- Prince William, Sir David Attenborough and The Earthshot Prize Council introduce The Earthshot Prize.
Every year from 2021 until 2030, Prince William, alongside a panel of Prize Council Members, will award The Earthshot Prize to five winners whose evidence-based solutions make the most progress towards repairing our planet.
The Earthshot Prize is centred around five ‘Earthshots’ - simple but ambitious goals, underpinned by scientifically agreed targets, which if achieved by 2030 will improve life for us all, for generations to come. They are focused on climate, nature, air, oceans and waste.

Over the last ten years, the evidence that we face urgent challenges to protect the environment has become indisputable, and it’s clear that the time to act is now. Drawing inspiration from the concept of moonshots, which since the moon landing in 1969 has become shorthand to talk about the most ambitious and ground-breaking goals, Prince William announced The Earthshot Prize: an ambitious set of challenges to inspire a decade of action to repair the planet.
We believe in the power of human ingenuity to prove to us all that the seemingly impossible is possible.

PPoW visited the Boston Harbour where the 1st year awarded solution is being used to rebuild the sealife diversity. I find this very encouraging 👍
finally seen the 5 doc series and watched the first set of winners being announced 17th October 2021 congratulations for seeing this through. what a monumental achievement. well done Prince William and all those involved in getting this fantastic project off the ground.

We definitely need to change the world but it can't be done over night like we have been pushed over here in the US. So you have the right idea. I am looking forward to seeing what you all do. William is so humble and inspirational!! I applaud him and all the people involved in this wonderful and perhaps the most important action finally taken to save our planet!! It is so beautiful how he acknowledged his grandfather and father environmental efforts. I am so happy that he is doing this with Sir David which has being one of the biggest climate change advocates. He is so clever, so ethical and so honorable. I think the whole idea of all of this is just fantastic!!! From the way it's been planned and publicised showing the world working together to the team of the council who we all look up to. The innovative ideas that people have come up with are phenomenal and I can't wait to see what ideas are brought forward next year and the years after that. Hats off to Prince William for doing this and to everyone else who is involved. I'm absolutely overwhelmed by all the positivity, foresight, and the reality of what is being accomplished by people around the world, it's so uplifting to see and hear about all of the good that's being done, something myself and I should think others needed to see & hear too. It is great that they call attention to the matter and encourage action from everybody. The fact is that we already have the necessary technologies and sufficient resources to make this happen. What we really need is a consciousness shift to love-based thinking that is applied in every aspect of life.
Let's analyse and take our electric energy needs for example. Does anyone recall Nicola Tesla's ways of electricity generation? No? OK, we have solar, wind, hydro and geothermal. Example: in UK the average yearly consumption of electricity is less than 4 MWh and there are around 28 million households there. So, that makes 112,000,000 MWh/year total. According to the Estimated UK LCOE for projects started in 2015, the average cost of onshore wind is £62 MWh and the solar is £80 MWh. Lets say we want to use only solar, so the cost to cover all electricity needs of all households is around £9 bn.
Now where to get the money from? UK's military budget for 20/21 is £41.5 bn. Ridiculous, you'd say? All contries should do this. Do we still need to play soldiers considering the threat of possible extinction? That after all is the taxpayer's money.
We need more compassion, not more aggression. You already see where the results of fear-based thinking have taken us. Once we engage our discernment, solutions will emerge spontaneously and all this will be sorted in no time as we teach the next generation how to do it. Call the wisdom within, observe and follow properly what nature is teaching us about sustainance. There are many cultures around the world that have done that for thousands of years.
Surprisingly, there is no one in the Earthshot panel representing the internationally reknowned spiritual leaders of our time, who by the way are holding a Global Oneness Summit on 17th-24th October 2020 (www.humanitysteam.org/Global-Oneness-Summit). I highly recommend you hear what these people have to say.
I agree that young people are more concerned about the planet than they were years ago. When I wanted to be an ecologist over 60 years ago now ( 😱 ! ) strongly influenced by Rachel Carson’s book ‘ Silent Spring ‘ no one really knew what the word ecology meant !
Ironically I went to Leicester University and read Biology ( and psychology ) where David Attenborough’s father was the first Vice Chancellor !

I love this, a great incentive to make the earth the centre of attention, I have been worried for my grandsons future, he's not quite 3 years old, I remember the first time climate change ect was suggested to the public back in the early 1970's ( well that's when i remember hearing of it anyway ) , we heard this portent of doom on the tv and thought , its centuries away, it'll be a problem that won't happen until way after I'm gone, I was a small child at the time, I had no idea this would be my life, the announcement was like something from science fiction but here we are and governments have the power to ban plastic, they have the power to use renewable safe energy and yet oil derived products continue to rule the economy and destroy the world because of greed. every ONE of us is responsible , we owe it to the rest of humanity to make the right changes and every small change helps. please try

We can also as people help by reducing reusing recycling. I took a Sunday a garbage bag and a glove and walked up and down 2 blocks on my streets in chicago and picked up a full bag of garbage and plastics. When the actually city worker came on Tuesday, he couldn't believe how much cleaner it was. I told him I'd done 2 square blocks. This is a very little thing to help, but if I can find people to help, this will clean our streets a little and get rid of plastics and poisons.

this is a great project and the first step in the way forward awarding the world for working toward fixing the climate instead of penalizing the world for not doing it. the carrot is a far better intensive than the stick. this is a problem that needs to be dealt with at all levels of the community not just at the governance level.

The richest people have the power to control industrial wastes, the governments all over the world listen to the richest of all.
We as citizens can do only so much, but there's so many people who don't do anything. We need the highest influencers to tell our governments to finally take this seriously. Because the lord knows a lot of world leaders don't listen to the scientists.

www.realclimate.org/images/logo2.jpg This is an independent view of the Earth Challenge Prize from 2007, and is quite similar in scope to Earthshot Prize regarding carrot & stick. The Virgin banner still flies over this, and the specific carbon capture goal is well within grasp, although it's more of a group effort as defined in the Earthshot Manifesto. The largest, most 'crowd' involved project is probably tree planting and management with local agriculture. Needs must is water for both. Therein lies large involvement with large return/reward without a brainiac eureka moment; the groundswell mass movement is much more helpful to long term stable growth in environmental stabilisation.And it's going to be a l o n g term thing.

I love this idea, the concept & I really feel we might just manage to rescue the planet - but, I also worry that people will see this wonderful "Call to action", that those in the Earthshot are doing ALL the work so they don't have to. In the first few years will hopefully bring good ideas with easy applications, but some countries may well just stop concerning their governments about the planets needs & decide they don't have to concern themselves. There are always those who like to tell others what to do & ignore those actions themselves.
The only way for mankind to actually live in harmony with this beautiful planet is to show that money, wealth, position, are NOTHING when it comes to the Planet. EVERYONE is the same carbon life form, creating a carbon foot print, that local councils, to county leadership, to Country governments all across the globe will DO what is NEEDED.
Money for fixing the planet shouldn't be money we can't find unless cuts are made for other sections of local governance. It's time to srop trying to beat the neighbours & instead start ensuring that everyone has solar panels for every new house wherever in the World - water needs to be filtered better, rivers should not be used for dumping grounds & the list just keeps growing.
Lets get Nature back to being Happy

How do we get ideas in front of nominators?
I've watched several of these videos on earthshot prize and still have no idea what it's all about. Everyone just keeps repeating the same thing - the earth is dying and we need to change. Ok. So the earthshot... Is it like a competition? Is there a prize? If so what is it. Where do you enter, what are the rules? When is the deadline? I'm so confused.
I have to wonder, have to wonder. You have a great idea, want to involve yourself? Very hard to get the invite, truly feels like a Cinderella project, and if by some twist of fate you leave a slipper then maybe the Prince will find it....though perhaps not before it's too late. A greater openness to the wider concept of idea and an easier facilitation is needed.

I think it great and I hope enough countries take on some the initiatives, but I think there should have been a sixth one for how to clean up the mess we have already created in other counties and in the seas and waterways , because we are still going to be creating waste faster than we recycle for decades to come
