  • In the U.S. today, the average African-American household owns just 6 cents for every $1 of wealth held by the typical white household, and blacks make up just 1.7% of the top 1% of wealthy Americans.
But there are black members of the 1% who are working to change that. Tanzina Vega investigates the historical and contemporary racial barriers to wealth creation in the U.S.

Ofcourse. Shallow minds are always dazzled by outward trapings, bells and whistles. Shallow minds will sit and blink at these rich people who don't know you exist and don't care. The govt. is the only thing stopping them from buying your life and all you pea brains care about is that they don't _actually_ show you how wealthy they are. It's like you are inviting them to trick you.

HotSkull who is this in reference to? My loved ones and myself are very comfortable, darling. I don't watch other ppl's money or movements. I am just pointing out the irony with regards to how the wealthy appear vs your new money rich folk. It's always those who have never seen money who brag and wear their riches for the world to see and for those who have always known it, they tend to be very modest in how they dress. That's all.

    • @Carltoncurtis1
      @Carltoncurtis1 7 лет назад +158

mzChocoSensualHedbob I'm talking directly to you and anyone who liked this post. I am telling you it's just trappings to make themselves seem relatable to the common man.
      It's fake.
      It's all fake.
      Even their modesty is fake.
Mark Zuckerberg, a 32 year old billionaire has been dressing like a broke 20 year old college student for the past 12 years, not because he is humble, but because it's brand, aka his image because _no successful, or not, 30 something still dress like they are college students._ Unless thay are actually poor.
Mark Zuckerberg bought the 4 houses beside his just to bulldoze them just so he would not have to deal with neighbors. Normal people don't do that. He looks like he shops at Marshals, Burlington and Payless but that simply a way to seem relatable, but It's a lie. Pure acting. He lives in a rich bubble just like any other rich person.

I don't know if you bothered to watch the video or not but you seem to have missed the context. It is not about the state of being black but rather the treatment that you receive.
In layman terms she was saying, it doesn't matter how much money you have as a black person, you will still get treated as sh*t because of your skin color.

    • @willpower3317

@@corvusglaive5769 I understand the context my friend, and that is what bothers me, that is, the idea that all black Americans are “treated” a certain way based on our skin color ALONE. I just don’t like one factor explanations for complex issues and it seems that successful black Americans engage in this more than any other group. It’s almost as if to say, ‘don’t bother doing what I’ve done because people will still look at you as a ____’. It also suggests that highly successful people from other groups don’t deal with life’s challenges. I imagine you might say that they are just being honest, but I’ve observed (in my humble 30 years of living) that contemporary blacks often exaggerate their racist experiences to prove a point, so, there’s that, for whatever it’s worth.

I think the moral of the story is to create your own. That woman's father worked hard to become a Neurosurgeon and they still turned him down and even if they didn't I'm sure they would pay him less, cause he's still an employee. If you create your own business then you are the boss and you create your wage.

    • @meikoblock
      @meikoblock 7 лет назад +38

Krischeal Gomez yes I agree it is difficult but today there are so many options if you seek them. For example you do not have to go to a bank you can seek out private investors. Creating your own business is kind of uncharted territory because society and all through school they are teaching people to be good employees.

My white statues? They aren't mine. They are your's, and mine, they are America's statues, our history. And you've taken down black statues as well, that are your's and mine.
How is erasing your history going to make things better for you?
Unlike you, I am not entitled, but if you hate standing on 200 years of history that you inherited, you're biting the hand that feeds you, but you are free to go back to your country of origin.
I have nothing against you doing that.

I don't give a fuck what anyone else says. The shit that makes me unhappy the most is that I have to spend so much time doing shit I need to rather than shit I want to. Money would change that, then I'd be happy. If I'm not happy, I'll donate my money and go somewhere remote and just chill til death.

Anthony Will it's how this stuff works.... you can put yourself in play to set up whatever you think that will help you... if that's how you see it for you, then do it.... but the key factor is building relationships with people that are in positions that can help you further a idea...ex. most Caucasians go to college to meet the people who are going to set them up and help them get to the next level, they don't go and just get a degree...but most blacks go to college with the notion of getting the degree and can't find a job...we are under the notion that'll help us get a good job not matter what and that's false..that is also why college graduates find them selves doing something different, then what they spend 4 to 6 years of their lives studying at a institution. As a society, a culture, as a people, we lost those basic instructions that were needed to push a household.. now is the time to be smarter than what we have previously showed the world.. believe me I'm not making any excuses for myself. Im just looking at this stuff at different angle and from my prospective.

    • @anthonyo7717

Networking and knowing the right people will help you, i agree, but if you tell yourself that you can't make in whatever you are doing because you "don't know the right people", then its on you and no one else. You have 2 choices, either you keep on complaining or you work towards what you want. And btw, no offence, but i can tell that you have an "employee mindest". Maybe you should focus on building something for yourself instead of putting all of your energy on working for someone else.

Generational wealth is what I'm striving for. My uncle had it and now that he's deceased it passed down to his sisters and son. He had so many investments that we didn't know about until he passed away. He was retired but silently moving and investing and he spent frivolously to throw us off...(he had this saying that if your money sits quietly too long then the man starts a knocking)! I assume he was talking about Sam! My uncle would appear to look like an old bum but he always told me that when you dress flashy you'll become a target....when we had family functions where he had to dress up, he cleaned up real nice! He told me why he didn't believe in buying high end after an experience of going into the store with a friend that was also wealthy but was stereotyped because of the way they dressed upon entering the store!

go for it.....nobody is stopping you...…….personally as a taxpaying white man its about time you blacks got JOBS, a bit of self reliance..etc so I don't have to keep being taxed to death and subsidising your asses!..maybe we can finally balance the books.
Do you honestly think I enjoy paying tax!?...also did you know that Trump is the BEST president for black unemployment? (and this is the man that constantly keeps getting called "racist" by the left..oh..and btw..Republicans ended slavery, not Democrats).
Im just surprised its taken you blacks so long to realise how to create wealth.(but I get a sneaking suspicious 90% of blacks WONT do this and will continue playing the victim and voting Democrat) and expect OTHERS to hand them something...………"one of these days,,one of these days we will have a leader to give us equity"......pfff….don't count on it!
Notice that whites don't RELY on Government...in fact they are more self reliant and individualistic (usually SKEPTICAL of leftist politics and big government and in favour of a STRONG FAMILY UNIT with conservative values)….
if you rely on Government or the "collective"..you are NOT in control of your own fate/destiny(and this is why blacks, who vote Democrat and expect Government to sort out the mess, are their own worst fucking enemies!)
You are your own worst enemies. And the whole "victim mentality" "chip on your shoulder" attitude doesn't help.
Blaming the "white man" for all your flaws doesn't help either(and will only divide the nation and deflect individual responsibility).

I know your comment was 10 months ago but I have such an issue with this concept that I wanted to reach out. I am a realtor, it is our job (i mean, go so far to say legal and ethical duty) to treat every different race, age, sexuality, family status, etc. Of person with the same level or respect and equality. Yes, when you are listing a house you should take down personal photos and put away things like plaques, trophies, and other family based things. The issue I have with it however, is that these realtors did not educate on how Fair Housing Laws are in effect even for sellers and how impersonal that recommendation is. I am so sorry that you (and the couple in the video - and all others who go through it) went through this when selling!

Or, "I smell spices in here -- do you know what nationality the sellers are?" As a realtor, I never answer this question. But I totally understand why the Browns' realtor told them to take those pictures down. Believe it or not, there actually ARE people out there who care about such stupid things. Mate , it's trickle down economics. If you have more coloureds in the 1% then they are in a position of power to help their own kind. The Rockafellars, Trumps, Goldmans, are all old white money, helping and building an America for white people. Sure, grass roots need attention but attention requires money and no one's gonna give it to you if you're black. The system was designed that way.

@J H ....I personally know many well off people. Many had a father who was self employed in the trades. Sure enough, they "chose" the same career out of hundreds of other choices. Why? You should know. I also know people working in the company their father built. They too "chose" to take 100% job security in daddy's business. Daddy rarely promotes other non related employees in these businesses over family members, unless the lazy family member prefers to keep their low level job with daddy's company. I knew a kid I played with since about 6th grade. He did so little at his fathers large flooring business. But he owned a beautiful 3 bedroom home in an upper middle class neighborhood despite constantly being a screw up and even lost his license due to never outgrowing reckless driving and even while drinking. But daddy still kept him employed. This nepotism is everywhere. Open your eyes to the real facts of nepotism, which results in probably over 40 million adults much much easier paths in life. They never refuse huge inheritance money either. Family owned restaurants alone have easily 3 million relatives working in them, often as managerial type family employees. My college friend was in restaurant mgmt because his father owned 5 McDonalds locations. Guess who he chose to work for among all other restaurants hiring college grad mgmt. grads? I worked as a busboy when I was in high school. The family owned restaurant handed the business to their son when they decided it was time to step aside. This old couple still sat at a table many days per week while officially retired. The old lady was so stupid too...but wealthy! She would sift through buspans filled with dirty plates, glasses, silverware, and leftover food ....and pick out rolls not eaten! Typical behavior of a "successful" business owner! You all keep lying about reality....it's what entitled people so often do. Hell, they can't even debate properly. The proof is everywhere in comment sections.

***** Actually, A'Lelia Walker (Madam's daughter) had adopted a daughter named Mae who took control of the company after her mother died. Mae's daughter A'Lelia Perry Bundles took over after Mae died and was the last member of the family to control the company before it was sold.
The company still exists and I believe you can still purchase products through Sephora.
Also, both CJ Walker and her daughter A'Lelia were both extremely charitable during their lifetimes and in their wills. Giving tons of money the arts, schools, charities, orphanages, the NAACP, and other organizations and individuals. A'Lelia while very charitable (being a well known patron of the Harlem Renaissance) she also liked to spend money, and was known for her lavish lifestyle. So between Spending money on themselves, charities, and the great depression - it all put a dent into what was left to heirs. Though they are still doing well today. CJ's great-granddaughter A'Lelia, is her biographer and director of the family and business archives.

Being black myself i have recognized that there are two reasons why black people have less income. One reason is the racial aspect mentioned in the video, and another reason is most black people are more focused on other useless things rather than working hard in school and in life. Using myself as an example i recently started college being only 16 years old, and many of my black peers have told me that i'm not a "real black person" or they've told me that i "talk so white", it's that type of mentality along with centuries of racial discrimination that holds black people from reaching their true potential.

    • @musammatakter3278

I totally agree with you. Of course, racial discrimination is a reason for this, nobody can disagree and that yes, most black are focused on other things than succeeding. In my class, there are 2 black people who are very smart and are focused on their future. The others are showing off how rich they are and say they want to be rappers. There are girls who literally go on Instagram during lecture time. There are 9th graders who talk about how they vape and drink. My school is dominantly black (85%) and this is what I face every day. They probably don't think about the fact that they might be homeless, squatting at their parents home in the future. This is not black people only, but since there are many black people in school, I can say it's from experience.

Wow! 12 thumbs up to a comment that proves the writer is in denial about thinking "just try harder" works well enough. Ever see a high profile rich person hire a cheap lawyer? Not one in ten thousand have done this. Do the math about this reality. Why not save all those high fees and tell your cheap lawyer to just "try harder"? That's just one example off the top of my head. Better yet, hire a cheap black lawyer...Hmmm...put your money (and jail time) where your mouth is. It's such a no brainer that so many non blacks have absolutely no ability to think objectively. They actually think opinionating is an accurate way to problem solve.
