  • Last race of the 2020 AMRA Season. 2018 KTM 350 XCF. After 2hrs of racing won by 2-seconds over Garrett Wichmann after battling all race. had to push my bike through the checkers as I was stuck in the deep sandstone sand. Changed lead back and forth many times. Temps in the high 20 degrees with sleet, rain, and light snow coupled with a wind storm that blew through. Epic race, had a blast, and thanks to Garrett Wichmann for an awesome battle to close out the season. Had Garrett not gone down on the off camber sandstone hillside just a mile or so from the finish line the race was his... but, he and i would have gone out for a 4th lap and that would have been brutal as we were beat. Tough course.

Great ride. Looked tough with all the deep sand. Course markings would be my nightmare.

thanks. A storm blew through on the second lap and blew a lot of the course markings away. The 2nd and 3rd lap was tough to see where to go, especially on the sandstone rock areas.

What tire setup are you using? in the deep sand you were holding some good lines! Tubes? Im thinking about doing the enduro on the 21st.

IRC M5B EVO on the rear and AT81 on the front both with bibs. The 81 up front is my go to for everything in AZ and the M5B is perfect for page. It comes small to go a size higher than normal. The 120 is about the size of a 110. Good luck on the race!!!

are you still running the ktm 350 xcf? how do you like it? how reliable has it been for you?

Hey Jimmy... yup. It's been super reliable. No issues all season. Its slow to start sometimes for a dead engine start like it did for this race, but it just rips and its got plenty of torque so I don't need to be screaming all the time. 115 hrs and not a single issue. perfect bike for AMRA races.

@@desertendurochannel8727 what modifications would you recommend doing to the 350 xcf? what have you done to it?

@@jimmycrowell8854 I think the single best mod for the 350 xcf is a rekluse. Not because the bike is lacking power, it becuSe the bike is so prone to flameouts in the worst way. I tried about everything, including a full FMF exhaust, mega bomb, and Vortex ecu (which helped a lot, but did not completely eliminate the stalls). The Rekluse eliminated the stalls/flameouts completely. Because I’m used to engine braking and the Rekluse wipes most of that out I added a Clake SLR left hand rear brake. I put a steering damper on it but that’s just because all my bikes get one, the xcf is pretty stable without it. For desert racing I geared it 13/50. Perfect for our courses. I also added bulletproof design radiator guards. They are required imo as they totally protect the radiator in all crashes. Other than that it’s really up to each individual. Again, the only thing I think the xcf “needs” is the Rekluse to eliminate the flameouts and good radiator guards. It doesn’t “Need” anything else to make it a great reliable weapon imo.
