I grew up at the foot of Mt. Greylock! So weird to hear your tiny town, Cheshire, get called out in a GCN video. Jeremy is right - mid-October is the sweet spot. Just avoid Columbus Day weekend, as the annual “Ramble” brings tons of visitors to the mountain. The hikers are great, the lazy people driving up to the peak (and clogging up the winding auto road), not so much.
All four! Seasonal differences change the sounds, smells and sights. But I would choose Autumn if I could only get one. The combination of leaves, wood fires, and cider donuts just can’t be beat for a bike ride!
This is what's so beautiful about cycling: finding your own epic rides, being challenged by the terrain and enjoying the best of nature. Thanks, Jeremy, for being so contagiously upbeat and for making me want to get out in the world and ride my bike.
@Matthias Schurz I mean don't get me wrong, Europe is great, in general and as a continent to ride your bike. The coffee is better here :) but the foliage is worse.
I live here and get to ride these routes plus all of the gorgeous rail trails on Cape Cod. I’m a lucky guy. In two weeks when the leaves are down and its dark and cold...it becomes a different story. I head to Florida. New England is unbeatable 8 months out of the year.
I had to come back and re watch this awesome video after doing my own 100 mile New England Fall ride yesterday. The route took me 106 miles through beautiful autumn leaves. Starting and ending in Nashua, New Hampshire, the ride peaked the summit of Mt Wachusett at mile 53. It was an unforgettable day!
For any Harry Potter fans out there, the summit of Mt. Greylock is also the location of the fictional Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Hogwart’s North American counterpart.
Jeremy, your love and enthusiasm for your home state is infectious! It makes me homesick for Massachusetts! Western Mass is so beautiful in fall. Thanks for such a gorgeous video. You rock man!
What is great about this video is that Jeremy mentions all the different types of tree in New England and then he gets to a place called Cheshire! I live in England in Cheshire and the part of town where I live has roads that are all tree names like the ones he mentioned! Uncanny stuff! Great video!
Sometimes looking at England in GCN videos I get a peculiar feeling that the first places that got settled were chosen because they resembled somewhere back home and people felt safe there, whether it was or wasn’t.
@@Kimberly_Sparkles definitely theres a reason they called it New England. Both look quite similar - perhaps NE has slightly more rugged terrain whilst England is a bit more varied, but they have similar vibes
@@Kimberly_Sparkles I do believe people found locations that reminded them of home - they believe they knew how to farm that type of land. Scottish tended to settle in rougher, rockier areas.
I am a Canadian at heart and moved to New Hampshire 3 years ago. Jeremy’s passion and enthusiasm for this region is inspiring and I am so happy I get to ride New England roads and trails. The foliage is spectacular, people are friendly and nature is exuberant. Jeremy you are an upbeat and happy guy and thanks for sharing all of this with us. Another bucket list ride for me and my buddies!
What a nostalgic ride! From memories of the Fitchburg-Longsjo Classic atop Mt. Wachusett to meeting JPow himself at the one hit wonder Florida RR back in the day, this video showed the best of Massachusetts. Thanks, Jeremy, keep up the good work!
Jeremy is the guy I want to scenic tour with. He brings that enthusiasm (and reality) that we all look forward to on a ride. Great addition to GCN and reminds me of riding in Vermont and Maine 30 + years ago. Please send Jeremy to the Lake Tahoe area for a ride. (more than likely many rides, how much time do you have) and bring the whole gang. I've been with GCN since the first episodes and You All never miss a beat inspiring and sharing with us our Love of bicycling. You lead me each day to find time to go for a spin. 73+ years young and 70+ years riding two wheelers. Rubber side down folks and enjoy the spin.
I actually rode up Greylock yesterday! In 1.5 hours I can be at the summit from my house. So fortunate and it’s amazing to see it highlighted here! Thanks Jeremy!
Yay, thanks for highlighting WaWa, J-Pow!! I only lived in Mass for a couple of years but ALL of my best memories come from cycling and/or Wachusett Mountain.
Thank you. My hometown area. Wachusett is special for me. I have rode the Mount Greylock Century. Riding in Massachusetts in the fall is magical. Thanks again. A bit homesick now. Ride to the level of your smile. Continue to share your passion.
oh does this bring back memories I grew up in Petersham, went to college in Greenfield, and rode my Univega Gran Tourismo all over the place including climbing Mt. Greylock, back in the late 70's early 80's. I'm up in the Whites of NH now, with a couple newer bikes, but I remember all my old rides down there.
Just moved from greylock area this spring and I can honestly say it is some of the best road biking in the United’s states! Cool to see GCN make it there!
What a great ride. I have lived in Western Ma for the last 17 or so years. Have been up Greylock many times from the easy and harder side. I ride what we call the hill towns weekly and know the roads you rode. I’ll have to try this ride next summer. Great video indeed.
So beautiful, JPow! Past peak color today on my ride through Chelmsford, Carlisle, Concord & Acton. The only negative to our fall color: it's not around long enough!
It certainly is a privilege to ride the New England roads in Autumn. I have been reveling in the Massachusetts falls since returning from 15 years in Southeast Asia, which makes it all the more special. Thanks, Jeremy, for capturing some of the splendor we have all around us here this time of year.
a beautiful presentation and I find that autumn is the best season to ride in New England. But its true - Vermont has the best colors, crisp tart apples and endless old dirt roads. Ride on!
Great job, Jeremy! Having grown up in New England, I know all about fall foliage. Truly spectacular and miss it greatly every fall season. Don't even get me started on how much I miss apple cider and those donuts! I've gotta get back some day and ride this route. Beautiful!
Great seeing our cycling hero Jeremy Powers out there enjoying riding. Our gang did "the double" last weekend. Up the north, down the south, up the south. Only 60 miles in total, however!
Legend has it that Herman Melville got the inspiration for Moby Dick from the sight of Greylock from his residence called Arrowhead in Pittsfield. When you look at the mountain's profile from there, it looks like a whale. Great ride, Jeremy- thanks for sharing New England's beautiful autumn with us. Massachusetts' tourist board should hire you on as a spokesperson!
Greylock rises above the snow/rain line in the Berkshires on some days. I've seen that great white whale swimming across the grey folds of the hills from Melville's writing desk. It is realistic and moving.
Love the ride. Jeremy explain everything along the ride the history side of the place, cool recommend pit stop, the view and the DONUT! This is the ride everyone want
I grew up in Western Mass two towns away from where Jeremy lives. I went to high school just off of Rt116 and used to ride it all the time. I raced bikes throughout high school and college and know exactly where he is throughout this video. I went to Williams College at the foot of Mt Greylock, that place means a lot to me. JD in the $300 cross bike build was a friend of mine in high school. You're creating strong feelings of nostalgia in me here, JPow.
Amazing! Having visited New England a few times, I can relate to a lot of things in this video. As always, the foliage season is spectacular, and JPow's sparkling enthusiasm makes everything even brighter.
WOW. There is nothing missing in that video. Cycling, obviously. But then: architecture, history, botany, food, geography...and as usual for Jeremy: A buckload of positivity. Just what you need these days. Thanks!
I've been many times lucky to see New England in the Autumn from trans-Atlantic flights, flying into Boston or New York, when the weather is clear blue sky, it's a vast mass of orange, red and yellow. Nordic-type scenery. Thanks for sharing, Jeremy!
Being a born and raised Masshole it's quite nostalgic to see the new england countryside. Especially as I'm now living in the Pacific Northwest, there is something magical about the New England Broad-leaf trees. I would love to see GCN do some ride in the North Cascades area, Amazing road riding (highway 20 and beyond) and probably some of the best gravel riding on earth. True conifer country out here, tall sharp mountains with glaciers and a huge contrast with England, both new and old.
Great video. I grew up cycling in Western Mass. I went to high school right near Conway. I used to ride 116 all the time through Ashfield while training. I went to college at the foot of Mt. Greylock and climbed it many times. To those not familiar with the area: yes it really looks like this in the Fall.
I remember as a Boy Scout heading out to Mount Greylock several times in all seasons. One of the best memories was going out on mountain bikes up several of the trails and then just riding the road down.
I've been a following J-Pow since Season 1 of Behind the Barriers and it's so great to see him continuing to crush it, all while making cycling approachable (and fun!).
Thanks Jeremy for a great ride with some very welcome educational elements, really fun to watch and ... could I have just 20% of your positive energy 😀? Always such a joy to watch!
Apple cider donuts are no joke, my friend. If they were really that fresh, I don't know how Jeremy resisted eating the whole bag. It's a good thing they're a Fall thing.
Hey Jeremy I road up both mountains, I ski at Wachusett. Great to see your content on the Chanel. I picked some cider donuts at the Big Y. Liking it in Woostah, Jim

What time of year would you like to ride this route? In autumn, summer or spring?
Autumn and spring. need to see both to truly appreciate the seasonal changes.

Jeremy is so positive and upbeat! Can’t imagine him having a bad day! Truly inspiring guy 💪🏻😎
He's a great guy to work with and we love having him here at GCN, glad you enjoyed the video Martin
My guess is that, on a bad day, he uses words like "nice" and "cool" instead of "amazing" and "awesome".
Yep.. His positivity would made our bitter guy Ollie the most cheerful guy in UK
His energy makes me want to ride
The guy know the right answer when asked "why do you ride?"

Get out there and ride Christian! great to hear you enjoyed the video
As a European cyclist who lived in Massachusetts for a bit, this hurts so much, it makes me feel too many feelz. Want to go back.
Sorry about that Ralph, hope you get to visit soon and if you can't, that you get out and enjoy a similar ride where you live now :)
