Hey SwitchUp Family - excuse the watermark on the framerate - Wondershare Filmora decided I no longer owned it even though I do. I gave up trying to get it to agree as it was just that small segment. I’m a big fan of Shadowrun it has been a while. Let us know what you think of this one and if you’ll be checking the game out. If you’ve not played these before they are excellent CRPGs.
I have never played this before so I’m excited to give this a shot. This genre is my cup of tea. As for an older gamer with limited time on hand, does the easy mode easy enough to get the story moving if the game gets too difficult on normal? Thank you for the review!
Was really looking forward to your thoughts on this one Mark. I know how much you loved playing them back in the day. I have a feeling this will have a physical release by Limited Run Games.
Popping in here to say that the trilogy is on sale for 10 USD until June 20, 2024, so I'm checking out this video. Thanks for this! Will likely pick this up along with Maglam Lord perhaps.
These games are GREAT. The price point is fantastic for all three games, and they are meaty enough experiences without overstaying their welcome. I can't stress enough how refreshing it is to play a story-driven RPG that isn't trying to dominate all of your waking hours with insane time investment requirements. If for some reason you don't grab them all and are only going to buy one, Dragonfall is the way to go. However, you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not picking up the whole trilogy. These are easily some of my favorite RPG's released in the last decade.
This comment alone was enough to push me over the edge and take advantage of the pre order price. I know they’re coming to game pass so I could have tried them there buuut I wouldn’t be able to then play them on the toilet 😂
@@TheSuperspyk I own them on pc, and will 100 percent be taking them on the go with the Switch versions. If you are a fan of classic PC role-playing games, cyberpunk themes, or the world of Shadowrun in general, you will be very well served indeed.
@@TheSuperspyk Yeah, these games feel very right to be played in handheld. As far as I love Shadowrun, there are other games I'd prefer to play on the big screen, not to sit in front of TV and read a lot of text.
Just to go off the point of time commitments in a game, all three games function off a mission-based system, where you will receive a mission from someone, and you can choose who you bring and what loadsout those people will have (at least in the later two games). Then, once you're on each mission, you will have a variety of ways to accomplish the goal according to your abilities, and you will often have side quests that will give you extra bonuses or will alter the outcome of the mission. The benefit of having a mission-based system is that there is essentially no grinding in the game. The "grinding" comes solely from side quests and interactions with other people, but the game is very doable without any extra interaction. I will note, of course, that these games are very text heavy. If you are someone who skips through text in a game, then you will likely find these games much less interesting, as the text enables a lot of world building and character exposition that you won't really get from skipping the text.
I've never heard of this series but this review has me intrigued. Since it is coming to Game Pass, I plan on trying it out there first before spending the money to have it on the go.
Would love a remake of the SNES version, hell just a straight up HD remaster It confused the hell out of me when my younger self played it but I remember loving the vibe of the game. Also, Switch Up is honestly the best RUclips channel for Switch content. Outstanding work from all involved. Kudos!
Real talk bro. On all points. First time I played it I was fascinated, but I never got past the second chapter; I kept hitting narrative dead ends every time or just straight up dying. But I kept coming back until I figured out I’d need to download a walkthrough, at which point I enjoyed it enough to play it 3 times.
I'd love more games in this setting. The ttrpg is great. And these games show it can make for great video games too. I wish more ttrpgs got this kind of love in the video game medium.
I've always heard how good these games are and yet I've never had an opportunity to play them, even though I even saw the originals at Blockbuster back in the day. I think it's time to finally try them.
Oh man I'm gonna have to check out another review. I bought the trilogy on PlayStation, and I pushed through Returns and Dragonfall, but by the time I got to Hong Kong, I just couldn't put myself through it anymore. The amount of times the game would hang for 10+ minutes was astounding. Also sometimes two and even three songs would play at the same time, giving me an earache. However, if the experience truly is better on Switch, I just might have to get it as it's on sale.
Big Thanks for the Review. I am never sure about preorder a Nintendo Switch Game because of the no refund policy. So you really help us out if a game running well enoug for the switch or not
Games like this with small text in handheld or TV, thank god you can press the home button twice to zoom in. if it wasn't for this option I wouldn't play many games.
Thanks for the info: I'm a fan of the original paperbacks. I've Shadowrun on Steam/pc but haven't jumped into it yet. I do have original Switch, I'm considering purchasing Shadowrun for it now. Again, thanks. 🌻🍯🐝🐈⬛🐈
As an IT person, I’ve noticed a pattern in MY crashes, at least. They appear to only happen to me after lLONG gaming sessions within the same game. My guess, the Switch has an issue clearing cache or memory or some finite resource that once unavailable causes the software to immediately crash close. Definitely mitigated by closing the software every day or so and power cycling the unit. I treat my Switch like my 3DS. It’s always running some game in sleep mode.
Took me about 10 minutes to run into the first annoying bug; The music audio setting default back to max volume whenever you load a new area or save file (doesnt show on the slider). The Master audio overrides this but I just want to lower the music which is too loud. Cant do that without entering the settings after every loadscreen. Edit: It seems initiating a conversation reestablishes custom audio levels after a loadscreen. Real confusing.
I'm definitely going to be picking this one up. Especially considering it's 75% off right now on the eShop. So like $10 for three games seems like an amazing deal. Plus I love the Shadowrun RPG
I've been looking forward to this trilogy coming to the switch for a while. I wasn't going to get it until I saw your review but I got scared I would miss the sale so I just went ahead and bought it. Thanks for the review though I can't wait to play!

June has been an unbelievably strong month for Switch, and July is bringing Xenoblade Chronicles 3! Returning to Shadowrun Returns (no pun intended) trilogy I preordered as soon as I could because, like you say, the Switch is the best place to play games like these! I was bit hesitant at first with the performance but I appreciate you do that first in the review, as that’s the most critical point really when it comes to a switch port on good games already! Great review as always and least the watermark disappeared quickly 😂
I was a Kickstarter backer for the original PC ones and happily bought the trilogy again on both Switch and PS4. Only thing I don't like about the console version of Returns is that they removed your default leather trenchcoat outfit from the game. I actually spent most of the game in that outfit when I played on the PC.
I can't finish the first game due to a bug that doesn't let me take control of my character after a certain point in game 1. Anyone else with the same problem?
@@SwitchUpYt absolutely. So there is a mission in the game where you have to jack into the matrix. It's right before the hospital. Camera works fine. The menusymbol blinks when i press + but doesn't do anything. I've somehow gotten around that problem, but now I have a similar problem near the end of the game. A neutral character wants to jack in during a fight and the game does not let me press start to let me jack in. Its all very frustrating. Thanks for the work, love the reviews!
All three are on sale now. Any recommendations as to which I should start with? I'm not sure if I should go in release order or if one is better than the others
Dragon fall and Hong Kong are very good and the three are standalone games that just use the same rules. Returns isn't even worth playing but I've replayed the other 2 several times.
Things not mentioned in this review. Text is barely readable in handheld. Restart forcing bug. Characters get stuck behind objects, preventing progression. This happens frequently. Save often.
Pre-ordered this a few days ago since I've wanted to move beyond the Android versions of Returns and play the other two games, but for some reason the games haven't unlocked in my region yet. Hoping I won't have to wait until noon or later for it to pop, but I'll be patient! Anyone else still waiting for the unlock?
When he mentioned the font was a 'little' too small, I should have known it was WAY too small for me. I broke the cardinal rule and pre-purchased. I have an oled, but the font is still way too small. It's unplayable. I would not recommend until a font adjustment is added if your eyesight isn't 20/20.
I already own them on PC but my brain kept pushing the "but you could be playing in bed. In BED" argument. Glad I picked it up while it was still on sale.
looks like a good indie game to play. man switch has a lot of indie games and its really hard to choose which one is the one that right for you. thank you for reviewing this games. Keep it up my man!!
ah yeah ,kinda annoying that u have to ,ait for it to unlock ,for me its allways 5pm, so if i have a Day off when a New game releases i cant play it till the day is almost over,so sad lol. cheers
Great review, never did those game while they are on my radar since years 😅 Gonna pick them up but on serie S. Hope i'll enjoy them but i'm sure i will.
I bought these games when they released, but I never played them much because I do not like playing games on my phone. I'm a huge fan of the SNES game. I thought what I played of these games was cool. definitely buying this on the switch.
This game is different than what I was expecting. I thought it was going to be more like Divinity but happy it's more like XCOM. I will be getting this
Stellar review, stellar games, played them since snes days. The modern versions are absolutely top drawer and probably the best cyberpunk game on switch now imo. (The observer with Sir Rutger being the other). Trilogy is an instapurchase. You can get them on ps5 cheaper. But this is perfect handheld gaming for me, so switch it is.
I have really enjoyed the games so far. Unfortunately, I have had quite a few freezes, and it appears an entire save file of mine is corrupted. It is impossible to complete the mission without a freeze. A real bummer since I’m a few hours in. Hope issues like these are patched up soon
Question: Why is the value score so "low" if you have 60+ hours of gameplay? because there is no voice acting (=not triple A feeling) and the game is for 40€ a bit too expensive? (i bought in pre-sale because it was 25% off).
I’ve always wanted a Cyberpunk RPG game on Switch. Hoping this is good because I’ve been wanting this for the longest time, and never played any of the Shadowrun games
You are the best I was waiting for this before pulling the trigger. Mark did you try all of them in details at least couple hours in game?? Just curious sales ends tomorrow so just want to make sure if I get them they work solid
Hey Nick I put by far the most time in the first game and had no issues. The other two only an hour each - just wanted to check performance there. I love these games and it’s great playing through them again. As always though, although I didn’t get a crash - it doesn’t mean you wont. The Switch seems to like different models of Switch and SD cards etc etc - either way, I am having a blast! Mark
Would typically be all over these on Switch but Game Pass being so awesome has stayed my hand from pressing the buy button. 25% off is tempting but with Sunbreak out next week, I see a lot of MHR in my immediate future and not much Shadowrun

I will be getting this
Is this the same game of the same name on super nes?? Cause I couldn't get used to those controls
I remember these came out on tablet and the moment I finally bought a good tablet that could run it, they delisted it
I'll have to pick this collection up at some point.
Another great video!
Observer was pretty cool. We recently got Blade Runner ported aswell. Thats a classic.
BOUGHT IT THE OTHER DAY, already had it on PC, EPIC!
Yeah, been looking forward to this one.
Loved these games. Finished them on PC, but defo wait for a sale.
On sale right now $4.99 each game. Ends 9/10/23. Most likely will get all 3 games.
Yoo is that a switch at 2:45 ? And if so what is the name of that accessorie called ? Anyone know?
I think they are Nyxi controls
I’ve always wanted a Cyberpunk RPG game on Switch. Hoping this is good because I’ve been wanting this for the longest time, and never played any of the Shadowrun games
Like other comments would like to know what controller you have attached to the switch in this video - looks really smart
You are the best I was waiting for this before pulling the trigger. Mark did you try all of them in details at least couple hours in game?? Just curious sales ends tomorrow so just want to make sure if I get them they work solid
Excellent apparently, just make sure you save onto your internal HD & not the SD.
Mark
@@SwitchUpYt you are awesome Mark timely review I will pick this up while it’s 25 off. Thank you!
@@Ytnzy250 very good to know that. Thanks
Would typically be all over these on Switch but Game Pass being so awesome has stayed my hand from pressing the buy button. 25% off is tempting but with Sunbreak out next week, I see a lot of MHR in my immediate future and not much Shadowrun
Same man. I was also going to pick up dragons dogma on switch last night but it was 5 dollars cheaper on the Microsoft store.
I thought for a sec that the watermark was part of the game! 😅
Lol no just me being special with my software! Mark
Iwas checking these games as I love RPGs and cyberpunk settings. But the first one is Returns, that means the snes one is the first one?
Dead man's switch... Ohhh i love you guys so much. That's how i can tell you know the source material well.
I was really confident that this port will be stellar and at a discount for pre-purchasing it is a good deal.
Will be getting this when LRG gest the physical pre-orders going.
We need a physical copy !
