Intake Battle: MST Performance VS. SXTH Element | Choose Your Side

  • I decided a quick intake battle is what you need. So, I compared the MST Performance, SXTH Element intake, and an OEM GR Corolla factory intake.
    -
    Really it's a discussion about the merits of each intake, their design decisions, performance, build quality, install details, sound test, and addressing the CEL issue almost all GR Corolla aftermarket intakes have.
    -
    This is an informative video, rather than an install and test, but a good one. If you have ever wondered how the MST Performance intake was against the SXTH Element intake, this is your video. And if you wanted to see both those intakes alongside the OPEM factory intake, well... I got that too! And if you wanted to HEAR how each sounded... I threw that in too!
    Sit back and enjoy!

    I've seen a few people removing the acrylic cover for the SXTH intake to get more of those "whooshes". I installed my SXTH a couple weeks back and am very happy with it so far!
    Also: GIMME DAT TURBO INLET PIPE!!! Been looking at the Forge Turbo Inlet Pipe and trying to come up with a way to modify it for the SXTH intake; glad to see SXTH is just gonna make one for us! 🤘
    Keep up the excellent videos, dude; always appreciate your input and rundowns!

      Yeah, I'm excited for SXTH Element to produce that turbo inlet piece, it's something I am interested in!
      My friend who has the SXTH Element intake, takes that cover off as well to hear the sounds more.

      I'm soon to shoot another project, that'll involve me turning this MST Intake into a bit of an OEM+ intake using the stock airbox.
      And you definitely have some nice mods on the way, I haven't made my finally decision on the exhaust and I will also soon get a downpipe.

    Good video and comparison. I’ve been loving my MST system for the past couple months, with no CEL. Only issue I have is with water getting into the intake box through my CE hood vent. Reached out to MST and they are working on a remedy/full box. Other than that, this is by far my favorite system out right now. I do have the Eventuri system as well, but I’m holding off on installing until the legit CEL fix is out. Cheers.

      First... I love your channel and content! As for the MST V2 I love the design, especially from the standpoint of utilizing the airflow that comes through the grille, and into the shroud they designed. I think its a genius design.
      If you are looking for more owners to test it out, I would love to be considered and to shoot content around it compared to the current MST V1 intake and some other owners I know running different setups.

    I have the eventuri intake and sixth element pcv fix kit. I’m from the PNW. I never had any issues for about a month until yesterday. It started to get really cold here and that’s when a CEL popped. It was about 19 degrees here in Seattle.
    Just disconnected the battery for 5 minutes and was good since then. Someone mentioned that putting the car in expert mode disabled every safety feature including the sensor for the vacuum line.

    • @CarQuicks
      @CarQuicks  6 месяцев назад

      My theory is similar to what you stated, extremely cold air maybe playing a factory, but overall, the entire experience for me has been positive with MST.
      I LOVE how the Eventuri intake looks, I just haven't decided if I want to send the increase for it, if I want carbon fiber under the hood.
      It's still an amazing piece of equipment.

    My biggest issue with aftermarket intakes for my GRC is that all the tuners who worked with the GR Yaris and now the GRC have found that the stock ecu is really sensitive to air temp change from the heat soak and it has a really conservative tune to protect the car. So an intake without a stand alone ecu and tune will only give you sound and more consistent air temp. The videos i’ve seen of dyno runs with an intake change only really shows a tiny boost in torque and more consistent dyno run power numbers and air temps. Motive Video has a way more in depth series about power gains and power mods with the G16E-GTS engine.

    • @CarQuicks
      @CarQuicks  6 месяцев назад

      You are right, my and friend are actually going to make a change back to the stock airbox, to avoid any potential CEL. However, what you said is true... the ECU on these cars is sensitive and constantly re-learning/adjusting... hence why a lot of the overseas companies have gone standalone. For the USA we are only 1 year in on the platform, though I have been looking further and further into what the people in the UK and Australia have been doing to understand better where we should go with the GR Corolla.

      Open face intake sounds nicer however, if you own a circuit edition, rain will enter the hood vent and water drips onto the filter.

  • @Duuhvis
    @Duuhvis 5 месяцев назад +1

    I honestly think the MST is the best sounding. I have no idea if it matters that it’s open. But I can say it sounds the best. Definitely noticed some more torque. At least if you have a core style hood I prefer the MST

    • @CarQuicks
      @CarQuicks  5 месяцев назад

      I do believe the open element plays a large part to the sounds we hear on the MST intake, and that's also why I love it!

  • @Midship00
    @Midship00 6 месяцев назад +1

    I initially wanted MST but once I started shopping around the SXTH was (IMO) a better quality, more complete kit AND it was cheaper. I do run mine without that cover on it though for more noise. I didn’t know that secondary pipe was baffled though.. that’s good to know

    • @CarQuicks
      @CarQuicks  6 месяцев назад

      Yeah, overall, I can agree that SXTH Element has a more complete kit, especially at a cheaper price I cannot knock anyone going that route.
      When they release their turbo inlet pipe, it'll be great to hear and see the complete system.

  • @cflip2x
    @cflip2x 5 месяцев назад +1

    MST was going to be my choice when I fist heard the comparison on the Yaris. Though now that I have the SXTH I did notice that when washing the car the drain for the CE hoods the MST might get a little wet. Maybe if I was still out in NJ with all the rain I would be a little more worried. The water still drains onto the SXTH but with it covered it still gets wet but at least the cover helps might consider putting a little weather stripping and some thread locker for the SXTH

    • @CarQuicks
      @CarQuicks  5 месяцев назад

      I've seen a few owners mention the same thing, but I think it might be more an issue if you pointed a pressure washer to your vents for extended periods of time. However, you really cannot go wrong with SXTH Element, another solid product form them and an excellent intake!

      I didn't get a CEL personally, but I do know of a few people who did, both with the MST and SXTH.

    $500+ for a few extra hp is pointless. Just upgrade filter in the stock air box and use money for more important mods like intercooler and oil cooler or exhaust mods.

    • @CarQuicks
      @CarQuicks  4 месяца назад +1

      Great mods for you as well. Some of these modifications are strictly an experience mod, the same way you only gain but so much on an exhaust for the GR Corolla, the same is for an intake. The sound is what most are after.
      But your process is also another path someone can take.
