    They have these roles/positions/responsibilities during the basic training. If they pass this qualification and apply for a job inside the armed forces their role/position/responsibility will be taken into consideration. But they more or less start from scratch again. Then await more advanced training. And, if they want to become a professional hired leader they need more leadership courses under their belt, to obtain a rank. If you go into the conscript reserve you may maintain your leadership role by doing complementary training, from time to time.

    Regarding position:
    Sweden has 70 years of experience in mass testing, evaluation and positioning of recruits. Every year about 50 to 100 thousand of recruits where evaluated in test centers around Sweden. Physical tests, background checks, talks with a psychologist and specialty tests. (extra physical and psychological for jaegers for example, brain test for crypto people and so on). In the end the process was (and still is) mostly able to know which people will be leaders and in leading positions within a group. The process will then pre position them as corporals, sergeants of different levels.
    These people are all pre tested to be able to stand a Jaeger position. If you have payed attention they all come from athletic backgrounds and it seems they are reasonable smart all of them. The basic training and pre testing is weighed together and they are given positions accordingly.
    The Swedish and Finnish conscription systems was (and probably still is) one of the best in the world using data, science and research to position people in the positions they where best suited for.

    When i did my conscription back in 2009, the ones that were to be group leaders actually spent one day a week at the local university for a few months doing a civilian leadership course, i wonder if they still do this or if it was a thing they only did at the regiment where i was stationed. If it's anything like back then, the group leaders are selected during the reqruitment process based on the results of the aptitude tests done then. The radio they're using is a swedish "Radio 180", developed by Ericsson if i'm not mistaken.

    During basic training first 3 months, most recruits get the chance to try out to be group leaders (squad leaders). Also during the first 3 months of training, we observe all the recruit's strengths and weaknesses. The strength to figure out what they will be fast at, excel in, and have a knack for. Weaknesses to find out what we need to do to help the recruit to make him/her reach the level of soldier skill they need to be able to handle the rest of the qualification. If a recruit fails in their soldier skill the fault is ours. During this time we look for different things in a recruit for different roles. A squad leader shows initiative and an understanding of the commanding intent with little effort. They also show trust in their fellow recruits, They avoid micro-management of their comrades when on field week exercises, for example. Good people persons in short. The deputy squad leader also shows a knack for details on that.

    As far as medical goes, I think the longest available medical education at K 3 for employed soldiers is 22 weeks, they are not part of a Brigade structure so they could potentially be in a situation where they don't have the same medical support as other Army Units, they might face a situation where medevac is unavailable or will take longer time, so if I'm not mistaken the 22 week educational programme is a lot about being able to keep people alive for an extended period without the support or medical chain that would normally be available, e.g field hospitals/stabilsation points and then onwards to real hospital care.

    The machine guns are the favourites of the free world. Ksp90 is the FN Minimi (US designation M249) likely introduced in 1990. The Ksp58 is the FN MAG (or MAG-58, US designation M240) developed for Sweden by FN and then used by nearly everyone after.
    Administrative Results released a fairly cool vid on the 58 recently.

    So basically during the first 3 months of basic they get evaluated by the ranking officers. Squad leaders are usually a separate application already in the muster based on aptitude tests there and those are placed into the "pool" as it were and get to rotate as Leader and deputy Leader during the basic months too, but even others who didnt apply for it can be picked if they show promise during the re-organizing that was very briefly mentioned a few episodes ago.

    Both the group leader and deputy group leader will become corprals once they have finished their position training. This is only "conscript corpral" though, and they will lose their rank and have to regain it if they decide to stayy in the military after basic training.
    And yes, it is straight from civilian life into this. Most other regiments have group leaders already selected from the "recruitments center". But at the ranger regiment these are picked during the training, this is so that the commanders can so how people act in stressful and tough situations and then pick the most suitable people to become group leaders.
    And all soldiers undergo basic medic training and the team medics training has been increased from 3 weeks in this series to 8 weeks now.

    Back in my days late 80's, in the regular army, company leaders were educated for 15 months, platoon leaders for 12, group leaders for 10 incl specialist privates like radio signallists for forward observers, and privates for 7.5 months. Company leaders reached the Swedish rank of fänrik (below lieutenant), platoon I dont remember, group leaders became corporals and vice corporals which was the level above private. The "professional" officers that trained troops were major, captain, lieutenant, and "fänrik".

      It sounds like it was 1995.
      I was supposed to be a group-leader on I21 based in Sollefteå.
      We where to get the rank of Furir at the end of training and corporal before.
      And yes. It was amazing how we had actual Company-leaders and platoon leaders as regular conscripts.
      Would have been a squad-leader for a medics-group but couldn't go forward with it because of medical reasons. Heh.
      The professional leaders who where quite young and new where Fänrikar and they where often quite gung-ho.
      The captain for our start, we where all to be trained for group-leadership at our intake, was a really calm and collected younger man.
      We where to wait for the privates as the platoon-leaders had been waiting for us and company-leaders before them.
      These last promotions didn't have much effect though as it was given at the end of your time.
      I suppose it would matter for retraining-months. And in war.

    you can go from the cevilian life in to being a ranger when you turn 18 you get a letter in the mail and you have to questionnaire where it will ask if you wanted to military service and a few thounds will get a call back for a meeting where they will do more test and question to determine where you're going so you can say hey I wanna be jagarsoldat or an artilliray man etc and then they will make a decision (I didn't get the call back even tho I wanted to do it )

    In the regular army you get assigned a leader postion from the get go, and its usually 15 month.. for the "jägarförbanden" its different.From my understanding after talking to some active and former officers, some of them did there military service as jägare, is that the officers are at all time evaluating the recruits and recording all interactions of everything that happens. They select a few that they feel show promising leadership abilities, and out of those they chose who will be groupleaders. A note here, im not 100% certain that its still like this, they may have changed the procedure

  • @DanielKling
    @DanielKling 8 месяцев назад +2

    Every 18 year old in Sweden does a "conscription test" of sorts, where they test your physical and mental abilities. This then leads to you getting assigned a specific role, so group leaders, radioman, support gunner etc.

    • @onepluszulu6701
      @onepluszulu6701 8 месяцев назад +1

      Correction.
      Every 18 year old receive a letter telling them to fill out an E-form online, detailing their own perceived health, fitness, willingness to consider a working in Försvarsmakten, etc.
      People older than 18 can also apply to go through the tryouts and consceiption duty.
      Then based on that E-form, some gets a summons to go to a designated mustering office, where they will go through the actual tests, and talk to a recruiter that suggest available positions depending on their results and wants. They make a short list of preferred options. Then they go home and await a letter telling them wether they are to do conscription duty or not. And they might get one of their preferred options, they may get something entirely different.
      I was denied back when I did my tests. Everything went well up until the medical tests where my kidneys just barred me from from even finishing the tests. I tried applying a couple of more times after that but... It is what it is. Can't even apply to Hemvärnet as you still have to go through the same tests if you come as someone who haven't done värnplikten.

    • @onepluszulu6701
      @onepluszulu6701 8 месяцев назад

      @w0t3rdog Yes but in it they may make their choices but what positions they get when it's actually time for it, it's up to the educational staff. Even if they say you should become a driver or an infantryman after your test that still can change during the conscript service. We try to get the right person for each position the defence force deems they need each year from the start. But that sometimes isn't possible

    • @w0t3rdog
      @w0t3rdog 8 месяцев назад

      @@onepluszulu6701 Absolutely. But like, if they have been getting alot of good candidates for Jägare, but need more people for... Kustjägare. Then they may just slot you in there despite you not picking Kustjägare as any of your options.
      They will take wishes into consideration, but ultimately put people where they fit and are needed.
