    Q I really don't see him as a villain. He is just a trouble maker.

    • @LordLOC
      @LordLOC 4 года назад +9

      Yeah he's not really a villain, especially if you take All Good Things into everything he's done over the course of Trek. He basically saved Humanity after all, by giving Picard clues, helping him travel through timelines of his life, etc. I'm still hoping he'll show up on Picard, especially with this new bit about a super advanced race that comes along and destroys life once a synthetic threshold is reached. My guess is its the Q, but Humanity is different and won't be destroyed by Q, obviously.

    • @LordLOC
      @LordLOC 4 года назад +5

      @xc5647321 xc5647321 True of course, but the Borg would have taken way way longer to get to Federation space/the alpha quadrant before Q did his thing. Except of course the Borg have transwarp which we didn't know in TNG but that's besides the point. And even though the Borg were already on their way to Earth etc before Q intervened, there was still tons of time before they would show up "naturally". But then again as you said, the Federation etc wouldn't have had time to get any defenses prepared either so there's that as well. Q has always had a fascination with Humanity, especially Picard and his crew. Whether it's a fascination that a owner has with his/her pet or something more, I guess only Q can say for sure.

      @xc5647321 xc5647321 Oh I'm sure the novels do a much better job of explaining things than the shows lol and I do remember a specific novel that went into great detail about why Q did what he did, and what he hoped Humanity would get out of it etc. It was a longggg time ago though.

    Q is not a villain, on the contrary I see him more as a hero. Without Q the Federation would not have been ready for when the Borg arrived, which they were already on the way. Q's methods may seem cruel, but for every encounter the Enterprise crew were tested and came out better for it. Like when Picard "died", he learned to appreciate his past. Even the mistakes, as it all shaped him into what he was meant to be.
    Edit: Also without the Q Continuum, Colonel Thadeous Riker would have died from his wounds in the Civil War. So there would have been no William T Riker to stop the Borg.

      I wonder - why do you think the Borg were on their way? The Alpha quadrant is so far away that it's unlikely they would care. Although the transwarp hub kind of ruins the idea, it's safe to say that there was little of interest for them in the Alpha quadrant since Borg technology was already superior to almost everything. Maybe some species, but there were plenty to explore in the Delta quadrant.

      As a note, The Borg are on the dominion's doorstep, they have been longer than they have been on the doorstep of the alpha and beta quadrants, the borg are the major players in the delta quadrants, meanwhile the dominion is the main players of the gamma AND hold a larger territory than the borg, and to describe that as a feat of power, since the Dominion has been in range of the Borg far longer than most other major powers, it also means they probably have to of had dealt with many more probes, spheres, cubes, and tactical cubes, potentially massive fleets.

    • @beayn

      @@funkmantim2661 Theoretically wouldn't that make the dominion a far juicier target than the federation? Getting their hands on some Dominion tech and possibly assimilating a shape shifter would and should be a top priority of the borg. Imagine combining shape shifting with borg nanites.

    • @funkmantim2661
      @funkmantim2661 4 года назад +1

      @@beayn Unfortunately, the borg were never as brilliant as we thought.
      Firstly, the big picture, the Borg are in technological stagnancy majority of the time. They only ever assimilate individuals with technology useful to them, however they almost never develop any new technology outside of better ways to assimilate, but even then the issues are right there. If they were brilliant they would of never needed help fighting species 8472 in the first place.
      The smartest thing they had done was attempt to make a figurehead out of Picard to make the assimilation of earth easier, and even then their extreme lack of any diplomacy makes them hard to want to ally with.
      They even refused to assimilate cultures with less advanced technology than themselves, but are willing to assimilate technology they pretty much already have the knowledge to reproduce or even improve on, along with individual races they deem worthy despite the fact that due to the excessive amount of implants that regardless of how much they assimilate a species that their drones are all almost the same excluding ones which are visibly larger or stronger than humanoids.
      Their most fatal flaw however? unwillingess to adapt to the galaxy at large , instead keeping the exact same agenda it has had countless times, resistance is futile. This is a bit of a parody game but I once played a game that pretty much played off the major factions in star trek, in it the borg counterpart was essentially the opposite of what we know of them, though that was AFTER a not in game event where the hive as a whole decided to be more "human" and diplomatic, and it actually worked for them, it was pretty hard not to have them as a ally not because of their technology which was almost useless in the final fight, but because that they were now trying to change their ways in a galaxy still based around a klingon like faction which had a thing about superiority, a vulcan like faction that acted like prophets, a ferengi like faction that had even more twisted rules that they did not care about breaking, and even a faction based around 8472 that was literally eating them because they found them delicious.
      It is just like what is already happening in stuff like Star Trek Online with the Collaboration, even if it is hard for the Borg to find allies because of their past, it is not impossible!
      But instead, we get our now and forever borg which never truly adapt, constantly war with EVERYONE, and will even distrupt the timeline in order to wipe out a foe who has proven to be torublesome. It could of been avoided even, the Borg were technologically advanced even compared to a lot of what we already seen in TNG, but the fact that they lacked diplomacy is what sealed their fates.
      It all is also why the Dominion is above them, the Dominion makes alliances, they have a actual military that can handle them, hell they have faithful soldiers willing to die by crashing their ships where as the Borg would just end up trying to fix a problem before the realization that their ship is actually not going to survive.

    • @beayn
      @beayn 4 года назад +1

      @@funkmantim2661 I agree and disagree. They do have to assimilate a foe to be able to properly adapt to them, but at the same time they saw Humanity as worthy for assimilation for many reasons other than just technology. This proves they do seek out new civilizations that are different and worthy of assimilation and the Dominion should have been an inviting target, even if perhaps they didn't go about it correctly. It's possible they simply didn't expand that much in that direction. No matter your empire, expanding in multiple directions at once is difficult.

      Funny enough a Queen can be explained by (orignal) Borg-logic.
      Said that the Borg were unable to integrate a faction into their collective, even though they had superior technology. It could be said that the Borg-Queen is nothing but another adaption to that cause. That this was at least a thought in her creation can easily be assumed by Picard becoming Locutus. That her existence was retconned to be already established before Locutus is another thing.
      This said, as the Borg thrive to perfection, they would actually adapt to individuality if they, for some reason, come to the conclusion that an individual mind could reach perfection faster than a collective mind. The extreme adaptibility of the Borg-philosophy is maybe the core problem of Borg story-writing. Depending on assimilated knowledge the Borg could turn into almost anything, without the slightest stretch.
      Problem with all is, that the more and deeper you explore a certain topic, the less threatening it becomes. A threat that we do not understand is the most threatening of all. The more we know, the less terrifying something becomes.
      So, having the Borg appear again and again, as favorite 'villains' would be impossible without the 'hero'-faction getting to know more about them each time, and therefor we. It's some kind of reappearing problem for writers of all sorts.
      Some stories work best if not explored any further. But you know, the audiance doesn't like that either. So, the 'downgrade' of the Borg simply had to happen.

    Just a thought on this, is Q actually an enemy of Picard, the Federation and humanity or actually in a strange way been acting to accelerate the species?

    • @regertz
      @regertz 4 года назад

      I think the Q are our descendants who traverse time as easily as space. Q plays with his distant ancestors but more seriously acts to protect from other time-capable species and from events of critical importance which those time-capable enemies may seek to alter. Yet the Q can't risk Humanity either becoming complacent that they will triumph or dependent on their god-like help.

    6:47 "If not for the timely intervention of a few friendly Klingons." Well, Picard asked the Klingons to be there, so it wasn't really a timely intervention as a strategic plan by Picard.

    I cant believe the krenim empire didnt make the list, they literally enabled janeway to defeat the borg.

    Q is not a villian. Infact an argument can be made that everything he does helps them in some way and that he’s been their guardian angel throughout the entire show.

    I think Douwd should be at the top of this list. With a thought he eliminated an entire species called the Husnack. Certainly a being that can do that is more powerful than General Chang :P

      Indeed. Q's powers are unclear. But Kevin Uxbridge actually did kill billions.

    Agree with Q as number 1 in this list and also with the Dominion and the Borg on 2 and 3 (I would have changed them and set the Borg as #2 and the Dominion as #3),
    BUT: ...
    ... no Species 8472 in this list?
    ... no Tribbles?
    ... no Vidiians or Hirogens?

    i feel like there were better choices for this list.
    species 8472
    most enemies in the OG series could go on here.
    and so many more.
    give me 2 videos with 2 lists.
    one for villains by themselves and one for villian species

    • @BigWillyG1000

      I would do that and have them divided by series with one set for all the movies- 10 villains in TOS, 10 villain species in TOS, etc, etc. You'd get some overlap but that's not a bad thing. Khan was such a great villain he'd have to be on a TOS villains list and be #1 for the film villains.

    YES! Correct!
    39 Starships were destroyed at Wolf 359 and so many people on RUclips have said 40. And 40 seems to be what's recorded in Wikipedia and Memory Alpha. I don't know when this changed but as far as I'm concerned it was always 39. I'm sure it's documented in a book or one of the Star Trek Encyclopedias.

    _True Power houses ^
    this is just off the top of my head - gotta watch the whole series for non-corporeal species , they thanos snap more than half your list. good job though ! my 4-7 could arguably be rearranged but I also went by feats performed . But I say these are the top 12 power house species in Trek. There is a few I def forgot too.
