  • First ride on the brand new 2024 KTM 150 XC-W. The first lap is my first ride on the 2024 bikes and the second bonus lap is after I rode the 2024 125 XC and 2024 300 XC. This might be the most fun 2 stroke on the market for enduro riding. I could see this bike being used as a "do everything" bike with an incredibly high fun factor. Compared to the 125 XC, the 150 XC-W has a lot more bottom end with similar mid to high ends. The new coil forks feel great on this lightweight bike. The 150 and 125 models have benefited greatly from TBI, adding more usable low end, compared to the previous carb models.

    Thanks for the look at the '24 150. Looks awesome. I recently rode my kids 125SX all over Windrock for two days. These little bikes have boatloads to offer even for the veteran. I normally ride a 300 but the 125 was way more fun and I was never left in the dust, rather screaming up front! Definitely need to recalibrate my riding style, but totally worth it. I'm fairly certain I need the 150 to be nearly perfect for me.

      You're welcome. That's exactly how I felt with this bike. It's just so much fun to ride and has more than enough power and with a proper map and upgraded cylinder head, this bike could be incredible.

      Good tips. Could be a real ripper!
      P.S. you nailed it with your mountain bike analogy. My buddy asked how I liked the 125. I told him it was like a fat mountain bike. I should have said an ANGRY mountain bike!!

      Thank you. No, I haven't, but I assume it would be similar just like the 250s and 300s. More bottom end and linear power band. An aftermarket map could go a long way.

    Looking to get one of these for general trail riding. I can get leftover 24 right now with huge discounts. would you recommend it for that purpose? Does it lug as good as the big bikes do or do you need to ring it out?

    • @ShiftGearsMoto
      @ShiftGearsMoto  Месяц назад +1

      For a 150 it lugs pretty good. Much more low end than the 125, but obviously significantly less than a 250 or 300. I'd recommend this bike if you like to ride aggressively and don't mind shifting a lot. It's not for a lazy rider.

      It wouldn't be my first choice, but it'll work. A big bore is better suited for the sand.

    i am an avid mtb rider looking to get into moto. never rode moto. thinking of getting a moto for trail riding. live in front range colorado... what do you think of 150 v 250 v 300. i like the idea lighter active nimble bike. im 185#. 5 8 30'' inseam... without much experience idk if i mind or dont mind the extra shifting needed to ensure im in right gear on 150. i just like idea of smaller not as large powerful bike getting myself into as much trouble (im assuming, maybe thats not actually the case)

      I started riding motocross 2 years ago at 28 years old. Started on a 125 (bored it out to a 150). I'm 5 10 and 172 lbs. It's so much fun. I'd highly recommend the small bore 2 strokes. If you are hesitant, I recommend renting an air cooled 4 stroke trail bike (crf230f, klx230r, or ttr230) to learn how to ride a dirt bike before making a purchase.

      @@kinker200not hesitant about a bike, more so just don’t want to a bike that can easily get me in trouble. But also don’t want a bike I’ll outgrow right away. I’m fairly proficient on bikes and feel I can adapt relatively quickly. I like idea of a more nimble active riding bike that makes me need to be on my technique.

    • @kinker200
      @kinker200 9 месяцев назад

      @@MatroniFitness You won’t outgrow it, especially if you are racing it. If it was the TPI version I say it would be possible to outgrow it within a year or 2. Most people buy the bigger bikes because you can ride them lazily since you don’t have to shift as much and you can lug them.

    • @MatroniFitness
      @MatroniFitness 9 месяцев назад

      @@kinker200ok great. So as a first bike for Colorado, you think 150 or 250 xcw would be better? My neighbor has a 300 xc and he’s talked about being able to chug along in same gear in 300 and having the reserve at altitude with big hill climbs.

    • @airindiana
      @airindiana 9 месяцев назад +1

      Not sure what it’s like where you are in Colorado. Is it wide open trails or more hard enduro stuff you’ll be doing? For wide open fast stuff over long distances a 4 stroke is better and more stable over sitting on the pipe for ages on a 150. For tight single track and woods or up and down trails a 2 stroke is prob best or at least as good as a 4s to start with.
      I’ve got a Husky TE150 tpi. It’ll be a better bike than I’ll ever be. It is confidence inspiring in that it’s light, however it really needs serious skill when climbing boggy or rocky hills. That sounds fine in theory (makes you learn and all that) but it can be a little slower to progress learning when you’re getting stuck halfway up a rocky slope. If you get stuck down in 1st or come to a stop on a hill the clutch modulation available in 1st is pretty much on/off with medium or higher revs so it lights the wheel up. And it needs revs on hills to get into the power as it lacks power low down. It will lug to a really and surprising decent degree if you keep moving but it has a limit and it won’t do starts on steep slopes without revving it out and clutching. A 300 will just start from standstill on a slope without gunning it to anywhere near the pipe so you’ll have better control. Make no mistake a 150 can still get you in a pickle fast if you mess up, all dirt bikes will as they’re fiery things if you whisky them, the acceleration is still very potent. It’s not like a 250 2S though which is far more aggressive if you’re heavy handed with it. But a 150 over a 250 is prob the difference in ending up in a small bush vs ending up halfway up a tall tree 😁. I love mine it’s an ace bike, and very very fun, it’ll look after you and not try and kill you, but I sometimes wonder if a 250F would’ve been better but that’s probably my FOMO kicking in after I get frustrated on steep climbs. You can always try it and see. You’ll love it and if it doesn’t suit sell it and try another. You won’t go far wrong with it as a starter bike. Even experienced riders choose them to compete as they’re rockets when they get going.
