I have learned so much from your videos. Your guidance has given me a much greater appreciation of how to enjoy different alcohols and drinks. Thank you!
Thank you so much! That just made my day!! I'm really just trying to share the little knowledge I have about spirits, cocktails and bartending. I'm so happy to hear that it's made such an impact on you!
@@Lui_Fern And that is just scratching the surface. My wife and I toured the Appleton Estates in Jamaica. Was amazing. You want a history Lesson do one of those. Will blow your mind.
@@greatitbroke yes! I certainly can't cover all of the knowledge plus i myself am a student so i wouldn't know everything anyway hahaha. But that sounds like such a great trip to tour their place!
Thank you my friend! I'm glad you've enjoyed my videos so far! 😁😁 I also hope i don't stop making videos. Please let me know if you ever have any questions or suggestions or video ideas you'd like to see
Hi Lui. I am just now starting to read Smuggler's Cove and learning the differences in types of rum, i.e. agricole versus a rum like my beloved Appleton 8 and 12!!! LOVE them so much!!! This was a fabulous education on rye and such amazing history. I am starting to get in to delicious Tiki cocktails. Rum is amazingly versatile!! I hope everything is going well Lui!! Cheers!! 🙂
I absolutely love the content. You’re actually giving information, which is what I am seeking. I’m going to subscribe today. I’m trying to learn as much as I can about all alcohols. If you like cheesecake and cost River Oaks, Texas, maybe look for me; I make and sell cheesecake with alcohol(including rum) in it. Oh and I love your communication style and the background music!! ‘Preciate cha’!!
Finally found a Rum that doesn't give me migraines. Flor De Cana. Can't you also give me any other recommendations for a sugar free additive free rums? Greatly appreciated .
I love the video. I would like to see a list of runs that don’t have added sugar/additives/colors. You have a really good one about tequila that kinda covers that
it's a bit of a shame but unless there are craft bottlings out there that clearly state it, most rum is going to have additives. in regards to added sugar any rum made, aged and bottled in jamaica, barbados, or AOC agricole regions have any added sugar. this is not true for blends containing these rums however, plantation 3 stars is an example of this. even though it is made from jamaican and barbados rums, because it is blended with trinidadian rum, they are allowed to add a small amount of sugar (which in all fairness plantation do disclose on their website)
good job Lui..... as you alluded to, "rum" is just too large of a topic and to give an overview would be tough. i've actually started to make artisanal rums, not using barrels, so i'm able to experiment with various aging woods, quite fun
Thank you my friend! Yeah it's just such a giant topic. To make a video that covered it all it would take over an hour at minimum. Which no one would watch hahaha But that's incredible that you've been experimenting making your own rum!
Watched a man in the Tennessee mountains have a horse walk in circles to grind the sugar cane then boiled it. Very cool. Also the same thing with Lobster. The cockroach of the sea. Trash to becoming very expensive
So spiced rum is for me one of those things that falls into the lawlessness of rum. It's rum with spices added. Usually these products are inferior in quality because the producers sometimes add more than just spices and end up adding additives and other things to it. Some Carribean countries make real spices rum and I've heard that that is mind blowing good.
You should have worn an eye-patch for this one Lui LOL I had to smile about the company who built the hospital for their workers. Ummm...were they having an uncommon number of thrashing accidents....
Hahahahahahahaha I definitely should've done it in an eye patch. And nah they just happen to be from a poorer area in Nicaragua so they helped build up the community around their distillery but from what I was told it's a hospital for the public in that region.
The title is a huge click bait. I love the passion you're doing this with but a lot of this is wrong. The color classification of rum is so unhelpful. It would be better to classify them via the country they come as it different countries use different styles. "Solera aged" rum isn't even legit. It was borrowed from sherry production. Majority of solera aged rum are just using fake age statements.
Solera system rum is complicated. If it says 23, that's the oldest rum. They keep adding young rums to the barrels. In contrast, El Dorado or Appleton age statements refer to the youngest rums in the bottle

Bourbon is my favorite spirit but rum is my favorite category. Good stuff Lui. 🥃
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it. And yeah there's just absolutely so much variety in rum. It was a little tough to try and fit it into this video.
New to Rum and your vid was a blessing… WELL DONE!
Thank you my friend! Happy you think so 😁😁🙏
Loved how deep you went into the history
Thanks friend! Happy you enjoyed this video 😁😁🙌

Um is incredibly fun, fascinating and intriguing to talk about, to study and even more so to taste and try, it just never gets bored 💜
I totally agree!!
Really enjoyed the video and all the info, thanks Lui!

Your pronunciation of cachaça is perfect!
I sure hope so. I was born in Brasil 🤣🤣
Truly a fantastic video and incredible information about rum 🥃
Thank you my friend! Glad you enjoyed it.
I learned a lot about rum
Thanks !!
Oh awesome friend! That makes me so happy to hear! 😁😁🙏

I have learned so much from your videos, thank you for that :) I am just wondering if you ever made any cocktail with coffee in your videos?
Hi there! I have recently actually! I published a video this week on an Espresso Martini without Espresso
Please do more video like this!
I've got a few videos like this! I've done one that is what is tequila, what is mezcal, what is Cachaça, what is pisco and what is Genever.
Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're so welcome! 😁🙏

Hi Lui, very interesting. I have about 6 or 7 different rums.
Nick from York
Hi Nick, rum is so varied! Having a collection of different ones is definitely the way to go.
Are you sure the Wray & Nephew can burn on its own? I've tried it several times, but it doesn't seem to work. Thanks!
The navy strength rum is at an alcohol level where if the rum spilt on the gunpowder it would still ignite.
Oh wow! Thank you for sharing. That is an incredible bit of info.
Came looking for this ❤️
Actually, if rum is navy strength, it doesn't ignite. That's why they took on board such rum
Your opinion on goslings 151 black seal rum??
Are some rums supposed to smell and taste like paint thinners ans industrial glues because I've bought some that were like that?

hey buddy, often i see a recipe call for "spiced rum" Whats a spiced rum? all i see are sailor jerrys in the supermarket that are those

Basically Spiced Rum is what they call for when they want to just cover up the real taste. Basically, how Coca-cola would make Rum.
You should have worn an eye-patch for this one Lui LOL I had to smile about the company who built the hospital for their workers. Ummm...were they having an uncommon number of thrashing accidents....

If you can get a damoiseau rhum to do a ti punch ! Would be fantastic !
I'll have to keep an eye out! I'd love to try it!!
Fundamental question...
If a rum is 35% apv, what's the remaining 65%?
Is there well made rum vs not well made such as there in in Tequila?
Absolutely 1000%. That is true for every Spirit and alcohol on the planet. It's an agricultural product at the end of the day.
I came here after watched pirates of Caribbean movie 🍿 :3
Old monk is best rum in world
I didnt finish it. Too many things need to be corrected.

Love the info, but "YOUR HANDS"!!!! Dude, your hands need to be nailed to the bar!!
A video basically saying nothing
Lol okay 👍
