An honest "real world" review done by an actual car guy and not some magazine writer that is being wined and dined by someone related to the manufacturer. How refreshing!
I have to admit I got onto you when you ordered the car and showed us the colours. Take this as it’s meant. It’s so refreshing to see a bloke live and breathe a car we are all wondering about, from our view rather than a 2 day experience from a expert. I wanted someone to tell the truth touring or sport. In one video you have decided it for me. Im in a ttrs at the moment, so touring would be like the Bentley you mentioned. Who gives scrap about resell anyway. Keep making us smile. Great watching. Subscribed as well. 🎉
Ha, well if I can help then that means a lot. Just a hobby for now though hoping to grow now. Going to be without the Emira for almost a month - PFF and exhaust... cough. TTRS is quite firm so you will find no issue with Sports on the Emira. Cheers! Ade
Many manufacturers give you options for the seats but none of them give you options for the steering wheel. Why not actually? Some prefer a fatter and some prefer a more slender steering wheel.... not to mention the material.... different woods, alcantara, different types of leather - cow hide, crocodile, vegan, cactus leather, whale testicle leather. Bet I just started a new trend here: Steering wheel options. There you go....
😄 Yeah, fair point on the steering wheels. Guess it just adds more complications as wheels are now so tech-heavy. In the old days, steering wheels were not hard to switch out. Vegan leather is a really good point. I will always point out the use of leather to Vs.
Super informative thanks so much! Leaning more towards the sports chassis now. Have you had any issues with paint chief? Or heard about any others who have?
Yep, sports chassis makes the most sense to me, by some margin. No dramas. Full PPF on mine though. I believe nearly all cars come from factory looking a bit orange-peely but easily corrected. I have heard that the paint can seem thin relative to the finish of some other top marques. I'd recommend at least the minimum PPF in the weaker areas anyway for a car this nice.
I love your enthusiasm! The mirrors look really useful, not just for looks, but on the subject of looks, I noticed they're the same shape as the big side intakes, and the overall shape of the headlight housing! There's clearly a great deal of thought that's been put in on this car, and it's the work of a true designer; someone who loves cars. I wonder if there's room underneath the cup holder insert, for deeper cup wells? Maybe that's something Lotus can fix later on as a replacement part. The rear hatch having that double procedure to close it seems odd, like they intended for them to be soft closing but that feature didn't make it to production. Good move on the ppf. The car is too good looking to let it get chipped up, and it looks like the side is going to be very vulnerable in that regard. Maybe get the sides ceramic coated as well as ppf for extra protection. Beautiful car. Can't wait to see what you can do with it once it's broken in.
"I noticed they're the same shape as the big side intakes, and the overall shape of the headlight housing! Ah yeah, good spot! The whole design makes for a perfect shape. Ordered mine last week, it wont come until Christmas 24, I've ordered auto, touring, silver y wheels and yellow callipers, straight black leather (although you are making me wabble on that), Magma (although I would almost like a ferrari red or diablo red, apparantly some more colours are coming, but they may be tied to the new base config, I think mine will be one of the last first editions) your video has compelled me to go and drive both and see what they're like for sport versus touring. I literally specc'd it and couldn't get the pic out of my head so had to order it, looked at from the side it has the lines of a dino or 308, the bonnet and front valance has call outs to the Enzo, everyone I showed my spece'd pic to thought it was a Ferrari and your right, if it had a Ferrari badge it would be £300k. Really liked what your son said about the feeling of the special car coming up the road, mentioned a koenigsegg. I've got a DB9 at the moment, which I only drive about 500 miles a year, when this arrives, I suspect the 500 miles to drop.
Jeez, a painful wait! Especially if you start seeing them on the road. Well, worth it though. I think the price will continue to rise and people will also start to realise that the car is exceptional and demand will get even stronger. Auto and touring the right option if you really will use it a GT car, which it will excel at. Surprised the FE order book is still open. Are you sure you have locked in the current price? Nice to keep the Aston as an event car. It should hold value and rise up in several years. I still cannot believe how amazing the Emira looks for the money. I actually think it is a bargain. I would have paid £100k for it. The ONLY thing it lacks to me is outright straight line performance but the rest of the package and the way it corners makes up for that and then some. More content coming soon. Track day in 3 weeks too! That should be a good video 😄 Ade
Enjoying your content and think the Emira is a wonderful looking car, I know as an Exige owner myself, many people moan about the route Lotus are going with EV's etc and comment about the Emira being a dressed up Evora, well I always thought the Evora was a hideous looking car anyway, so the Emira is just about as sexy a car Lotus could build and its a Cayman option for people, something Lotus has never had, keep up the great content.
Agree. I would never sell an Exige for an Emira but I would love to have both and use an Exige 4XX for the track. More content coming soon. Hoping to do a comparison with Exige and Evora too. Ade
I think they went about half way through the interior and decided “all we need to do is throw in a giant display and let it do everything”. If they can do moveable mirrors, then they can have OLED knobs for the hvac dual climate system. Sometimes, you do have to actually design the interior with practicality in mind… and they could’ve easily done with a led light with a clear top on the shifter to illuminate the gear you’re in… somewhat akin to apple MacBook keyboards that was once praised as the holy grail because of it ”backlighting” capabilities.
It's built to a price, and integrating as much as they can into a tack on screen (that they likely source from a 3rd party) is an easy way to save $. Still a great car though!
Ha. Nimbus is a lovely, chameleon colour. Hues of bronze deep down. Seen it several times now. Like this red, it looks a deep tone in crap light but in light it pops like the quality paint on an Aston, etc. I did originally also spec a nimbus with red leather, which would have been my track car. I might yet get the GT/CUP car in Nimbus. Not sure yet. It ook long enough to get this one!! 😄
Ha. It is 'fine' but no more than that. I think it lacks drama and seems a bit one dimensional. It is also not that loud at the highest setting if one wants some real banging. Overall, it does the job but I am a bit disappointed. Certainly does not affect my overall enjoyment of the car. The standard system in my C63 slaughters it. Ade
Thanks for the comparison! Nobody else seems to have covered this part of the owning experience, so I've been curious. Perhaps they had to keep the packaging on the smaller and lightweight end of things, and a compact car cabin not quite the spacious home audio application they are accustomed to.

Yeah, I don't know what they are playing that. It is an instant classic. I suspect they had an agenda to protect Porsche who give them so many cars. I also think they just didn't 'get' the car. It excels in looks and handling and luxury but was never meant to be a supercar beater. Ade

Would you personally recommend buying the Emira over the competition at this price point? And why chose the V6 engine and not the AMG 4-cylinder version? The From what I understand it's easier to raise the power output if that's ever needed. The difference in performance between Toyota's Supercharged V6 and the 4 cylinder AMG is about the same. Plus the weight of the AMG motor is probably lighter and is basically downgraded to Emira standard. Do you think it's worth waiting for the AMG motor or not. Anyone reading this post please let me know your thoughts regarding the pros and cons regarding the two engine options available in the near future. What's the price difference between the two engine options available for the Emira? Finally, what motor will have the better second hand value and why? Thankful for any answers to my questions!
I do believe the 4cyl will be more fun as DCT just is... The V6 will end up rarer and might be the connoisseur's choice. On that basis, ultimately, it may well end up being the most desired and better 'investment'. It might take a couple of years before we start seeing some major HP gains on the i4. Plus, I expect Lotus to being out higher performing i4 cars anyway and leave the V6 as it is. For me, it comes down to planned use. The DCT i4 will be vastly superior urban and daily car and the V6 will be for those drivers seeking to evoke an era that is rapidly fading. I think people will overthink the power part of this. The car is not a fast accelerating car and the prowess is in the bends. Both engines will be equal in this. They will be a similar weight as to also make this a non-issue. For the track, the i4 DCT will be better but, to be honest, if one is keen on track days - do not buy the Emira - get the Exige. Ade
Good vid & the enthusiasm is obviously very real. I don’t get the fat steering wheel design choice. V odd for Lotus to put such a ergonomically poor wheel on one of their cars. I don’t get the whole black Lotus logo thing either. Lovely car though. Roll on the 1k target…..
Ha. yeah. They have made some strange choices here and there but a fantastic car overall. I have now hot the 1000 mile mark and the car is belatedly getting PPFd. Ade
No. The Exige is far more raw, nutty, exciting and intense BUT the Emira seems better around the road, more secure, less skittish. Emira is better made, more comfy and has modern tech. I am having more fun in the Emira then I thought I would due to the feedback and bends. Ade
Awesome review! A could of questions: 1. How would you compare this to a Porsche Cayman GTS 4.0 and which one would you prefer and why? Can you do a comparison video for these two cars? 2. Could you do a video comparing the driving dynamics of this and the Toyota GR86? 3. Have you scraped the front lip yet? 😅 Looking forward to more videos!
Great idea. I will try and get one out. That and the F-Type are its biggest rivals. Perhaps even a base 911 is a rival. I have driven a GTS. Unemotionally, a 'better' car but the Emira has the character and smashed it on looks. Either way, can't go wrong. Ade
the cup holders and stick shift - my 04 BMW X3 has a single cupholder that when in use, causes the same frustrations with reaching the shifter. I'll assume you'll do like I did with the X3: adapt to it.
Sport suspension = more rattles down the road. Also touring suspension makes winter driving bearable, if you must traverse some frozen patches. And if I had a car like that I would want to drive it all year long.
I have no issues at all with the sports suspension. it is awesome, and more compliant than my Ferrari or C63. Turn in and grip is extraordinary. In reality, both setups are brilliant and the tyre choice might make the most difference. Ade
Cracking video as always Ade, please keep them coming. Love your view points, especially that you make it really clear, its "your" view point and not gospel and everyone else is wrong. Would you consider getting the Emira on a dyno, another myth you can bust or set the record right!? I recall your vid from Goodwood where you got Matt saying they were 416bhp.
Yeah, clearly it is nearer 400. To be fair to Matt, he was likely right at the time or it was certainly a strong indication of what he thought it would be. We all did really, though we hoped for 430. Still, the car seems spot on. The Exige with 410 was all over the place. Fine on track but a bloody handful on the road. I doubt it will see a dyno unless I can wangle an exhaust sponsor... ummmmm.😄👍 Ade
Cool - hopefully you will have a great summer running it in and then some nice trips. Probably get the car back early next week, they are doing inside and out! The video about it all will be a coupe of days after that, so late next week probably. Based on the phone call about the damage on the car this is definitely needed! More details to come! Ade
Thanks. Have now run it in! Up to 1250 miles or so but the car is off the road for 3 weeks: PPF, Ceramic coating and an exhaust! Videos on those coming soon! Ade
Great vid! I read that the sports suspension and the touring suspension are actually both the same parts and components, just set up differently. Do you know if this is true?
I have no idea! The springs must be the same height as the ride height is the same. There is certainly a noticeable difference but I don't know how they actually achieved it. I assume the other bits are different as there is no talk about the possibility of modifying them. Ade
No, not at all as you really don't think about the interior once you are in the car. There is plenty of glass and light to make it feel fairly airy for such a low car. Ade
True. It is indeed based on a Camry engine. It is tried and tested in Lotus cars before it. it is disappointing that Lotus restricted the Rev Limit to just 6800rpm as the car starts to sound amazing up there. Still, the car is plenty fast enough. Ade
I have great respect for all. My short version of the answer is that the car is AMAZING, whatever the configuration, and whatever config you believe it right for you will actually be the right choice. You cannot go wrong. The longer answer is: AMG version - bit quicker and more fun overall. Need to get a test drive in the AMG 45 to see if you like how the DCT and delivery feels for you. Aut0 - If the car is a daily and you encounter traffic and still want some weekend joy then this makes a lot of sense. it will be rarer too, by far, so might be a good buy as it happens. Manual - Simply more engaging. The only choice if you want a full experience but will be the slowest of the lot. Ade
All this Emiras content is great but this is making me feel even worse as mine does not arrive until 2024. Hopefully I will get a cancellation. Yellow, black pack, black wheels no privacy, sports suspension.
Cool. A popular spec. It does look really good in yellow and the black pack works best with that colour. It is worth the wait. I understand your pain. My wait was 21 months! Ade
Ah cool. I have used Red Stuff before and they were good. I am not too bothered as I have dark wheels. They have been ceramic coated today so hopefully very easy to keep looking new. I am a lazy git. I would have gone for silver wheels. 😁 Ade
I either use the main screen or use a bracket on the window. The cupholders in the car are not really good for anything other than a small Costa or Starbucks cup.
Yes , maybe is true that , but clearly lotus must sell cars , if not … only pain and die A lot of people think like you but then at the moment of truth, with the money ready , the evora is not the option
Yeah, those looking for lightness, power and rawness need to look elsewhere. Everyone else will be delighted with the Emira. Best is have both for sure! Ade
2 things for you, the Emira is actually slightly lighter than an Evora GT. And you obviously don't have both, as an Evora GT is a US only spec of Evora, and not a single Emira in US spec has been delivered yet.
To my opinion, the Evora is the more beautiful car too. The Emira looks better in pictures then in real life. While the Evora is a stunner in real life but pictures do not do it justice. I drove an Evora S for 9 years but I have little interest in the Emira. To me there is something wrong with the proportions. By making the car wider, to me, they messed up the proportions and made the car look smaller than the Evora. Strange...
I did find when I took the Emira for a test drive, that the numbers cut into the gear know did fell sharp.!!! Its Chinese company so you would have thought the child lab would have done a better job 🤨
Mad ugly.. You must be in a minority of one! The simple solution for you, is to drop the suspension. Not hard or expensive to do. Probably add in a one inch spacer whilst there. I would consider all that if I know the handling was not compromised at all as I do agree it would look ever better.
Lovely car but gutted that your “myths” were my reality’s. The seats are uncomfortable and just don’t feel right from the get go. The gear change is the worst I’ve experienced and made worse by the heavy clutch. Everything else is great!
Ah interesting. I guess the seat is very subjective as we are all built different. I have the heat on maximum even in the summer to help my back but I find it find ergonomically, which is strange for me! Likewise I love the gear change. You need to come and try my old Porsche and integrale. I wonder if your throw and box is slightly out. Maybe they are not all built the same or maybe it is just a case of being used to the way other cars do it. I don't even think about it. Hope, overall though, you actually really enjoy the car. Just got better and better for me.

Ade
Lovely car dude. Keep them coming. Best Emira content on youtube.
Thanks, appreciate it. I am trying. More to come.
Ade
Banging tune you are listening too!
Ha. yeahh. I am was always well into Trance music. Euphoria albums, Ibiza, Ayia Napa... great days 😄
Ade
Is the Emira nutty enough to forego getting an Exige also?
No. The Exige is far more raw, nutty, exciting and intense BUT the Emira seems better around the road, more secure, less skittish. Emira is better made, more comfy and has modern tech. I am having more fun in the Emira then I thought I would due to the feedback and bends.
Ade
You do make me laugh. You should be on TV. I wouldn't worry about the brakes if they are still fairly smooth.
Ha. Thanks. My face is better for radio really!

Awesome review! A could of questions:
1. How would you compare this to a Porsche Cayman GTS 4.0 and which one would you prefer and why? Can you do a comparison video for these two cars?
2. Could you do a video comparing the driving dynamics of this and the Toyota GR86?
3. Have you scraped the front lip yet? 😅
Looking forward to more videos!
Great idea. I will try and get one out. That and the F-Type are its biggest rivals. Perhaps even a base 911 is a rival.
I have driven a GTS. Unemotionally, a 'better' car but the Emira has the character and smashed it on looks. Either way, can't go wrong.
Ade
Aside from looks -- what makes you say the GTS is a better car? Does the Emira seem more precise and raw?
the cup holders and stick shift - my 04 BMW X3 has a single cupholder that when in use, causes the same frustrations with reaching the shifter. I'll assume you'll do like I did with the X3: adapt to it.
Ha. I will have to. I rarely drink in a car so it will actually be a non-issue for me personally. I was mostly pointing it out to others.
I really like your way of making reviews and this one was not exception. Take care .👌👌🙌🙌
Thanks for the kind words. More to come!

Thanks. Much appreciated.

I doubt it will see a dyno unless I can wangle an exhaust sponsor... ummmmm.😄👍
Ade
Hi Ade, Larini and Tbular are both looking for a customer Emira to use to fabricate an exhaust - approx 2 weeks and you get a full system for free!!!
@@andrewshaw6339 Thanks, I will give them a shout if not too late.
Great video and just subscribed, hopefully getting mine in June, also red, can’t wait, keep the info coming, like to hear what you think of the ppf 👍👍
Cool - hopefully you will have a great summer running it in and then some nice trips.
Probably get the car back early next week, they are doing inside and out!
The video about it all will be a coupe of days after that, so late next week probably.
Based on the phone call about the damage on the car this is definitely needed! More details to come!
Ade
Great video as the norm keep up the great work stay safe and NJOY.. whoop whoop not long now 400miles to go keep us informed all the best🤘
Thanks.
Have now run it in! Up to 1250 miles or so but the car is off the road for 3 weeks: PPF, Ceramic coating and an exhaust! Videos on those coming soon!

@@RevMonkey thanks for the update cant wait for your next journey with this stunning machine. Stay safe and NJOY🤘
Need some more bike content Ade. Missing your screaming my friend.
I do have two to upload and will be doing more rides for sure!
Ade
Ade
That was me on another account!
Ade
Great taste in cars and music.
Ha,. thanks! I do like a bit of trance 🕺
Do you find the interior a bit dark and claustrophobic with it all being black?
No, not at all as you really don't think about the interior once you are in the car. There is plenty of glass and light to make it feel fairly airy for such a low car.
Ade
It's a Toyota Camry motor. Why would rev
ving it to6500 rpms ruin it?
True. It is indeed based on a Camry engine. It is tried and tested in Lotus cars before it.
it is disappointing that Lotus restricted the Rev Limit to just 6800rpm as the car starts to sound amazing up there.
Still, the car is plenty fast enough.
Ade
Lol. I hate a hole at back of a gear stick. Same as my Elise
Ha. I didn;t realise it was on other models!!
Such a crappy thing to have left like that.
Oh well. Not the end of the world! 😀

@@RevMonkey yeah very minor, but puts me off. OCD. Lol
@@darrenporter1850 Ha, Yeah. go to Wickes and get some metal filler! 😁
What do you think of the AMG version? Is the auto bollocks or worth having?
I have great respect for all.
My short version of the answer is that the car is AMAZING, whatever the configuration, and whatever config you believe it right for you will actually be the right choice. You cannot go wrong.
The longer answer is:
AMG version - bit quicker and more fun overall.
Ade
@@RevMonkey thanks, great reply, need to test drive that a45s

I don't think anybody will have more than me! 😁
PPF/Ceramic and an exhaust coming soon.
Ade
That steering wheel does look mad to be fair. If it is also uncomfortable then you have to wonder what Lotus were playing at.
Well it feels nice! 🤣
That’s a Volvo part I guess
@@MrPagnu I don't know for sure. Volvo parts would almost certainly be the switchgear and screens.

Ha, Thanks👍
....get some AKEBONO Brake Pads and you'll have NO brake dust issues.......They don't squeal and they work GREAT..... AND they last FOREVER...........
Ah cool. I have used Red Stuff before and they were good. I am not too bothered as I have dark wheels. They have been ceramic coated today so hopefully very easy to keep looking new.
I am a lazy git. I would have gone for silver wheels. 😁
Ade
Special😍
I have to agree!
Beautiful Car!!
Agreed! Remarkable design.
Red bull ain't as big as your Fold and the Fold isn't even fully inside the cup holder
I either use the main screen or use a bracket on the window. The cupholders in the car are not really good for anything other than a small Costa or Starbucks cup.
I prefer the Evora GT, lighter and more powerful...more analog too. I have both. Emira is nice looking but a water down Evora.
Yes , maybe is true that , but clearly lotus must sell cars , if not … only pain and die
A lot of people think like you but then at the moment of truth, with the money ready , the evora is not the option
Strange...
Very good review. I'm not into manual gearbox but this one seems very fine. I'm waiting for the i4 with dual clutch release before ordering mine 😁
I did find when I took the Emira for a test drive, that the numbers cut into the gear know did fell sharp.!!! Its Chinese company so you would have thought the child lab would have done a better job 🤨
Yes, exactly. A strange oversight. Not the end of the world but you do notice it.
Ade
No worries; it will smoothen out over time and or really grip the driving gloves for a while!
Very nice😋👏
Thanks for liking
Why is the car so high? To much wheel gap. That's mad ugly brah.
Thank you, was interesting to hear your experience ᕦʕ ⊙ ◡ ⊙ ʔᕤ
Car is getting better and better the more I drive it. Getting an aftermarket exhaust sorted out for it at present.

It will look epic in white. It will really boost the curves. I;d try it with some green stripes after a while 😄
Grow bigger hands man up
Ha. Not sure that is medically possible yet. 😁
Think you should sell it and buy a girls car: gear stick hurts your hand, can't shut a boot , and the steering wheel is too big WTF
Haha. I did say I was struggling to find fault with it. Overall I love the steering wheel with the feel of it.
Still, it is a Lotus and to get this near to perfect is amazing.
I was trying to think of a girl's car I have had and the only thing that comes to mind back in the 90s was a Mazda/Miata MX5. It was the wife's car but I mostly drove it. Brilliant fun. 😀
