- Kajagoogoo were a British new wave band, best known for their 1983 hit single "Too Shy", which reached No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart, and the Top 10 in numerous other countries.
The band signed with EMI Records in July 1982 after Limahl had met keyboardist Nick Rhodes of the group Duran Duran while working as a waiter at London's Embassy Club. Rhodes proceeded to co-produce the band's first single, "Too Shy" with Duran Duran's EMI producer Colin Thurston.
The single was released on 10 January 1983 and topped the UK Singles Chart, having done so before any of Duran Duran's singles (as Rhodes himself has lightheartedly noted).
Follow-up singles "Ooh to Be Aah" and "Hang on Now" also both reached the UK Top 20, and the group's debut album 'White Feathers' reached No. 5 in the UK Albums Chart. After being the support act for the Birmingham band Fashion in late 1982, Kajagoogoo embarked on their own headlining White Feathers tour in Spring 1983.

I was there, at this very concert! Such good times folks, being the screaming Kaja-fangirl that I was back then. Near the end of the show, I spontaneously jumped on stage while my heart pounded like crazy, to be near my idols. I ran into Nick's arms and got a huge hug from him; he was a total sweetheart by the way. Security kindly but firmly guided me off stage. Unbelievable how much guts I had back then....Anyway, the whole concert was recorded, and the next day the part with my 5 minutes of fame was put on repeat in my classroom. My classmates & teacher just couldnt stop laughing at my hysterical fangirl behavior! Thankfully I didnt take myself too seriously, and had a good laugh too:)
That is Awsome, that you Got this Memory. Music and Fans make the Whole Magic.
The recording is on youtube, he looked very friendly with you haha x
😅😅😅
Amazing hystory
@@evieokane9443 Which one is it?
This intro is so amazing. The bass is just so beautiful. Always gives me goosebumps.
For real!
True, Nick was gifted on the bass.
They told there lead singer to basically F off when this was preformed
What a great performance! Nick Beggs was a decent singer in his own right. However, Limahl's voice was more powerful and full-bodied. It had a wistful melancholy to it, which was also evident in his on-stage persona and interviews. This gave Kajagoogoo classics like "Too Shy" and "Hang On Now" that extra something special, which made the band so memorable.
the song is built around Begg's virtuoso inventive basslines his presence and performance on bass is also missed.
"Hey Girl... move a little closer 'cause you're Too Shy" 😌 I haven't heard this song in a long time! Thanks for takin' me back in time. My teenage years would soon be coming to an end.
Happy Saturday... thank you for sharing! 💖
ME ENCANTA SU ESTILO. NO PUEDO DEJAR DE MIRARLO. En serio💗💗💗
I will always love Nick ❤️!
Sacking Limahl proved to be an unwise decision on this band's part. I'm thrilled that he went on to have such a successful solo career.
he ended up in some holiday home as the in house entertainment. It was not successful
Nick maravilhoso!
Huge classic song
I saw them with Limahl at Hammersmith Palais back in the day - Nick Beggs bass playing was incredible, he was clearly the bands leader - hugely underrated sadly because of the teen image
Without their lead singer he sucked!!!
@@davidrutledge5464 I would agree that Limahl sung this song better than Nick Beggs. However 'Islands' which was post Limahl is brilliant and better overall than their debut album 'White Feathers'
I’m still convinced that if Nick Beggs would have been the leadsinger from the start with a studioversion it would have been as successful as limahls version. Nick has such a distinctive voice, such charisma. Look up White Feather live sung bij Nick … not to forget The Lions Mouth… Certainly nothing against Limahl but Kajagoogoo was Nick Beggs for me and always will be. And in addition to that, the basslines were the core of the songs. Everybody is entitled to an opinion. And I can understand somebody else’s point of view.
you are so right! I subscribe to anything you say!
Great song always makes me happy
Nick Beggs was so fit 😍
80s MASTERPIECE!!!!!
Cuantos buenisimos recuerdos, Kajagogoo de mis favoritos.
Thank you 😊 💙
Nick Beggs... I love this girl...😉❣
Bellisimo 👌🏼
Wow they sound great
One of my all time favs. Thank You for the Upload.
Always been one of my best songs from Kajagoogoo,To shy,Remember first coming out in the charts back in the early 1980's,This was a 1983 hit,Reording to google,40 years gone,Makes ya wonder where time flys over the years
Clássico dos 80. Muito bom.
Produced by Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran
Now one of the best bass players for hire in the business
That bassline....WOW!!
I was thinking that the camera should be on Nick Beggs when he plays that awesome bass intro... then I realized that Nick Beggs is singing lead instead of Limahl! Not every band could go on without their singer.
Nick was probably a better singer and a virtuoso bass player..as can be heard on the Islands album but didn't have the pretty looks of Limahl.
@@stevieG. I'm sorry to disagree, but Kajagoogoo was Limahl and pretty much him. Period. The rest may have been good musicians but no star power. Sorry about that. And by the way, Nick's voice may have been better suited for rock bands but not this. This is strictly Pop and Limahl's voice was far more enticing to everyone's ear. Remember "Never Ending Story"? Where was Nick then?
@@SmartRobot-wc2fb I wouldn't say Nick was a better singer than Limahl, but I wouldn't say "Kajagoogoo was Limahl" either. Nick was a good singer and could carry on loosely in the style of Limahl, and I was merely saying that this is unusual: The Police/Duran/Spandau could not continue with another band member replacing their lead singer.
@@blissmaster71 Absolutely! I agree! I think that Kajagoogoo was pretty much Limahl, regarding the band's charting story, but giving the benefit of the doubt to Nick Beggs although I consider he had no star power. Now, regarding those bands you mentioned, I also agree it would have been impossible for them to carry on in a consistent basis without their frontmen. Queen tried that but it wasn't very successful. They only managed to endure for a while.
@@SmartRobot-wc2fb Limahl had the most star power in the group, for sure. However, what really made Kajagoogoo stand out was that unusual combination of a charismatic lead singer, equally talented instrumentalists, and just all around great pop songwriting (thanks also to their producer, Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes). The band members all admitted as much in their VH1 Bands Reunited episode. They conceded that firing Limahl was a mistake and acknowledged his invaluable contributions as their original frontman.
That was the bass player originally. He seems very sweet. Even though I’m used to Limhal singing it, I loved Nick’s performance energy and stage presence. Loved his interaction with the crowd and how much fun he was having. Great video! Thanks for posting!
Music was out of space during the 80.❤
so true.....indeed
Nick Beggs without his bass?! 😳
This is after they got rid of Limahl. This is a great song but it really needs Limahl.
I agree..we were all too accustomed to the vocals and visuals of Limahl.... Nick gives it his best and full performance though...just strange seeing someone so tall singing it when it used to be someone so small ha ha 🤣Nicks legs go on forever...👌
It might have worked if we never heard of Limahl because he doesn't sing to bad but there always would have been something missing.
And Nick needs his bass!
Yeah, totally true.
@@RetroReminiscinggreat point. Exactly what I was thinking because I do like it but like you said I’ve already heard Limahl
Good
almost all comments are about the bass player completely forgetting he's the main reason that's not limahl singing.....
Sacking Limahl proved to be an unwise decision on this band's part. I'm thrilled that he went on to have such a successful solo career.
Huge kamikaze move by Kajagoogoo. Dumping Limahl when they'd only just hit the big time, spelled the band's doom.
Where is Limahl???
Never ending story
Limahl is not In this performance because he got fired in 1983. This performance happened in 1984 around the time the second album came out. They sacked Limahl before they started making the album “islands”
Très bon son! Bises katy french ! 👍💚⛱🏝🙏😘
Didn't realise this singer was Nick Beggs, the band's usual bass guitar player.
Regardless of whether you like their music or not, one must admit that that band are very good live.
Espetacular música 👏
Anos 80s. Foi muito 🔝🔝💯
🇧🇷⚽🇧🇷🍻
This guy sounds a lot like Limahl and definitely has presence. What the band did to Limahl was beyond treasonous.
without original singer (Limahl ) of the band is not the same🇨🇱🇦🇺
Yes, agreed but they did their best material without him on the Islands album
I'm agree too
Pienso igual
The quality of the band is "the same" or maybe "superior" than with Limhal - in my opinion...
@@emanuellequesne2447 yes, the reason the separation was because the band wanted to be a more progressive act ,which I think their Island's album shows this.
This is Gold
I was thrown for a moment with Nick only singing and not playing bass at the same time. I guess having replaced Limahl, he felt the need to give the bass duties to a hired bass player so he could become the front man. Very strange. I wonder who the bass player is here as he's not an official band member. Whoever it is, I'm certain Nick Beggs completely approved of him as he is one of the most iconic bass players of the 20th and 21st century. It's a real shame the band couldn't work things out with Limahl to keep him because it's obvious that even though the band tried, the band couldn't survive for very long without Limahl. I'm just happy they all lived long enough to realize they dropped the ball with how they treated one another and the legacy of Kajagoogoo and made amends enough to reunite and right the wrongs. And, while Nick is great here, he's not as sexy, vocally talented and charismatic as Limahl was. Without Limahl there would never have been a Kajagoogoo. At least not a chart topping one. Nick is very lucky to be following what Limahl established. Not throwing shade. Just speaking truth.
never seen this performed without Nick on bass, interesting.
👍👍👍👍👍👍 super muza ekstra tekst Perfect 👍
Ooh how I just love that baseline!😎🎶🎵
This is not with the original lead singer...🤔
Bass player. They kicked Limahl out. Thought they would do better without him😂😂😂
Wow high performance with Nicholas B. 👏❤️
I was a late teen living in the UK - loved this band. Nick is great with the audience but they need lahmil to seal the deal.
Bring me right back dancing around the handbag 👜 🎶
Letra da música original, por favor. Obrigada!
Was a lost time on innocence lost. Aid was just becoming scary. And the teen bands were still riding high. Very catchy tune in
💕
Not seeing the great Nick Begs behind the bass is just odd .
Did the bassist take over singing after Limahl?
Wasn't he the bass player in the original video? I'm confused.
sorry Nick Beggs....but this a Limahl Song
Si 😢
Excellent quality. When he lets the audience sing in the mic then you realize how good he is.
Nick Beggs is just as good at singing as Limahl. ✌️☺️
I've been into Kajagoogoo since their first hit single way back in 1983. And I like the post Limahl material better . However Limahl sings this better than Nicky Beggs does here IMHO.
Sorry but am not sure Limahl could sing better than Nick.
exacto.... Limahl y punto... 😁
Whats with the gun
Where’s Limahl
Still good performance although I prefer limahl singing!!!!
WHO is the singer? I'm a Limahl fan GGRRRRRR
Geile Zeiten👌👍🇩🇪
👆🎶💯👌✌🙏💞
Not Limahl.
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩♥️♥️♥️

Que pasó con el cantante original?
maravilhoso
reminds me of the movie Valley Girl
Yo los conocí con Limah..🧐
Let hear for new wave music bands and and perform groups need more music video
Nick Beggs without his bass... I can't see it
Ithis Is a guitar Man??
Yamaha DX7 and Roland Jupiter 8 in tandem. Those were the days
Wow 2022
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I never realized Nick Beggs voice has a tone like the late Great George Micheals., maybe from the Wham era.
1983
The last thing a Soviet soldier guarding an outpost hears before a man wearing an eyepatch and bandana with a robotic arm knocks him out
(Metal Gear Solid 5)
Bez Limahla takie chaotyczne 😶
Would love to see the whole concert
That's So Nice. I Would Not.
He's à monster woman, not a man
This will be The Never ending story as well …
Por qué tiene unos dientes perfectos??? 😮
Now here is someone desperate to be a front man!!... He's spent way to much time in front of the wardrobe mirror!!..🤣🤣
'Too Shy' is the very definition of flossy, flimsy, flouncy faux-funk.
I don't mind a bit of pouting evanescent, weightlessness in my pop and this delivers; from Nick Beggs' showy bass, to Limahl’s camera-ready hair.
Sorry but without Limahl’s vocal and stage presence it’s a bit flat xx
I listen this music first on “vapormemory” channel.
