    Sanada san was famous actor in Japan from many decades ago but it’s so nice to see his talent is recognized outside Japan now.

      now? he has been out on the international scene since the last samurai (21 years ago), played in many big movies and tv shows since then as the host literally said in the beginning of this video

      @@icyveins-24 yea i dont get ppl saying this. Dude is a legend, if he's on a movie (hollywood) i will most likely watch it because i know he's a blockbuster. lol he wanted to have more protagonist roles though, and this show gave him the opportunity.

      @hungrydrago He is like the most prolific Japanese actor in Hollywood given how many good movies he’s in. He’s been big ever since The Last Samurai. He’s legit and legendary in his own way.

    I was in the same showcase with her over 10 years ago it’s a show business thing and many people could be mean but she was only the woman who was very kind and genuine to me… is what I remember. She is literally the true superstar and she is gonna be more successful.

    I had no idea he was also a producer of the show. That's fantastic! Given his vast experience of period dramas, and love of his culture, that brings a lot to the project. No wonder it's so great.

      There was a behind the scenes clip where after doing a scene in full armor, he quickly removes it all and proceeded go to one other scene as an advisor behind the camera.

    This Japanese guy actor is in so many Hollywood movies, and he’s great. I will never forget his performance in the The Last Samurai movie.

    I love how much the word 'authenticity' comes up when the makers and actors talk about this, because it's absolutely what they should be striving for. Accuracy comes from real history, but Shogun is historical fiction telling a story analogous to real events. So to hear that adhering to the spirit of history, of the period and that culture is what was foremost in their minds is good to hear.

    I like how Mr. Sanada’s demeanor in real life is sooo different from his onscreen characters. He seems to be such a shy low key gentleman.

    Sanada is made for the camera. he is one guy who elevates everything he is in. he is one of those people who can make bad movies look good

    Sanada used to be one of the student actors at the actors school of Sunny Chiba. He must be very proud of Sanada’s success in the heaven.

      She’s not really Japanese... It’s funny to hear “our” culture, “our”…she’s actually a New Zealander and her parents are not even Japanese just Japanese descendants (meaning she’s not really brought up in a Japanese family setting). I mean we can tell right? No Japanese women here in Japan think our past actresses always played too strong or too reserved Japanese characters, we have great films played by actually really beautiful Japanese actresses. She’s not Japanese at all in this sense. Just because she’s a Japanese descendant she’s not Japanese. I don’t know her at all and she’s not famous in Japan.

    I’m so proud of Anna❤I hoped but I didn’t expect her to succeed in her career as actor this much…just amazing…I have been supporting her since she was the leader of girl group FAKY. It was so sad to have seen her leaving the group in 2018. but she pursued her dreams without giving up and there she is today👏✨

    i really loved his performance of Ashikaga Takauji back in the early 1990s. I remember watching it on a UHF station in NYC. Great actor.

    I think it's something I picked up from watching the show that a culture that exists so long has so much time to refine its customs and its mannerisms very beautiful and elegant. Everything so well thought out

    I'm about halfway through the Original 1980 "Shogun" series and it's pretty good, when I'm finished I will decide to watch this new one.

    I cannot think of any other actor who could carry on the torch for Toshiro Mifune as Lord Yoshi Toronaga than Hiroyuki Sanada. And Anna Sawai is a very worthy successor to Yoko Shimada as Lady Toda Buntaro. I expect this to be a amazing show.

    Also looking forward to seeing Sanada return as Scorpion in MK2! He was one of the few highlights of the first movie. I hope for more screentime in the next one.

    Having read "Shogun" in 1980, was excited to see TV adaptation. Though not Japanese, was brought up around Japanese culture via Dad's step-mom(Domo arigato, Yuriko) Hawaiian culture/lifestyle has been Heavily intertwined by Japanese culture. Can't wait to see what/how neo-Shogun differs, or not, from book.

    I'm not familiar with Anna Sawai, but Hiroyuki Sanada is really excellent. I've seen him in many shows and movies. I've always been impressed with his acting.

    Sawai-san looks exactly like a Japanese woman who grew up abroad. There aren't many people in Japan who do this kind of makeup.
    I wonder if this is what foreigners imagine Japanese women to be like because people like her appear on foreign media.
    Of course she is beautiful!!

    Amazing show. Read the book when I was 13 and watched with Richard Chamberlin. This show is beautiful. Only issue is WAITING ON THE NEXT ONE! :)

    I still remember Blackthorne's Japanese lessons with Mariko. The difference between San and Sama and the difference between Wakari mashita and Wakari masen. But Sanada has a very large shoes to fill though, those of the legendary Toshiro Mifune no less.

    People should watch or react on the 6-minute video of the world of shōgun, background and history… it kinda gives the audience like a bird’s-eye view about what the show really is.
