See I listen to this show daily (2 hrs) BUT it’s while doing dishes, folding laundry etc etc. gotta multi task! Then it’s ok. Plus I’m learning and I’m staying convicted/reminded on being wise with finances. 💪 💰

What Dave and Ken said about social media is so true. It's a time stealer
Yes, but their RUclips channel can also be a big time waster, yet they ask everyone to listen and give them a thumbs up - LOL! The only difference is that I can watch the RUclips channel on 1.5 and skip what doesn't interest me and get through a show in under 30 minutes. Their real time stealer is their 3 hour radio broadcast, packed with ads, and no fast forwarding there!

This is the first time I watched the entire show on RUclips. Usually I hear the show on Pandora streaming. Dave Ramsey is not gone yet, and I am already missing him. Thank you very much for your teachings on financial discipline and financial responsibility.

For Katie, something doesn't math. $20/hr 40 hours a week isn't $28k, it's 41,600.
I was wondering how did Dave skip right past that info. Also, I'm not convinced by her story about her grandma. A lot in this story doesn't make sense.
I thought that, as well. Maybe $28,000 is net income? But I was surprised Dave or Ken didn't say something.
Honestly sounds like she's going out spending considering her take home and not being able to save ? I work 2 jobs and I still have time to dilly dally.
Adding to the point others have made in response to your reasonable comment comma I'm willing to bet that she does not claim herself all year as well. This will result in her getting a pretty big income tax refund for example I make $18 an hour and my take-home pay after taxes after everything every week per paycheck is around $540 a week...this around 28,100 to 28,200 actual take some pay.
Now other variables? I havw no kids aka dependents. Thus my tax filing is more simple..( Shrugs)

Kids love it when you pick them up instead of the child minder. That period of time does not last long at all. It is partly financial but it is how much your child feels you love them when you collect them from school yourself.

For Katie’s case there may be more than meets the eye…why wouldn’t grandma want her in the house? Lesson learned? Are drugs a factor?
Generational abuse. Why was her self worth so low to be attracted to an abuser. Learned from her family maybe? Lots of cruel mothers and grandparent out their abusing their progeny.
Deeefinitely substance issues which is why her GRANDMOTHER has taken her great-grandchildren (however many that was) in.

Isn’t it fucking sad that 100k is not enough for a family nowadays? Most jobs still don’t come close to that. I guess I needed to hear it too, since my hhi is double that and it will motivate me not to quit my job.

Possibly where some of the money is going, too. This is one of those calls where unfortunately they are only left with the information they’re told, and don’t have the luxury of deep dives into the story. In any event, Katie obviously needs help, so the details will be uncovered at some point through their generous offer of support, I think.
Dave was quick to judge based on her word and didn't step back to look at the answer in front of him: a compassionate great-grandmother who is surely elderly taking her ggchildren in to spare them life with an addict.
I know then he is talking about that she may be giving her too much money haha. She is raising the kids not just babysitting them daily. She deserves all of the money lol. I’m in my 40s and getting exhausted just thinking of raising 3 little ones lol

I don't know where that young couple is looking to live in the Dallas area, bur steer clear of anything close to downtown Dallas. It's very expensive there. There are reasonably priced one bed room apartments in West Plano. Willowbend area.
Little Elm, McKinney and north of Frisco are also great areas that are much more affordable
There is a bookstore near me called Books and Greetings in Northvale NJ. Please come do a signing there they host them often!

As a dude also from fort Myers, you can make a piss ton of money considering which construction industry. But also you can get screwed.
ever hear of school bus or car pooling the kids? depending on their ages they want to be with friends and be taken to activities, not necessarily quality family time. And the kids would probably miss that income from your work.

Don’t move to Dallas. I’m in Houston and rent is only going up. Dallas is x2 of that. Especially if they’re going for a major city like Arlington or anywhere close to downtown. The homes start at 400k in Dallas as well. They should stay where their at, if they’re income is gonna stay the same. And his wife is remote where they are now

I think Dave is a little tough on the grandmother. She is housing her grandkids. She knows this gal's history. thanks for helping her with the referrals. She needs a lot of help.

I think a lot was left out of katies story. She may be into drugs and running with unsavory types , and
grandmother is afraid for her safety and that of her grandchildren. Dave should have dug a little deeper before assuming grandma was the bad guy.
18% of $8,000 is $1,440. Average Big Mac in USA is $5.69. That's 253 Big Macs. That's almost one daily M-F for an entire year.
That's a Big Deal for someone who is living paycheck to paycheck.

Every state has to make its budget (unlike the federal government), so if you don't pay it on this item, you'll pay it on another.

On Katie Dave I don’t think grandma is the bad guy here. We only know what she relayed. There’s probably more to this story that she conveniently left out. Sounds like this has been going on for a long time and this is probably not the first or second time grandma has had to take these kids. Also she does not need to take the kids until she is stable for a year or so before you throw these poor kids back into chaos.
Anyone else find some callers can be annoying as crud when they reply with exactly and absolutely and/or Correct when Dave and the team answer their questions with the most clear advice, it’s not exactly or absolutely until you do it so take the advice and say thank you so much is the ‘correct’ reply

I want to start a campground but land is well... out of my reach. Is a loan to buy land to start a campground a reasonable idea?
Atm I make 33k a year. I was in management for a decade but currently I am not.
Considering how hard it can be to make a steady income in that industry, I couldn't imagine being comfortable with taking out a large loan to start off.

Hey Ken, your impressions of farmers make us sound stupid. You probably don't mean to, but you really act like you think we aren't of value or are just too ignorant to get with the times. We're busy, we're hardworking, and we matter. I've heard this impression from you before. Maybe reflect on how you feel about those that sacrifice daily for their passion of agriculture. We love what we do. They are the reason you have food and clothing, but also why you have access to so much more, including in medical devices, shoes, construction materials, so much you don't think about daily.
I knew almost nothing about farming until my daughter moved to Iowa. Now I have a VERY HEALHTY respect for them - thank you for all you do!
Dave, I keep getting loans from online banks and they have never denied me. I have about 150 million dollars in loans now and I'm worried I might get in trouble when I can't pay it. Is this a good case for bankruptcy?

No they're not. We sold my MIL's house last fall. We definitely had an inspection. Three houses on our block sold within this past year (two were last month)...they ALL had inspections.

I think you might be the dork for making a blanket statement that is certainly NOT true everywhere for "everyone." It's mandatory in my state unless you specifically waive an inspection in writing bc inspections check for things that are against the state code and which a person must fix to sell the house.

Why does Ken Coleman always look confused? He'd have more credibility if he didn't always look like a 2nd grader who was just asked to solve a calculus problem...
That's the look he gets when he's thinking. He's probably the best listener on the show and catches details others miss. I'm also not sure he realizes he is on video on RUclips - he always looks and acts like he thinks he is only on the radio show (which he probably did for years before they started having the RUclips channel.)
