  • This video categorically covers every single death from the E-rated Heart of Darkness platforming video game. Enjoy!
    By the way, this game is not just a deathfest. It has an excellent story, really nice graphics for its time, and fun gameplay. It takes itself very seriously, and the death scenes keep you from getting bored of dying. Needless to say, It works.
    Note: Technically, the second shadow captain is not a death, but it appears so when you cut it off here!

      Yeah like in some of them the only thing they left out was the blood, the most disturbing for me is when you can hear him shouting and then just a loud crack as they snap his neck or spine or whatever and he just goes limp and silent, really awful lol, but I grew up playing this and things like duke nukem and what not and I'm fine in the end, only game that bothered me as a kid was mortal kombat, that gave me nightmares

    How does this game have so much attention to detail on the death of a child? I even mean the kind of subtle details like making the the kid go limp after a while, like when he gets attacked by those mountain worms. He struggles a bit but then they have enough balls to add the detail where he actually dies and stops moving. Gruesome stuff right here.

    just a comment - the detail of the death scenes mostly comes because the game is designed by the guys behind Flashback and Another World, and Another World had also detail death animations for every disaster that happened to the main guy. Was kind of a feature.

      Something strangely cathartic about recovering a previously witnessed morbid experience; when a large part of what makes the experience so uncanny isn't necessarily the experience itself, but how obscure the memory of it has become with age. It just sits in the latent mind, festering, with no way to confirm or contradict the details...until you find it twelve years later on RUclips.

    Tried so hard to find this game, since I could'nt remember the title. I remember playing this when I was very young and that I would always remember that scene where this innocent child left alone in this grim world would be eaten whole by that shadow. I had so many nightmares after that...

    Some of these deaths are more visceral and upsetting than the most violent and gory R-rated games. A Mortal Kombat fatality is so over the top that it's more fun than it is disturbing, but hearing the crunch of the kid's neck snap and seeing his legs go limp, or watching his lifeless body spasm under the claws of the shadow creature tearing into his ribcage, are subtler and leave just enough to the imagination to hit closer to home.

    i remember being 6-7 and having this game, the 1st 5mins were awesome, but the first time i died(which was getting eaten by the shadow captain) i was frozen in terror and didnt sleep for nearly a week...i eventually kept playing the game, becoming gradually obsessed with the deaths till the day came that i would repeatedly watch andy get eaten by the swamp monster...i think its safe to say this game fucked my childhood lol

    This game gave me nightmares and anxiety as a kid! I was only like 5 or 6 at the time and I was terrified! Mostly by those shadow monsters.
    That kid's death sound clip haunted me for a long time.
    I could never remember what the game was called. >.

  • @Goblinoid90
    @Goblinoid90 11 лет назад +1

    To me the cruesome deaths, in part, made me more or less attached to the character, for these deaths were something to truly be avoided - not because of me being horrified by it, but for the sake of Andy.
    To me, there was also a little bit of escapism in Heart of Darkness: I was bullied at school for years at elementary, and I found myself identified with Andy, this brave boy with constant hardships.
    So for me, there really was a therapeutic dimension in Heart of Darkness.
