, steal jungle and ignore objectives i have no option but to spam the surrender button till i literally cant do it anymore or even going afk cuz no way im going to cry out of stress on a match that is doomed from the start 🤡

Usually it's probably because you're alone and you had a shit teammate who decided leaving the lane was a good idea. But you also have a good teammate trying to call attention to the fact you're alone
Usually that ping goes flying when you’re by yourself the majority of the game, back-capping while the team fights without you. Among other things.
I'm really disappointed Jake. How could you ignore the MVP of the match, the sylveon that was doing exactly what it needed to do???
I once missed one whole minute of the game because I was watching your videos and forgot I was starting a match myself. I am so ashamed. But especially because I haven't learned from my mistake.

7:08 I think the only time when surrendering is just a better option to move along to the next game is between two situations that I’ve experienced as a mostly 5 stack player:
1) You are way behind in goals and exp and can’t even contest Zap (wait till after the enemy inevitably takes Zap before surrendering because trying to steal is better than nothing).
2) You are pretty even on goals and get wiped/miss a potential coin flip and there’s no time to even make a final push after because Zap was taken so late.
Or you take zap but your team still gets wiped out and everyone is on a 20 second+ cool down and by the time your cool down is up, the enemy is already protecting their goals and you got no shot to score.

When i use the "thanks" command, literally it's mostly to those players who always leave me behind against 2 knowing that we can at bit them to then do a score or whatever. But you know like always, things how they are😌

Main character syndrome - playing a game with 9 other people but if things don't go your way you will ruin it for all of them.
When playing as a defender or a supporter; letting your teammate Gardevoir, Ninetales or Sylveon get all the experience of your lane; seeing them evolve very soon into the game; and getting from them a real and meant (not troll) message of "Thanks!" really makes you believe that chivalry hasn't died.

At what point is it ok to take the jungle spawns from the jungler? Is there a time where it’s free for all? When they haven’t gone back for their second jungle rotation?
yeah if they don't return then someone needs to grab it. Usually give them a bit but if they just stay in lane then I would go grab it.

Even I'm playing good trying to carry most times I pressed hard surrender.
Its always the pikas charz and something michamp and vena and once a freaking blissey stole my buff on my team and when I pick jungle I give the rest of my team time to see if they want center area and claim it with the path pick
i only spam gather here for dread ... most of my team mates dunno why they go for rotom break the top goal giving them lots of exp with audinos along with giving up on dread to make the opponents over leveled
see now another toxic one is keep the pressure on, in certain scenarios.
For example, this was a RANKED MATCH BTW MASTERS at like level 1600, we were hardly losing, at all, there was no issues. all of a sudden i noticed the blissey, who hadn’t come for first dreadnaw sitting in the respawn area. Ended up being the blissey sitting in the zone for 6 fricking minutes, spamming keep the pressure on, surrendering, and just circling the zone. That was one of the worst games of my life
I was gastly called jungle first after 2 secs a cinder called jungle. I got everything from lilipup to corphish and the monkey kept following me whole game. We lost with cinder having 408 damage or 0.8,feeding, stealing my farm and in general being toxic.

I have a similar problem with *most* Greninja or Cinderace players, where they try to lane, get destroyed by a Lucario or Squirtle, then pout about it for the next 9 minutes of the match by spamming “RETREAT” in our base.
So now, I kinda hate Greninja/Cinderace mains bc they act duuuuuumb.
I wish they removed the surrender option or at least made it unavailable until after Zapdos has been defeated
i use "let me level up first" to really tell people or my lanemate to wait a moment and let me level up first :)) it actually works like 99% the time
Yeah, I actually don't mind this one. Feel like it's easy to miss when a teammate needs just a little more to get to their next level. I've definitely messed that up a time or two.
I keep it on just in case. Most of the time I spam it when people take my jungle if I claimed jungle that game... Usually doesn't help tho

The game should have come with a tutorial that explained moba meta. Dont steal jungle, don’t all pick adc, know where each role goes, etc. i mean for christ’s sake quit making this seem like a game where i pick my favorite pokemon and get to win a-la-protagonist-with-plot-armor style
