I just came across this video and got intrigued by title and I must say, learnt so much in very few minutes. Thank you. Well articulated and can be understood by layman kunge Ini asingazive zvemusic .
I am from southern mozambique and a fluent speaker of all local languages, some english as well. This is why i managed to understand fully your today content. Adressing the issue of world cup song plagiarism is beyond zimbabwen borders, is for the entire world and it should be adressed in more inclusive maner. Great video
Thanx Mono, you explain well. My question now is kana code progression iri common to plenty songs then why is it that John Chibadura's Mudiwa Janet comes out as a complaint. We can identify a song by melody not code progression. Patainzwa WC theme song tainzwa Chibadura
interesting, but who composed the WC tune and what are the chances that they would be familiar in any way shape or form with the song by Chibadura known largely in ZW but perhapsalso by ZW folks abroad?
It's called 'Hayya Hayya (Better Together)'.It features 3 artists,Singer-songwriter Cardona from Trinidad,Davido from Nigeria & Aisha, who is Qatari. The rest of your question is the one answered in the video Kimbozw
I have another question for you Mono, as you said that nobody owns any chord progression, why then do we still see some sungura fans accusing some sungura musicians of copying Aleck Macheso's bass solos. This whole thing of chord progression and melodies does it apply when playing the bass guitar? Would be happy if you can do another video explaining this issue of bass solos in sungura music.
Remember I said no one owns a chord progression, but melodies are owned. So stealing Macheso's melodies is copyright enfringement,,its against the law.Zvatosiyana nekutora a chord progression. Macheso uses same chord progressions as Chimbetu ,Dembo & Pengaudzoke, but their melodies differ, hence you can tell the difference kuti uyu ndi Dembo
normally basses follow chord progressions. I assume your question is coming from the part in the video which bundled bass, drums and chord progressions together then changed only the melody or rather top melody. in the case of Macheso's bass solo, the bass is not following the chord progression but rather it is a melody on it's own, not top melody but bass melody.
If cord progressions have been there for thousands of years. How do we come up with new types off music? Jazz, rock, Reggae, Sungura, Rhumba, soukus, macwana, amapiano, kwaito, kanindo just to mention a few. Do they formulate melodies only?
Yes,its just new melodies, except for very few rare cases.By the way,did you know that all these genres you mentioned use 12 notes only?....whethers its Sungura,Classical,Jazz,or anything, its just 12 notes only.
