In this video lets take a look at my HOBONICHI branded A5/Cousin covers. Hi I'm Patrick, welcome to My Personal Playground! A little of this and that, and just fun.
I have a few Hobonichi leather covers - last year I surprised myself by finding the violet leather cover *completely* irresistible. I didn't understand it - I don't like purple all that much - and I tried to wait it out to see if I stopped wanting it. I finally decided to just order it, and...I love it. I also have the TS basic black (the leather cover they always have) and the TS 2022 Seta (the bright orange one). It's the orange one that made me want to wait out my love for the purple, because it is truly too bright of an orange for me. I'd hoped it would patina and darken with age, but that hasn't happened. So I kind of regret that purchase, but the exact opposite has happened with the purple one. It's gorgeous and I adore it. I have some non-Hobonichi leather covers, too. I have a blue Buttero leather TN/folio style cover from Eternal Leather Goods (Colin Hui). You might take a look at Colin's work - he has some covers that look a lot like your Moterm cover. I'm 90% sure they don't have that huge back pocket, too, so they might lie flat. And from what I've seen in people's videos about their natural leather covers, they patina wonderfully.
P.S. The black cover from 2016 that you have was that year's "special" TS cover. The cow leather TS basic black is the one they offer every year. I agree, it's not as nice of a leather. TS = Taku Satoh, for anyone reading who doesn't know. He chooses a "special" leather every year, though...I don't see him credited for any of the leather covers this year.
Hi there! Thanks for this info! I adore my 2016 special covers both the black and the red. I wondered if this years Water Blue was a special one because it does seem to have that texture that the standard doesn't have. I did like the standard but but comparatively, I definitely prefer the feel / texture of the special one. The purple looks beautiful! I did actually have an Eternal Leather Goods un-dyed. It was gorgeous but I gifted it to a friend when I got the Apricot Moterm as they are so similar. The Moterm has worked better to lay flat - but I think my ultimate preference is the Hobonichi covers art this point. I'm not traveling for work anymore so I ordered the Taut this year and I'm excited to try it as it will stay on my desk most of the time, it won't need to fasten closed. We'll see!
