It's weird because every time I watch Hamilton, in my head I know "it's quiet uptown" is the saddest song but the moment that makes me cry without fail is Eliza ending the show with "who lives, who dies, who tells your story"
I agree! I was crying so hard at the end of the show when I saw it vs just listening to the soundtrack. It caught me off guard how emotional I was at the end.
So, just to make you cry more when you see "It's Quiet Uptown" at the end when Eliza starts crying those were genuine tears because the actress lost a family member right before performances and you can see Lin stop crying and check on her in genuine concern. That part, that realization and knowledge makes me sob every time
There is a bootleg video somewhere on RUclips where she really breaks character during this song and actually puts her head on his shoulder and he asks her if she’s OK
I don’t think the pro-shot performances were that night. There’s a bootleg clip floating around that shows Pippa putting her head on Lin’s shoulder. He whispers “are you okay?” That is from the night you are talking about.
The part in "burn" where Eliza goes "you...you..YOU" gets me everything. There's so much emotion. Especially with her voice getting raspy as though she's crying. Urghhhh chills.
Do people cry more with “It’s Quiet Uptown” than with “Who lives, Who dies, who tells your story”? Every time Eliza says “In their eyes I see you, Alexander”, I cry and cry and cry. I can’t stop thinking on Eliza mourning him for her entire life.
OH MY GOSH YESSS!! That's the part that just kills me 😭😭 although I start crying pretty bad when she says that "Oh..." when she's about to start talking about the orphanage. Such a great show 🥲
When they sing “Forgiveness” in It’s Quiet Uptown, I will cry after that point until the gasp at the end. That moment when she takes his hand and he just tilts his head...I have to go cry now...
i will stand by the fact that you have not experienced that song until you have seen it live. NOTHING compares to seeing it live, regardless of what cast you see. I was bawling in that theater, and then i got my shirt signed by Eliza and I could barely sleep.
When Renee Elise starts “There are moments that the words don't reach There is suffering too terrible to name You hold your child as tight as you can And push away the unimaginable The moments when you're in so deep It feels easier to just swim down” I’m tearing up but when “forgiveness” is sung so sweetly, that breaks the levy & the tears flow! Also “who lives who dies who tells your story!” The harmonies with “I rely on Angelica While she's alive, we tell your story” and “the orphanage”! Lin had been foreshadowing that the whole entire musical, using the word orphan over & over again!! Brilliant!
Act II and even the end of Act I in Hamilton is just triggering crying for me Across the span of 26 songs from Dear Theodosia to Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story I cry
“Stay Alive (Reprise)” from Hamilton always wrecks me 😢 Especially after someone pointed out that the drum beat in the song is the sound of a heartbeat and that beat stops the moment Phillip dies
I have a Rollercoaster of emotions bc it makes me cry but I also giggle partially through when Washington says "she tells my story" and Eliza immediately says "I speak out against slavery" cuz she's savage like that
The stage show is obviously far, FAR better than the film, however I have to admit that Eddie Redmayne's performance in the movie of that song was absolutely outstanding and it makes me bawl my eyes out every time!
I hear the first bar of “It’s Quiet Uptown” and instantly start balling my eyes out. Then when Angelica starts to sing I cry even more. Then when they sing “forgiveness”, consider me gone with tears for about 10 minutes
I'm a HUGE musical theater fan and "Words Fail" is the one that gets me every time. Especially after seeing it live 4 times in a week in Portland last year HA! "So Big, So Small" caught me off guard too. I knew it would be so sad but . . . I LOST it seeing that live! Thanks for the video Hannah, loved it!!
My best friend used to sit by her sisters bed and sing that to her when she was sick and dying of cancer. I get both that and the emotion of Jesse’s voice to cry to 🥲

Whenever I watched Hamilton on Disney plus for the first time, right as ‘It’s Quiet Uptown’ came on, the sky opened up and it started pouring outside! Made me almost cry even more. And literally _as soon as the song was over_ it stopped raining. I was so sad!
"She Used to be Mine" is one of my favorite Broadway songs, but whenever I attempt to sing "she is broken and won't ask for help," the emotion makes me choke up, lose my voice for a moment and I get chills. Love Jessie Mueller, but I don't feel that the Tony performance was her best rendition of it.
congrats on your coming out hannah!! love you a whole bunch! also highly recommend reacting to anything christian borle, pentatonix, or jeremy jordan’s “the day i saved the greatest showman”
EVERY SINGLE TIME I listen to who lives who dies who tells your story i just burst out crying, I think it’s partly because it’s just sad song after sad song leading up to it and then once it gets to the end my heart just breaks💔
Still Hurting from The Last 5 Years slays me!!! A friend gave me a CD from the show and said you have to listen to this. Not even a minute in I was bawling...and that is the freaking opening of the show!!
I listened to the entire DEH soundtrack and I had to immediately listen to Beetlejuice afterwards to cheer myself up. Musical theatre can hit HARD Edit: I think I may need to watch that slime tutorial. I need the ✨full emotions✨
Additional songs to make you cry: Next to Normal - How Could I Ever Forget Rent - I'll Cover You (Reprise) Les Miserables - A Little Fall Of Rain Hadestown - Wait For Me Reprise Legally Blonde - Legally Blonde Lightning Thief - Tree On The Hill Falsettos - You Gotta Die Sometime or What Would I Do Matilda - I'm Here (Story 4) Shrek The Musical - Who I'd Be
Hadestown is one of those extra special musicals that you can't just listen to one song and cry. The entire musical builds up to that one epic moment of devastation and heartbreak. There is no 1 song I can pick out that makes me cry, but listening to the whole thing can make me bawl on and off throughout.
The one that always gets me, but isn’t in here, is “what would I do” from falsettos. I weep every single time, not kidding, when it gets to “ once I was told that good men get better with age, we’re just gonna skip that stage” I cry. 🥲🥲
YEESSSSSS this is more true than anything. That one always gets me and so does you gotta die sometime. Also just the moment at the end in the revised one from 2016 when Jason puts the chess piece on Whizzer’s grave LITERALLY made me burst out crying haha. Falsettos is soooooo brilliant and beautiful
I love "It's Quiet Uptown" and it's definitely emotional, but the part of Hamilton that really got me is the very last song, "Who Live Who Dies Who Tells Your Story", pretty much from the part where Eliza says, "Oh I can't wait to see you again" to the end... literally shivers and tears every time.
I love Natalie Llerena so much. Fun fact we were both in a production of Spring Awakening together and I couldn’t stop my jaw from dropping every time she sang.
I have a hard time getting emotional at songs when I don’t have the songs that build up to the emotion, but that little snippet of So Big, So Small had me immediately in tears, like always
Oh GOD, I literally cannot listen to So Big, So Small from DEH without sobbing my little eyes out. That little piece you showed there? That already made me sob! It's too much, I can't
Oh man I'm Here with Cynthia and Words Fail with Ben were two of the moments where I absolutely sobbed in a theatre. Cynthia live was just magic, one of the few mid-show standing O's I've seen.
2 tear jerkers are “All you wanna do” the entire song growth is just AGH and “Heart of Stone” from SIX the musical, they are both so sad and amazingly beautiful
I'm Here is one of the few musical theatre songs that make me cry. What's amazing is that I haven't even seen the musical, I've only read the book. The song captures the heart of Celie's character so perfectly.
The Color Purple will ALWAYS break me. Movie, Musical or Book. But the way Cynthia Erivo portrays Celie...is just earth shattering. Thank you for coaching my singing for this with me ♡
Everyone thinks the Evan songs are the tearjerkers of the musical, but So Big/So Small is the secret tear-duct killer that no one is expecting. I was WEEPING.
Bare: A Pop Opera is one of my favourite shows of all time! Would you ever consider doing a Bare vid? Maybe reacting to songs or diff performances of some of the bigger songs? Also you really need to react to Solea Pfeiffer, she is incredible
It's quiet uptown was the only one who made me cry but I think that's also because it's the closest to my heart. (and never saw the other musicals, and story is always important with this) I never know what will make me cry. (but like my husband says, you don't need much to cry.. 😅)
Oh, Hannah 😭 I will NEVER recover from Lin-Manuel’s performance of “Hurricane” in Puerto Rico. I LOST it! NOT A DRY EYE IN THE AUDIENCE. So, by the time “Stay Alive (Reprise)” and “It’s Quiet Uptown” came, we were all gone.
I don't know why but Me and the Sky from Come From Away makes me cry literally every time haha right after she says "the one thing i loved more than anything was used as the b*mb"
The first time I listened to that soundtrack, I sobbed. Just ugly cried. The hardest part for me was when Hannah tells Beulah that her son's body was finally found in the World Trade Center in "Something's Missing".
I found out a while ago that Cynthia Erivo once visited Arundel in England which is about 15 minutes away from where I live. When I was younger I went there most weekends. I almost passed out. The idea that I could have bumped into Cynthia Erivo was agonising because I would indeed have got down on my knees and bowed like you said. I seriously would have fainted haha
i was already sobbing halfway through the FIRST act of bare: a pop opera when i watched it for the first time. you can’t imagine how much i was crying by the end.
One song that punches me in the guts every time is Me And The Sky from Come From Away. I've cried in the middle of the street when that got to "and the one thing I loved more than anything was used as the BOMB"
See the song that always gets me in CFA is "Something's Missing", it's like reality has hit these people super hard after going back to their normal lives.
I had the privilege of teaching Olivia Henley when she was a freshman preparing for this role. Of course she taught me so much more than I could ever teach such an amazing talent!! She's really special and I know she will do great things. I always enjoy your videos...you're so fun an cute to watch.
After a year of being a fan of the soundtrack, my sister and I flew from the Netherlands to London purely to see DEH. As soon as we heard the first piano notes before Evan's (Sam Tutty in our case, HOLY HELL SO GOOD) we both started BAWLING, and I don't think we stopped til intermission, then we started again haha
Burn from Hamilton, words fail, and used to be mine gets me every single time and somehow every time Cynthia Erivo sings I cry tears of RESPECT. She’s just so freaking powerful and perfect

Wait she came out ???
check her tiktok!
Yes, she should 100% react to the Jeremy Jordan vid
came out as what?
she came out? what have i missed omg when was this
Talking about Hamilton, I cry like a baby during The monologue in The world was wide enough. And Who lives who dies who tells your story.
EVERY SINGLE TIME I listen to who lives who dies who tells your story i just burst out crying, I think it’s partly because it’s just sad song after sad song leading up to it and then once it gets to the end my heart just breaks💔
@@larat8252 omg yes can we just talk about when eliza says: “in their eyes i see you alexander” CRY ME A RIVER
@@aliceborgogno1452 yess omg that sentence is just aaa😭 HEARTBREAKING 🥺
Still Hurting from The Last 5 Years slays me!!! A friend gave me a CD from the show and said you have to listen to this. Not even a minute in I was bawling...and that is the freaking opening of the show!!
"All my life I've lived for loving you--let me go now." LITERAL TEARS EVERY TIME. Just that one line. TEARS.
I listened to the entire DEH soundtrack and I had to immediately listen to Beetlejuice afterwards to cheer myself up. Musical theatre can hit HARD
Edit: I think I may need to watch that slime tutorial. I need the ✨full emotions✨
Weirdly, the end of Beetlejuice makes me kinda emotional? Like, when Lydia sings "I'm home" I always get a little misty lol.
@@emclaire7027 Same!
@@emclaire7027 also home, always gets me
@@emclaire7027 home definitely gets me, but the rest is hilarious
Hannah if you really wanna cry watch Cynthia Erivo's last performance of "I'm Here" it's heart shattering.
I just can not control my emotions around One Day More from Les Mis. My body is never ready
what a MOOD this is me lol
@Zofia Graham aw thank you! I'm so so happy to have you there
OMG hiiiii I love your channel!!! :D
@@sylviab8482 hello Sylvia dear :) Thank you so much!
How is nothing from Next to Normal on this list? That entire show breaks my heart a million times over.
THANK YOU. I don’t think that show gets the love it deserves
Additional songs to make you cry:
Next to Normal - How Could I Ever Forget
Rent - I'll Cover You (Reprise)
Les Miserables - A Little Fall Of Rain
Hadestown - Wait For Me Reprise
Legally Blonde - Legally Blonde
Lightning Thief - Tree On The Hill
Falsettos - You Gotta Die Sometime or What Would I Do
Matilda - I'm Here (Story 4)
Shrek The Musical - Who I'd Be
Yo WHERE IS HADESTOWN the ending of that makes me sob every time
I just finished listening to it for the millionth time before watching this
@@estherriley6879 Yeah I listen to it all the time 😂
Honestly, I know it’s not sad, but wait for me reprise makes me weepy EVERY SINGLE TIME
Hadestown is one of those extra special musicals that you can't just listen to one song and cry. The entire musical builds up to that one epic moment of devastation and heartbreak. There is no 1 song I can pick out that makes me cry, but listening to the whole thing can make me bawl on and off throughout.
Every godamn time We Raise Our Cups comes in I’m gooooone I’m crying it’s over
The Come From Away soundtrack makes me cry so much. Just every song from it.
ikkk it’s so bittersweet
mhm
Ikr I listened to it for the first time while doing homework and I was NOT PREPARED
@@kyliekjorsvik i was helping clean out the garage and on the verge of sobbing
The only song to ever make me cry from the soundtrack alone was “something’s missing”. Made me tear up multiple times while in the car.
The one that always gets me, but isn’t in here, is “what would I do” from falsettos. I weep every single time, not kidding, when it gets to “ once I was told that good men get better with age, we’re just gonna skip that stage” I cry. 🥲🥲
God, the entire second act of Falsettos is just heartbreaking
me omw to cry through the entirety of falsettos again
YEESSSSSS this is more true than anything. That one always gets me and so does you gotta die sometime. Also just the moment at the end in the revised one from 2016 when Jason puts the chess piece on Whizzer’s grave LITERALLY made me burst out crying haha. Falsettos is soooooo brilliant and beautiful
WHAT WOULD I DO BREAKS MEE
i cry at unlikely lovers too 😢
I love how she had the “Squirrel!” moment.
“I’m crying! Oh look my sign!”
It’s adorable.
without fail , every time Cynthia starts that first note -THE TEARS ARE FLOWING
I cried when watching It's Quiet Uptown because for the whole song Eliza was stone face the entire time until the end. I couldn't stop crying.
That song makes me sob uncontrollably.
I love Natalie Llerena so much. Fun fact we were both in a production of Spring Awakening together and I couldn’t stop my jaw from dropping every time she sang.
Hey! That is so cool! I hope she saw this video!!
aren’t you LITERALLY elphaba💞💞💞💞
When Ben platt says “would they hate it too” I SOB every. time.
My son is 12 days old and “Its Quiet Uptown” hits so different 😭😭😭😭
Ditto, except I've seen the movie but not read the book. But I want to see the play so much!
Oh you must have seen Dear Evan Hansen with Taylor Trensch... I went to high school with him and he’s always been pretty brilliant.
The Color Purple will ALWAYS break me. Movie, Musical or Book. But the way Cynthia Erivo portrays Celie...is just earth shattering. Thank you for coaching my singing for this with me ♡
Jennifer Laura Thompson does not get enough credit! Her begging for Evan’s lies to be real MAKES Words fail truly heartbreaking
Both mom's added such poignant depth to the show. As a mom, I felt all their feelings!
The entire show of Bare: A Pop Opera makes me cry more than any other show
Everyone thinks the Evan songs are the tearjerkers of the musical, but So Big/So Small is the secret tear-duct killer that no one is expecting. I was WEEPING.
Hannah: "Okay, now we are going to listen to Bare"
Me: "Kat? Katherine Steele? Theatre Thursday fam?"
Yess hello fellow cult members
BAPO! got to love heartbreak 💔
I sobbed for the entire act two of DEH... like literally sobbed lol
Same.
Bare: A Pop Opera is one of my favourite shows of all time! Would you ever consider doing a Bare vid? Maybe reacting to songs or diff performances of some of the bigger songs? Also you really need to react to Solea Pfeiffer, she is incredible
I agree with bare. It freaking destroyed me
I cry throughout all of Bare a pop opera.
@@booklover8081 SAME i don't let myself listen to it bc I know I'll just break down
Yes please!!! Such an underrated show
Bare is one of my favorites too!
you had me at it's quiet uptown i have listened to the show but i always breakdown from when theodosia dies then it's all down hill from there.
It's quiet uptown was the only one who made me cry but I think that's also because it's the closest to my heart. (and never saw the other musicals, and story is always important with this) I never know what will make me cry. (but like my husband says, you don't need much to cry.. 😅)
Oh, Hannah 😭
I will NEVER recover from Lin-Manuel’s performance of “Hurricane” in Puerto Rico.
Same!
Agree! I wondered if anyone was going to mention come from away, many of the songs break me!
The first time I listened to that soundtrack, I sobbed. Just ugly cried. The hardest part for me was when Hannah tells Beulah that her son's body was finally found in the World Trade Center in "Something's Missing".
It's quiet uptown gets me LITERALLY every time cause I would blast it in my earphones while my parents fought soooooo
Hamilton It's Quiet Uptown gets me every time. The tears just pour. Thank you for this. I hadn't heard a few of these.
I literally can’t even think about Bare without crying that whole show is so emotional but I’m absolutely LOVING this Bare representation
I love that bare is getting some love!
I saw Ivy in the thumbnail and when i tell you i got so excited... my favorite musical of all time under deaf west spring awakening
ikr bare needs attention
Bare is a masterpiece but i cant get through act 2 without crying 😭
yesssssss
too be honest i dont cry in all grown up, the killers for me are cross, bare, and absolution
i was already sobbing halfway through the FIRST act of bare: a pop opera when i watched it for the first time. you can’t imagine how much i was crying by the end.
Yeah I was ugly crying through almost whole thing and keep doing this while listening to soundtrack...
Unrelated but- Is that the Unus Annus spiral?
@@callmekc9793 yes!!!
@@potato.pancake Momento mori, my friend.
“Beth is very sick”
Do you wanna hide the book in the freezer..?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
One song that punches me in the guts every time is Me And The Sky from Come From Away. I've cried in the middle of the street when that got to "and the one thing I loved more than anything was used as the BOMB"
such a good and underrated musical!!!
See the song that always gets me in CFA is "Something's Missing", it's like reality has hit these people super hard after going back to their normal lives.
my favorite crying song is I’ll Be Here from Ordinary Days, it’s beautiful and makes me tear up EVERY TIME.
“I’m not crying, but I am very sad.” My mood for the past 11 months lol
“I’m not crying, but I am very sad.”
I felt this in my soul
A couple others you might like that bring tears:
"Pretty Funny" - Dogfight
"I'll Be Here" - Ordinary Days
Oh my goddd, i sob every time i listen to pretty funny 😭 Linsday mendez's voice is just so beautiful.
“I’ll Be Here” is I think the one where I cry the most, even more than “Words Fail”
Omg both of those have me sobbing!
I don't think I have never not cried listening to I'll Be Here 😢😢😢
I had the privilege of teaching Olivia Henley when she was a freshman preparing for this role. Of course she taught me so much more than I could ever teach such an amazing talent!! She's really special and I know she will do great things. I always enjoy your videos...you're so fun an cute to watch.
Literally bawl EVERY. TIME. I watch Hamilton "It's Quiet Uptown". I could only imagine what it's like to see it live! Maybe one day 🥺
I don’t know what it is specifically but in the Wait For Me Reprise the Acapella part always makes me cry
SAME 😭
;~;
EXACTLY OMG
Oh my gosh! I love Hadestown!!!!!
i physically can’t watch it’s quiet uptown without bursting into tears. it’s so beautiful.
Me either...I was ugly crying over that song at 3am last night...
So Big, So Small got me good. But my personal S-tier tear jerker is I’ll Cover You - Reprise from Rent 😭
Yes! Something about the movie version especially always makes me immediately start sobbing 😭
GOD that song gets me every single time, without fail
Do you guys know the extended version of goodbye love? It kills me. Every. Single. Time. And it fucks me up that it isn't in the movie
@@rosegranger2872 Yes! Ugh, I feel personally attacked by that song. It’s so good
@@allisonryan2386 jep. It's one of the biggest triggersongs that exists for me
After a year of being a fan of the soundtrack, my sister and I flew from the Netherlands to London purely to see DEH.
