Now hold on. You know nothing of which you speak. Before I retired from a different manufacturer, I managed the outbound calling program for a different airbag program. Yes, parts are usually not available when the recall is announced, but so many customers often do not take the recall seriously and when told to stay in touch with their dealer, they are not responsible enough to do that. And yes, letters advising parts are available are sent to the most current address based on the third-party vendor who manages the most recent mailing address for ALL US vehicle owners. This customer admits the initial recall letter was received, so they also received the second letter (and third and fourth and…). The government (NHTSA) requires the manufacturer to reach out to the customer on all safety recalls until the vehicle is repaired. This owner’s story is full of holes.

    • @joshriver75

The recall only involved the inflator. The potential for what we see here possibly killing/seriously injuring in the event of an accident.
In this case it seems the spontaneous deployment is likely due to a separate issue that would need further investigation imo.
This could happen to an airbag that didn't have an inflator failure I would definitely want to know why!
Also important to know that restraint defects in manufacturing is lifetime warranty on all make models in the US.

I still haven't addressed the airbag recall on a car i rarely drive because the nearest dealer is a 2hr drive. I did just unplug it in the meantime.
The BMW dealer sends me something in the mail, texts, emails and calls at least once a week to me and my wife for the last 3 years.
They wanna make d*mn sure I could never sue!

As you can see crappy stellantis products even as far back as 2015. Don't even think about buying the current stuff. If the parts were available like stellantis said the dealer might have given them the run-around because they don't want to do warranty work because it takes them forever to get paid and there's really no money in it. So now you got to prove that the dealer had the parts and were they the ones that are just stalling because they don't want to do the work
    .

She says "the parts aren't available" . Funny they fixed my buddies immediately. His Ram recall was fixed right when he took it in. I even texted him to double check. Not totally buying her story they didn't have "parts" for 3 years.

People should know that SUVs and Trucks are Exempt from any of the crash tests that they put your average car through.
(Oh yeah it has to be mentioned because people can't put 2 and 2 together 🙄)
That kind of damage should never happen from any airbag going off proper position/place.

A discount? F that. Don't buy another thing from that dealer in that state because you know that they don't have your back! They'll just keep you in business with them so they can make money off your misery.

The recall was for a air bag that might go off at random. They never said it was gonna explode and possibly kill people. This is wild i just got rid of my dodge. That is nuts. Dodge should fix that 100%. I would Definitely sue them.

I’m scared of airbags they are too dangerous. I liked cars before seat belts too but I ain’t scared of them. When I’m going to the store down the street in a 25 mile an hour zone I feel like seat belts are unnecessary. We should be able to use as we choose.

The damage on the roof does not look like the airbag as it is pushed in towards the cabin, not outwards, and there is no hole, just some lifted paint off a rusting panel underneath. Nevertheless, the rest of the damage does like like an airbag, and a defective one at that.
