This was the one Tekken game I skipped playing. I was playing Tag 1 and later got Tekken 5. On one hand I'm kinda glad I did because T4 sounds jank as fuck (and because Jin's JF Laser Scraper made him a God,) but watching these revisited vids makes me want to pick up a copy and try it out for myself.

Been playing since Tekken 1 homie, I know the struggles and improvements from start to current. The counter hit "must" to launch goes for most of the cast in comparison to Tekken 5 onward. They tried something new and bold with this game, the walls, wall tech rolls, side walking, breakable objects, etc still finding their footing, Tekken had it's biggest turning point in this game in particular. Some for better, some for worse.
@@JAGtheTrekkieGEMINI1701 True. Mishimas are supposed to be strong. What I like about Mishimas is wave dashing. I have a really irrational hatred of Jin though. Maybe because he's a goodie goodie and quite frankly lame compared to Kazuya or Heihachi.
Tekken 4 was broken competitively lmao Tekken 7's juggling system is a mess and complaints are justified, but the older Tekken games are more broken in different ways.
@@free_playstation_2 Honestly the juggling system is the best thing to ever happen to Tekken. Hear me out first. In old Tekken games the damage all characters could do with their juggles varied wildly because of how their moves worked, and a game is obviously less healthy when some characters get three times the damage of others out of a launcher. When they introduced the System in Tekken 6 and turned certain moves into dedicated launchers, fillers, bounces and enders (by tuning how much startup they have and how close to the ground they can hit someone) they were able to tune the damage of these attacks to their intended purpose, and that's how, with further refinement in Tekken 7, almost every character had a BnB combo that revolved around 60 damage. Now in Season 3, the damage of these juggles has been tuned way too high due to the season-induced powercreep, but in Season 1 I feel like they had an amazing thing going for themselves with the normalization of launcher potential, and I hope they recapture this in Tekken 8, or T7 Season 4
df4+4 is pretty effective, especially when people overdo wavedashing forward. Pretty safe if you only press 4 once and it will force your opponent to reset
Hi main man! I've been a huge fan for a long time. I am always impressed by your execution and think it could be a really fun idea if you did a video (series maybe?) Where you go through other fighting games and try to do the hardest combos in those games.
Simply-Abstract because you played it like Tekken 4, not Tekken 7. It was good, it was what it was. The stages were amazing - some of them were strange shapes. Remember the shopping mall? It had stairs! I kind of wish they could bring stuff like that back.
While i sucked at the time playing tekken 4, i loved the designs from kazuya. Was the first character i ever tried in Tekken and it's my main since then
So what I'm seeing is that the main point is the exact same as Tekken 8, but Tekken 8 actually has movement and lots more complexity. Yet this is somehow better. I'm so sure the only thing that makes folks love this so much is nostalgia, aesthetics and how much simpler it was.
Because back in tekken 1 and 2 sidesteps didn't exist, so kazuya had mist step and was technically the first chatacter to "sidestep" in the game, so the move existed for kazuya to sidestep. Now its only funtion is to be a shortcut for electrics and a tool for pewgf.
Tekken needs to be brave and return to this method. Only launching on counter hit, and turning into a poke heavy game, but with slightly better movement speed.
Hey TMM, adding onto your point about KBD in T4 being sluggish -- a while back I found that the ability to chain backdashes together is disabled entirely whenever you are beyond range 3! ruclips.net/video/opEZ5WE2hyQ/видео.html
Electric not being used as a whiff punish, but as an aggressive high tool to fish for a CH only launch is so odd. So in this game twin pistons and df 1 f2 were useless. Instead you might as well just try to be aggressive with df 2 up close (safe ob clean range) for a ch launch. And db 4 on hit (safe on block) was a great frame trap to lead into df 2 (& is safe on clean range). Plus Tekken 4 bad movement. It’s so close on who was worse, T4 Kazuya or T6 console version Kazuya.. ~ I might go with T4 being worse. T4 Kazuya sounded terrible to play and boring af to play. But so was T6, so it’s close for me.
Honestly, I'm so sick of Tekken's dependence on launchers and juggles. It feels so boring to play. I don't even enjoy doing them. Where as when I played Tekken 4 not one moment of the fight was boring. It's far more sporadic and exciting to play.
Ora Ora! He explains it in the video, it’s not a natural combo, meaning that if the first hit lands, the second one isn’t guaranteed, so you can block it
This game's atmosphere was incredible. Gritty and grounded.
As a Tekken 7 player this is extremely interesting.

The music at Honmaru is so atmospheric. Love that theme.
Now I wanna see all these types videos for T5 and T6, this is very entertaining and interesting to see the development of the Tekken series.
4 was much more of an oddball, that's why these are so interesting
5, 6 and 7 are basically the same game but with each new installment you spend more time in the air and less time actually fighting.

It was evolving the series. 5, 6 and 7 is devolving into a juggling match

122 dmg from his combo with highest damage and no walls actually
