  • Song:
    Instrumental of Balloon Boy by Oliver Tree
    (I heard this song from this MAP and feel obliged to credit them hahaha- but srs the MAP is coming out soon it's gonna be great go watchie: • + BALLOON BOY + A Wing... . )
    I chose to use the instrumental version because the lyrics are pretty dark.
    The only instrumental i could find has terrible audio quality, I tried fixing but I have no knowledge of audio stuffs lmao... Sorry for your ears everyone.
    ~~~
    THE FILM:
    Your Beautiful Sadness is a school project. I'm taking a funky little film and media class at my school, but the course isn't specifically made for animation, so the due date for our projects is more catered towards those who are doing real life film. I had 3 months to make a short film between 1-7 minutes long, and because I have the privilege of choice, I decided to challenge myself and attempt a 7 minute long short film. The story of YBS is something I whipped up in English class, although it was also made for this class. The only problem is that it is a story that should actually take up 20+ minutes of animation. In the end I had 3 months to animate a short film that should have been longer.
    As I did expect, I didn't finish in time. However, as I also expected, I learned a LOT and had a really good time making this. I have no regrets, and my own improvement in animating humans actually can be seen in the scenes at the start and end that are sketchy on white bg- because those are the ones I animated within this last week. My character acting has improved greatly.
    Because I did not finish, I chose to compile everything into somewhat of an amv- or a film reel- as if someone took scenes from an existing movie and put it into an amv that partially tells the story.
    Speaking of story: here is the written version
    docs.google.co...
    Story was inspired by Studio Ghibli.
    Next year I am making another short film for the class, it will be my final year in high school (In NZ, most students finish high school at the age of 18) I feel old now, hahaha.
    This is the reason I haven't posted in so long. I'm grateful to have a group of people around the world who enjoy seeing the things I make, so thankyou all, you are all my motivators. Each kind comment inspires me to pick up a pen again. I often go back to read them all, and it makes me feel really blessed.
    God bless you all, and if you are a person who wants to become an animator, I won't even need to wish you luck, because I know that once you choose to do something, and really chose it, there is nothing that will stop you from achieving it.
    See you soon in upcoming videos.
    If anyone is interested in the story and has read it (link in desc) do let me know what you think!
    Especially interpretations of the ending, I love hearing how different people recieve a story.
      I just read it and it was really good! I read the paragraph about your intentions after reading the actual story and I have to say You did a great job with the execution. The descriptive language really does help with the immersion, the lesson was clear, and I think making her sadness into a person makes it easier to visualize a more complicated relationship with it. The ending imo serves to give closure to Isra, and in turn, the reader. The stream that carried the leaf she followed was likely the same one she pushed the boat into earlier in the story, a boat that in that case would have ended up broken at the bottom of the waterfall in the end. It shows Isra that she was right not to listen to the intrusive thoughts brought on by her sadness as she would have swiftly regretted it if she had. In this especially extreme case this is because of the physical harm it would have caused her, but it also helps paint a more generalized picture: That people who give in to their feelings(or who try too hard to avoid/deny them) rather than accepting them and moving on, usually make decisions they regret as a result.
      Lmao sorry for the tangent, idek if it’s understandable either, It’s like 3 am my time and my brain stopped working hours ago.
      @@Geck810seriously,, thankyou SO MUCH for taking the time out of your day to write this comment. What you have said is SPOT ON to my original intentions with the story,, although Ive heard other interpretations that I really like as well- because they are very specific to the person who made tge interpretation.
      Loved the comment, thankyou. Made all the 3 months worth it :)
    Wow... This is breathtaking. Absolutely breathtaking - such a beautiful mixture of smooth animation, beautiful backgrounds and colour choice (I love the ghibli inspiration it’s very clear) and how beautifully arranged it is! This project shows incredible filmmaking skill, even if it’s unfinished, and it’s so inspiring! Also I didn’t know you lived in NZ too, cool! God bless ❤
    oh my WORD sketch this really blew my mind beyond anything I've seen you do before... The angles, the movement, the backgrounds, so much of this is just absolutely breathtaking and out of this world-my eyes grew SO wide as I watched this.
    You've seriously come so far and just when I thought your work was already something else, you continue to push new levels of astounding. And outside of that, I can really see your dreams and aspirations coming to light in this animation-there really isn't a doubt in my mind you'll make it to a place where you'll be blowing the minds of the world. Your style also has a kind of uniqueness that says *you* whenever I see it... like how hayao miyazaki has in his works. This is a long and sappy comment I know but gosh this really inspired me to spill my soul in the comments. I always look so excitedly forward to everything you post, and cheering you on!!!! You inspire and motivate me so much, and your advice and candid encouragement comes to mind so often every time I pick up my pen... you're someone who'll make a big difference in the creative world, I just know it-and I'm sure other viewers believe in it too. Never stop creating 💖
    so, my thoughts on this; first of all amazing animation, smooth clean ect.
    story though, i think the feeling of melancholy was executed really well. to me, it reminds me of myself, many of the actions the character makes feel like im watching myself from a window, particularly the scene in the forest where the notebooks are thrown into the air. to me, the blue person represented unattinable hope, the kind that you can always feel the pain is going to end, but never does. idk, i might see it quite diffrently than others though.
    all in all this was amazing, and worth the wait :)
