What's bad, is that they are coercing the companies to do this. Epic pushed back and then for no particular reason, they were targeted by pure coincidence, right after. The federal government trade commission ordered them to pay $245 million for "dark patterns" and required them to collect more data on users as well as monitor communications. This is outright retaliation, because Epic was NOT doing anything unique, but made the mistake of being easily made an example of.

This all started with a Canadian company, Sweet Baby Inc., trying to cancel a Brazilian steam user for simply making a steam curator page informing consumers of what games they were involved in. After finding out about the list co-founder Kim Belair took to Twitter telling people to mass report the curator page as well as the Brazilian steam users' personal steam account. After backlash from the community and Kim getting a Twitter ban for a week. Then, their friend and Kotaku journalist (I use that term loosely) Alyssa Mercante jumped into a public discord server and started to ask why nobody used their real names or pictures, asked if anyone woild talk to her about why the page was made, a user did but they never make mention of that. She thej published a Kotaku article saying Sweet Baby Inc doesn't do what gamers think they do. That itself is a lie considering how many interviews Kim Belair has given, stating the extortion tactics they use to get their conpany involved in games, stating they have to force charges, yet claim it is norlt forced but natural. Alyssa Mercante then got community noted after posting her article on Twitter because they left out the key part that Sweet Baby Inc was the one starting a harassment campaign. She then said openly racist things, yet claims gamers are the racist ones. Circular reporting started to happen where other publications started posting their own articles, which is basically a regergitated Kotaku article. Then "Take This" posted a article that this video is referring to, and they are funded by the US Honeland security. Then, 2 days later, Canada fillows suit dumping 300k to do the same.
Gamers are not the problem, we just want to be left alone to enjoy our games. And anyone standing up for the truth is being labeled as alt-right conspiracy theorists when the writing is on the wall. The AAA gaming indistry has been in decline, Indy games have been outperforming, and outselling most AAA titles, simce indy devs focus on fun gameplay and good stories and dont put a huge focus on jamming politics into their games.
Nice try, but us gamers are longer accepting this behavior. We won't fall for the gaslightlighting, and we wint back down from the truth.

Depending on the nature of a game, the in-game chat may often include concepts and keywords that would be concerning to an analyst, if they were found in normal telecommunication. Due to the context, there has never been any desire to actively monitor game chat with the same sort of key word identifiers that have been used by intelligence assets previously .. but as there is now a capacity to _record_ all sorts of communications, and the pattern of use has become 'make use of the recorded material when building a case _after_ an incident', I guess the data goblins want even more junk for the analysts to sift through. The sheer volume of data is such that there is little chance of potential terror attacks being thwarted - not enough field agents to follow up on every 'scary' conversation - but they will keep being nosy busybodies and pretending that it is for public safety, all the same.

Seems like an overreach by the FBI. They need a warrant to tap my phone. Why don’t they need a warrant to listen to my VOIP? Being in a TS or discord room and communicating to several other players who you know does not constitute public communication any more than a phone call to your girlfriend would. This should be challenged in court.

Honestly this whole thing is hillarious. Im proably a gamer, player games the last 20 years or so. When you play games you almost never actually talk politics, religion and such in the communities or when playing actual the games. Most gaming communities bans the talk about those kinda topics, not cause there is anything wrong with the topics themself but cause they often lead to heated debates and when people are playing games they wanna have fun and not a heated political debate. I mean its the same for sports, who would actually start a political debate on the field in the middle of a basket match?
Even then most people like NEVER take actual action. I would argue gamers can be one of the most, if NOT the most apathetic group.
When they came for the gamers I didn't say anything because I wasn't a gamer........
First they came for the Nerds and no one spoke up.
They then came after the Geeks but no one spoke up.
Then they came for comic books and no one spoke up.
Then they came for gamers, BUT gamers are international so they can't stop them all.😂
