- Here is a guitar i airbrushed with a one off design for the guys at Indie guitars. This guitar will be for sale at the London International Music Show, 11-14th June 2009, Excel London.
Update: this guitar has had some serious hardware upgrades and is for sale in the Indie custom shop here...

The guitar started as a bare slab of mahogany which i then sealed and used some grain filler which had to be sanded down. What you see me sanding in the vid is the base coat of black paint. Because my big compressor was broken (has been for months) i had to do the base with the airbrush which results in a finish a bit like sand paper some times. I was just using some 600 wet n dry paper to de-nib the sirface again. It was Auto Air paint mate ;)
It depends on a number of things... the image you want painted, how much of the guitar it covers, does the guitar need any repairs (dings, scratches and chips), and where in the world you are (postage/insurance from me to the USA is about £200 on its own).
A paint job can range anything from £200 right up to £1500. It just depends on the above mate ;)
Cheers Llexi, i was tempted to paint the design on the pups and the pup mounts but there just wasnt time.
The pickguard almost didnt make it back on there. I very nearly left it off hehe.
Any news on some graphic Eternal Descent guitars from ESP yet??? Need someone to paint some more for ya??? lol ;)
i just found a big pic of a bulls eye guitar and printed it out onto a sheet of A3 paper. Cut out the rings and laid it on the guitar. Nice and simple ;)
Next time i do one though ill use a compass now i know the right measurments for the rings.
I can do anything pretty much mate but the cost really depends on what you want done. I cant do anything for less than £100 though because thats how much it costs to get the guitar lacquered once im finished with the painting ;)
Hi, the guitar had a £1500 price tag mate but Indie have now sold it im affraid. I have more projects happening with Indie very soon though so keep your eyes peeled ;)
It took a couple of days for the prep/airbrushing and then the clear/polishing took a further 4 days. All in all about a week for the whole thing.
hehe yeah things are getting hectic to be honest. My house looks like a guitar shop lol.

Not if you are careful no. The paint i use (Auto Air) has zero metallic content in it and i apply it as thinly as possible.

I do this design for £300 mate but thats not including postage and if you are not in the UK (like i am) the postage could be more than the paint job so its worth checking that out first ;)

wow, how i wish i was living there in the UK so i could have my ibanez S series 25th year anniversary edition custom painted by you, i really want to get rid of the fluorescent green to make it unique, sadly im only living here in the Philippines where its hard to find quality and great paint jobs like you do, love your work sir, keep it up and more great designs to come...
WTF? Why are some commenting that the purple ruined it? The purple helped give the depth to the flames. On other flamed things, I have also seen a technique where some special type of "inter-layer" clear coat was put down over a few layers of flames and then more flames added on top. A final top coat of clear was added last- making the flames 3-d. But you are still an airbrush god! Good work! Sooo Shiney!

What do you use to clear, auto halford's clear or the two pack resin pro stuff,on work like this,I hope to be as good as you soon :-) by the way great tips on your vids,and outstanding art,loved that the girl on Destruction the white highlight realy poped it out

you did awesome! but it would have been SOOOO rad with one layer of purple,, then the white on top of the purpl then left alone! cheers to you though. good job

if I have a wooden guitar body, do I First need to airbrush it, and then put something special on to protect it, or in what order should I do this?
Never thought of using the purple as one of the layers for the realistic flame look, really helped give it a nice depth to the flames...looks great.
