i'm not even afraid or embarrassed to admit that my first experience with Thalassophobia was the Scooby-Doo episode featuring The Ghost of Captain Cutler haunting Rocky Point Beach and The Graveyard of Ships. Finding Nemo was also a big one for me as a kid, might as well have been a horror movie lmao. like i was mostly ok during most of the opening bit at the reef, but i quickly realized i was gonna have a bad time when Nemo swims over into the open ocean to check out the boat. that scene really set the tone for me and i was so freaked out that not even the butt jokes could save me!

Let me tell you about a lake in the area of Pennsylvania where I live called Raystown Lake. It's beautiful. BUT.. theres an entire town under it!. The local government flooded a town in 1972. The town is under there. Farm equipment, HOUSES, all types of things are under there. The town was called Aitch. The deepest part of the lake is 200 feet deep and it used as a recreational area now. Lots of boaters and water activities.. i went swimming in it as a kid and I remember just looking into the black void underneath me and thinking about the possibility of a house being down there. It scared me so badly that I never swam in that lake again! Or any other deep water for that matter 😂
Edit: they did tear down most of the houses and such before flooding, but there were some structures and buildings that still remained.

So the boat ferry was a system where you drove up to the dock where there was a pontoon locked in place as to not bob and sway around on the water. The pontoon had a rail system designed to be driven onto, attached the the top. You drove up, paid for the services, and drove onto the pontoon. While you waited for a boat to come get you another employee would chain down your vehicle and make the proper checks to minimize any slack in the system. Boat shows up, he attaches the tug line, and away you go. No need to get out of the car. Just relax.
I know this stuff because my great grandmother told me about a few times she had been on this type of ferry system. Funnily enough that's when she figured out right quick that water and I don't mix. Wish she was still here every day.

Fun fact about the Amazon River: in the dry season it is already pretty wide, with an average of 3.2 to 9.6 km (2 to 6 miles) in its main channel. But in the wet season, it can reach 48.3 km (60 miles) wide. If you could walk across the river it would take 8 hours to get from one side to the other. And if this isn't wide enough, the Amazon River mouth is simply gigantic, at 380 km (235 miles)!

Nah bc I played that stupid Exo Disc game, just browsing for neat free xbox games bc i was bored. Played like the first couple of levels, nice, pretty, fun to pass the time. THEN THE OCEAN LEVEL. There was like a cutscene at the beginning showcasing the world, and then as it passed into gameplay you just crash into the sea. Watching the clip of it I'm fine, but when I played it, it was such a different experience. As my little disc guy got closer to the sea my heart skyrocketed and I literally almost broke my controller bc I was squeezing it so hard. I hopped around the ocean for like 30 seconds before I deadass just quit the game and uninstalled it.

I don't have traumatic experiences related to water, ocean or whatever but I have Thalassophobia for reason which I don't know. Since I was a kid, I can't shake this feeling until I discovered about thalassophobia. There is this one game which always ignite this phobia within me: Silent Hunter. A game where you play as a world war submariner. You can view inside, outside, the telescope (forgot what it's called) of the submarine and torpedo merchant ships. This game has always invoke eerie feeling within me because you're basically working under the ocean in a compact submarine.Things that terrified me always is during night time and I always switched back to the inside view of the submarine, scared to look at the outside because of how dark the ocean is (we were submerged so the view outside will be nothing but empty darkness of the ocean). I always terrified when I accidentally click the outside view, the black ocean scared me so much. Another terrifying thing is when our submarine is damaged and water slowly entered the inside and we're slowly sinking to the bottom...

There's an extended version of the iceberg climbing video, everyone was fine. You can see in the shorter version that one guy made it off the side, but you don't see the fate of the guy that looks like he may get squashed by it.
In the slightly longer version you see that a wave catches him as the iceberg is rolling and pushes him out away from it.
So unless there's an even longer version showing them getting eaten by a shark or something, both those dummies made it out okay

i went kayaking with my brother in north idaho one time in this fairly large river that has some pretty interesting and creepy features in some places. in one place, there was an island in the middle where an old dam was demolished leaving a very deep narrow channel with cliffs on both sides; had to be somewhere around 150ft deep. in the middle there was a buoy and if you got close to it you could see the chain disappear nearly 40ft down into nothing.
there was also a smaller hydro dam downstream but we couldn't get close to it for obvious reasons.

I was at my friend’s summer house on an island. We were paddling a canoe in the sea when my friend’s mom turned to me and said, ‘Look down.’ At that moment, I was unaware of my phobia, just a few seconds away from discovering it. I cautiously peered over the edge of the canoe, and what I saw initially sent a strange sensation through me. It was a long, imposing structure, so close to the surface that it almost touched it, disappearing into the depths of the sea.
‘You know what that is?’ she asked me. I replied, ‘No.’ She calmly explained, ‘That’s an old, colossal shipwreck - an ancient Viking ship, famous in its time.’
The moment was surreal. I closed my eyes, unable to utter a word. It was a profound experience, one that would stay with me forever…
