    This is a very important lesson and most people have difficulty explaining it with the behavior of the merged layer. And it's simple - when it's "pass through" - the tuning passes through the group, when it's "normal" - stays in the group. Respect Unmesh!

    I never really knew to take advantage of groups like that. My composite layers will get a lot cleaner now. Thank you so much. I feel like my Photoshop-o-meter just got stepped up a couple notches.

    Thank you Unmesh. That was very helpful. I've seen the pass through blend mode before but never thought of changing it to normal to create discrete self-contained groups

  • @moreorlesslikeso
    @moreorlesslikeso 6 лет назад +1

    Interesting! I had never used any other mode than "Pass through" for groups of layers so far and thought I never would. Thanks for making it clear that there actually might be some benefit in doing it differently.

  • @suruha2306
    @suruha2306 6 лет назад +14

    I use this technique quite often. The only problem I found with it is this if you have layers in the group with drop shadows, for instance. Their Blending Modes work in Pass Through. Change the Group's Blending Mode to Normal, and the individual drop shadows no longer work. They're there, just without a blend mode. I usually convert my drop shadow layers to Smart Objects, then, can change the Group's Mode to Normal.
    Thank you!

    Took me a while to grasp this, but got there in the end, i can see this would be useful if you feel the need to apply an effect inside of a group, after it has been created. Thanks for taking the time to explain.

    At first I could not get used to the way you express yourself but after a couple of weeks I think I regret I had such thoughts because I now I think I really like your videos and the way you speak. You play with the voice nicely, hand gestures and you make a lot of things in Photoshop simple. So thank you very much and continue doing such great work.
    With you there can be a lot people who get better at Photoshop or just remind things/tools.
    So thank you again, I like to watch your videos!
