This channel is a gem! A begginer friendly. I'm glad I've found your channel. I've been wanting to learn how to draft a basic bodice pattern but none of the videos I have watched helped me😅. I am often confused by their explanation. This is the first basic bodice pattern tutorial I have watched until the end... I can now make my basic bodice pattern. Thank you so much.

I have sewn many years and I really like how clear your pattern tutorials are for beginners. One recommendation I make for beginner pattern makers is try the pattern out on some fabric before adding the side dart or hollowing the back. Sometimes depending how curvy you are, more or less of a dart intake could be needed. Sometimes I’ve noticed women need a dart in the armhole area instead of side seam.

Thank you for this. I'm very, very new, and intimidated by darts. I was hoping I could do the waist dart and skip the side dart for now. I'm sure I will have to make several of these bodice blocks before one turns out right, but it's good to hear I can skip these two steps for my first try.

None of the others showed why they measure down from the top of the paper....I could guess this was bust, waist, hip from shoulder line...but I don't want to guess! You have made it so clear. I now feel confident to have a go...THANK YOU so very much! 😘💐

    Hi,
Thanks for a brilliant tutorial. I thought the side dart was to equalise the difference between the back & front lengths due to the bust in the front. My back length is 19inches, whilst my front length is 21 inches. Thus I take out a 2 inch dart at the side.

Thank you so much for this! I am an apple shape and when I made this bodice block, the waist area was just all wrong. I read on another site elsewhere that with larger ladies, the waistline, which is the narrowest part, is usually about 10cm below the bust line at the rib cage. It sounded a little dodge to put the waistline so high but I redrafted the pattern by lifting the waistline and it fit like a glove. I think it does need some back darts though and I'm not sure how to do that yet. I also used your sleeve block pattern and it was 100% and I don't need to do a second draft. This was so incredibly helpful!

Thank you for this video, I really appreciate. But there is more efficient ways than this. Proportion and has a scientific measurements, method and of course scientific explanation . Not just add 1 inch here. Where that 1 inch came from? How did you get 1 inch? I've seen a lot of tailoring videos specially in pattern making because it is the most important. And I'm not fan of those who don't use L-square. It is the most important tool in pattern making.

Patterns are usually drafted without seam allowance. Added to patterns are usually ease. Seam allowances are usually added during fabric cutting.
For the armhole, it might be she didn't add it because of the proximity of the front and back armhole would make the lines confusing.

    • @srivatsaa.r.9936
      @srivatsaa.r.9936 4 года назад

      MADAM,
You raised the same question as i am namely stitching allowance is not marked for ARM HOLE CURVATURE.
i pointed out another draw back of this video which you can see in the comments column of my name UNDER "S"
THE FINAL DRAFT HAS TO BE PREPARED ADDING TWO TYPES OF ALLOWANCES:--
      1. Stitching allowances.
Which she has described with the exception of yr question.
      2. Working allowances
(This has to be added to the actual body measurements to enable mivement of hands, bending of waist, hips movement etc)
ONLY UPON ADDING THIS ALLOWANCE THE DRAFT IS COMPLETE AND "READY FOR CUTTING" AND
      NOT OTHERWISE.
THE BASIC BODICE IS ADDED WITH A THIRD TYPE OF ALLOWANCE ALSO CALLED DESIGN ALLOWANCE IN CERTAIN TYPE OF DESIGNS.
AFTER ADDING THESE ALLOWANCES ABOVE, THE DRAFT IS PREPARED AND READY FOR CUTTING.
FOR SIMPLE DRESSES, THE THIRD TYPE NAMELY THE DESIGN CAN BE NEGLECTED AND NOT NEEDED.
BUT IN ALL DRAFT, THE WORKING ALLOWANCES ARE ADDED FIRST TO THE BODY MEASUREMENTS AND THEN ONLY THE DRAFT IS READY FOR USE. OTHERWISE NOT.
THE STITCHING ALLOWANCES CAN BE ADDED TO THE DRAFT OR CAN BE ADDED LATER TO MARK ON THE CLOTH DIRECTLY,
