My school teachers in middle school and high school actually thought the cards looked cool and some would watch and pick up some of the rules. I miss those days of casual play with friends
I disagree strongly, there are way better written, and just better in concept, in anime other than Yu Gi Oh. But it's cool if you enjoy it. But honestly it's just formulaic.
Yu-Gi-Oh has always been important to me, but it is even more important to me because Yu-Gi-Oh is how me and my Partner got together. It will always have a special place in my heart and be a part of my life.
I have an amazing story with Yu-gi-oh. because my friend Emerson and I started a yu-gi-oh craze in school, I bought Saga with Eyes of Blue and he had a Yugi Starter Deck. We played in the break and all my class used to watch us, and then everyone in my class bought yu-gi-oh cards as well and started playing with us, and the thing was so popular than even our school cafeteria (which was owned by one of classmates family) started buying the cards, so soon the whole school was "playing" as well. (I said "playing" like that because only my class and some guys in fifth grade truly knew how to play, and most of the people played it in invented ways) I treasure those memories very much, and all of us in the graduation exchanged our cards to have something to remember about each other :)
Now that I'm in my 30's, one of the memories that occasionally pops up to haunt me is how much I bullied the YuGiOh players. Because I played Magic The Gathering. A real card game for intellectuals. Unlike YuGiOh, that baby game for babies. Yeah, I was a gatekeeping asshole and I really regret how much of a tool I was back then.
I play both MTG and Yu-Gi-Oh! I got back to Yu-Gi-Oh when a buddy told me about Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel. The funny but also a stupid thing is that we played Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic at the schools cafeteria and people would shout "Haha they are playing Pokémon!".
I love this, I just got back into Yugioh with my friend and got a new deck! So nice to spend adult money on a childhood pleasure that I couldn't have before
@@Mylo_editzz try playing master duel, or if you don't want to go through luck because of the pack openings you could play ygo pro which has every card

Modern and original yugioh are such different beasts. I do miss the days of “loose themes and my favorite monsters” designs, but the modern complexity is a different flavor of rewarding. For the people who started when the game was new, it grew nicely with us. I feel bad for anyone trying to start today tho.
At my school we had kids try to pull that crap (but I was the "king of games" or the top player of our group) and I told them that was a forbidden playstyle, as taking people's cards discourages people from playing the game with us and that if we win, we are responsible for helping improve the opposing players deck. (That rule stayed even after I lost my title and I think it really helped people feel comfortable playing with us)
My older brother would do that when we were young especially when we got starter decks. It made me get inventive like one deck were flip advantage cards so he would lose most of his bigger monsters by my tiny guys.
@@chaosgilleon6433 same tho with bayblade or Pokemon, yugioh was impossible to play outside mostly down to wind and we where not allowed to play games inside unless it was raining. before i became the king of games play for keeps was the norm until i step in after the former king of game past away who never bothered changing the rules despite being considered the nice guy in the school.

For as long as I can remember, I played Yugioh, and my parents supported me to the point of bribing me with new cards if I showed good behavior at school at the end of each week. Yugioh and Pokemon were everything to me as a kid, until a little over ten years ago, where I discovered my current obsession... MTG. For the first few years I still collected Yugioh and MTG cards (I had fazed out of Pokemon cards because I had never learned how to play and my brother despised the concept of Pokemon), but eventually, I had decided to move away from Yugioh entirely and focus completely on MTG, and it's only very recently that I'm pulling out my old Yugioh cards and building decks with them.
Dude, yugioh gave me that special feeling of appreciating life. Yugioh brings people together if it's simple like goat format. New yugioh is like prison ..... it's a jungle
My experience with Yu-Gi-Oh and school was a weird one, and one where I wish I could go back in time and slap my younger self. My elementary school had no restrictions when it came to card games, other than you couldn’t play during class (obviously). However, there was this one teacher that would tell us to stop, and funnily enough, called them, “Pokeeman cards (yes, I spelt Pokémon the way they said it). We didn’t stop, of course, and always found new spots to play. The thing that I want to slap my past self for is that the guys I played with were not the most best of people. They had really good cards, and they technically got me into it, and they knew they could take advantage of my stupidity when they saw I had a really strong synchro and a number card. So, they played what we called “Bet Duels,” where, you guessed it, each player bet two cards, and the winner got both. I ended up losing those two because of that. However, I ended up finding the deck of the guy that I lost my synchro to, and I stole it back during a free period where I knew he wouldn’t be in class to see me. The next day, though, he caught me red-handed and told me to give it back. And I, wanting to be honest, STUPIDLY gave it back to him since I had brought it with me. Later, these guys ended up getting a card that they could summon on the first turn and wipe me out instantly, so the game just stopped being fun and I essentially severed ties with them when it came to Yu-Gi-Oh
Thanks for this! I'm like over 40 and still love this stupid game! I learned how to synchro and xyz summon! I built like 7 decks while we've been in lockdown, and have dueled my kids till we are sick of each other! But it's fun! I think people need to lighten up and just learn to have fun!
This is such a lovely, wholesome, cool and relatable video, thank you for sharing your story! Yu-Gi-Oh! definitely carried me through a lot as a kid and it still does today as an adult. I got back into it over the past couple of years, I'm collecting cards like crazy, playing Duel Links and want to properly get into the TCG for the first time in my life and it is so much fun, I definitely absolutely don't care what others think about it, cause it makes me happy. ❤ Awesome video, really loved it!

You talking about this reminds of the time when kids in my school were actually betting on Beyblade matches during recess like between all the we actually had a Beyblade king but are school starting banning them cause kids were stealing them which sucked at least it lasted almost 2 years but it was fun
Yes, we had like tournament everyday after school and everyone had their most iconic beyblades (mine was Leo cuz my horoscope is Leo) and we go all anime stile and battle while the older kids betted on matches. Only true india gang remember beyblades
New subscriber here and I love your story! I grew up on Yu-Gi-Oh as well! The Dark Magician is my all time favorite monster in the game and I still combat against my older brother with his Blue Eyes White Dragon deck sometimes. Currently, I play Lorcana, but I always treasure the memories that I had with Yu-Gi-Oh.
I legit had the exact same experience, my friends and I would all play everyday on the bus for our hour long bus ride honing our skills and improving our decks, it felt like we were living in the yugioh world.
I never tried to play YuGiOh at school *that* frequently, but I must say that I once held a one-week-long authorized class about YuGiOh and I managed to teach a lot of people how to play by making them temporarily use one of my 20 decks (I managed to reduce them recently because they were trash). It was really fun and people loved those "lessons" to the point where they ditched other courses and came to our classroom to play. It was really beautiful and I really miss those days.
i dont know what's with me, but its just so aesthetic, and hit me the chill feeling every time i see a pile of card deck, a small pile, around 40 cards, and it just have that aesthetic brown edge, with a browner inside and a dark circle at the middle, the way Yong drew the animation, everything around the yugioh deck is white, but the small pile of yugioh deck is the only one with color! (ayo im not trying tro be racist guys but it is what i think it is, no hate here) but thx for making that beautiful artwork of just a simple, yugioh deck, the aesthetics just hit me every time i see it
Love this video. It was recommended to me and I'm not disappointed with the wonderful algorithm. I fully agree and understand you. I still watch the original 4Kids anime even although it is a wee bit cheesy. That's just part of the charm I think (especially the scary finger guns 😋) and despite being almost 26 now, I still play when I can and I'm on Duel Links every day even sometimes stream it. When I met Dan and Eric here in the UK, twice, those were some of the best days and memories I'll cherish forever 😁

I still remember when I was in primary school, my mum would most of the time be late from work, so I got put into an after school care program and almost every kid I spoke to had decks that had all the ace monsters like dark magician, blue eyes, red eyes, etc. but around this time yugioh gx had been around for about a year now and no one had a E-hero neos for some reason. I remember everyone got given booster packs as a end of school year Christmas gift, everyone was pulling out the armoured dragons, the ojama's and ultimate tyranno. but when I opened mine and the first card I saw was neos. I'm not going to lie, but I remember shedding a few tears and screaming at the top of my lungs. I got Neos and immediately put him in my deck of random elemental heros and cyber dragons. One of the best moments of my primary school life ever. From that point on, whenever someone wanted to duel with me, I've always had Neos.
Ngl, my mom had a "no taking your cards to school" rule, I went to public school, they didn't really care after 3rd grade (4th year whatever you want to call it). Taking them to school one day, is the only reason I have one of my best friends today (7 years later).

When you actually find someone who actually plays yugioh as a teenager or an adult, is one of the best feelings. They are so rare to find. Most of the time they are ashamed they like it, or stopped playing because no one else liked it. I really like people who don’t care. I tell people that I always carry a deck or two on me. I never leave my house without one. I’m always ready to duel. lol
My little brother is now in his Pokemon phase and I was (and still am) a huge Pokemon fan. It feels so good to see all my old cards (he has all of them because I don't need them anymore), I even explained the Pokemon card game to him, we built some decks and fought against each other. And I also have to tell him, wether the "facts" from his friends about some cards are true or just complete nonsense. It feels nice to see someone, who has fun with the stuff I grew up and to kinda teach them all about it :D

The teacher took my cards away and they also threw them in the trash one time, I just took them back. The time they just took them and I took them back, the teacher got mad, but I asked her if she was trying to tell me that stealing is okay and then she just let me have them and didn't take them after that
Hey man, Aztekipede and Shield Worm still see play today. Your insect deck still does things! Not to mention, I feel some resonance with you in Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! In the bug department. Always loved the designs and arts. Just couldn't keep up with the meta I guess?
3:50 Or giving it to someone else, lol 😂 When I was in school maybe like in 2006 the teacher took both my and my friend cards. It didn't last for a day, I could be wrong but think it lasted til the end of school year then the teacher gave the card back. And well... The teacher gave his cards to me too. And that's how I got my foiled Dragon Master Knight Fusion card. I think he moved out before the teacher gave the cards back so that might have been the reason why. I LOVE YU-GI-OH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy crap. You could become a book writer!
That is indeed an amazing story 😂
Now that I'm in my 30's, one of the memories that occasionally pops up to haunt me is how much I bullied the YuGiOh players.
Because I played Magic The Gathering. A real card game for intellectuals. Unlike YuGiOh, that baby game for babies.
Yeah, I was a gatekeeping asshole and I really regret how much of a tool I was back then.
I play both MTG and Yu-Gi-Oh!

I remember back in primary school, everyone was afraid of dueling because we thought we had to give away our best card if we lose xD
That's the OG way of playing, but when you lose you gotta pull the *I NEVER AGREED TO THAT* b*tch move

@@yada119 the manga and show came before the cards, dude.
