this is such a thoughtful and considerate video! I have been eyeing, hobonichi for quite a while, and had no idea that the paper did not work well for gel pens, because I hear everybody rave about the paper. I think that there are enough planners out there, where I don’t necessarily have to feel FOMO from not getting a hobonichi, but I appreciate the detailed rundown that you gave which included information I had never heard before. Great video.
Glad you got something out of it. I like the overall structure of the hobonichi so much better than anything else I have used so I will continue with it in 2024 but I really wish the paper was more friendly with gel pens. Thanks for watching!!!
I’ve used Hobonichi a lot over the years but I much prefer my SterlingInk. It’s the same layout but cleaner with some goal planning built in. And I love having the two book (Avec ) option. I always prefer a half year planner. Even though mine don’t chunk up too much. Of course if you don’t use stickers or washi you get no bulk. But I like my decor.
Thanks for the comment. I saw a lot of people using the common planner with sterling ink this year and I may decide to try it in 2025 but I want to give hobonichi a try for a couple years before I try something else. The Avec is really tempting for me in 2024 because I really like being able to start fresh and to avoid all the bulk at the end of the year. I think that is going to be my big dilemma at planner ordering time!
No, every year there is a Uni-ball Jetstream with red , black and blue ink. The other free gift changes every year. Thanks for the video, I am always interested in how people use their planners and thoughts on different ones. I love the cousin myself and it is my functional planner for my masters thesis. It has very little decorations besides color coding inks and colored pencils. There are a few stickers and washi tape, but I do not want to bulk up my planner much.
I am interested to see what will be given out for 2024. I was going back and forth this year whether to buy from hobonichi or not but will be buying from them this time. Thanks for the info!
I'm so glad to hear that you are enjoying your Hobonichi cousin :) You're right about the Avec - that a new planner mid-year is definitely exciting and something to look forward to. I prefer the Hobonichi weeks myself. But it also has the smudging issue. Maybe try to make a DIY pencil board using absorbent cardstock paper, that way when you close the book (with the DIY pencil board on the page with the wet ink) it absorbs the extra ink. It makes my pages a little bit better with smudging. :)
They do sell the A6 weekly supplement which is slightly smaller than the A6 and provides the weekly spreads and it slips in your cover easily to have all the sections in the smaller planner. So that’s an option for those anting a smaller size. Smearing is definitely lessened and/or prevented if you use blotter paper. It makes a huge difference. And some gel pens work wonderfully UniBall ONE. ❤
@@heidisplanning anything to make your TRP experience better 😃 Also Hobonichi is switching to Sanzen TRP next year for the Cousin. And pens dry faster and have less ghosting on it. So you’ll enjoy that better too.
